Wine and Dine 2015

We have already decided on our costumes! I'm going to be a beer maid and DH will wear "lederhosen" that we craft somehow. I also did not really get the sewing gene. DH's sewing skills are probably better than mine! But hopefully they will turn out cute and be a nod to our shared German heritage and the German pavilion at WS.

Thanks John! I just want to stay out of the last corral because the second to last was bogged down enough. I am going to try to get to the front of whatever corral I'm in though this time around. I did learn some things from Princess. I had no fears of being swept then and I'm not worried about that now, but want to have time to enjoy the race. Part of the problem is not running Disney for time and originally we weren't planning on W&D till next year, but DH is retiring from the military so thought this year would be better.

The biggest issue is DH. He runs around a 10 min mile. I think he'll be so frustrated in the last corral and I don't really want to drop back to it, so do I let him run it out and catch up to me, which should be hard with his 10mm vs. my 13mm, but I know how bogged down it can be. Or do I insist that he runs a 10K prior if we can find one within a couple hours. (There are none here before the Aug. deadline.)

Love that costume idea! Goes with the Wine and Dine theme very well :)

Question for you and anyone else that has done a previous Disney race - I know it varies based on which corral you are in.. but how long is the wait typically for characters? I mean are we talking 5-10 min or 20 min? Seems like people would snap a quick photo and keep moving, right? Just curious.. Thanks :)

@lovingeire that's exactly what I was thinking of wearing! I also saw a Mary Poppins one that I loved and I did get the sewing gene so I could probably make SOMETHING I just can't decide which one I want!

I made my entire costume for Princess (Anna from Frozen) and it stressed me out a little bit, so I'm cheating a bit this time around. I'm going as Cheshire Cat - still making the sparkle skirt this time around, as well as ears, but I purchased the Cheshire Cat shirt from Raw Threads.

Does anyone know when the MVMCP tickets go on sale?
All Disney has said so far is "April" so soon! Keep an eye on the WDW website.

I'm trying to decide if I should just book through rD now or wait. What are the chances that the moderates would sell out completely if I wait?
It really depends on how much chance you're willing to take: if you really want to be at a particular resort, I'd book it now and look for better rates at it down the road. If you really need to be at an official Host resort, I'd book it now and check later for discounts. For a number of reasons, I waited until only a few weeks out last year and by then there really wasn't anything onsite in my price range: the discounted rates were only applying to rooms like suites or Concierge level. I was fine because I'm semi-local, have a car and am willing to go offsite... I'd have been in a pickle otherwise.

Does anyone have corral info?

How many are there, how much time apart are they?
Someone already posted a link to last year's corrals, but in case it was missed: http://as1.wdpromedia.com/media/rundisney/pdf/wine-dine/2014/2014CorralAssignmentsHalfMarathon-2.pdf

They can change eveyr year, so don't take this as gospel, but it gives an idea, anyway. The way they take off is at shorter intervals for the first few corrals - say 2-3 mins - and longer intervals for later corrals - 5-6 mins between.

I understand it would be worthwhile to see if cheaper rates come out later on this summer, right?
::yes:: Absolutely!

Okay, I am registering for a 10K that runs in 2 weeks to get a time. There aren't many 10Ks around where I live (this one is an hour away) and once it gets hot I WILL NOT want to run in the humidity, lol! So if a race says it has a USATF Course Certification, that works for rD, correct? I don't know that I will even do very well, just hoping to have something to submit to get out of the last corral.

And I am thinking of dressing like Mrs. Incredible! :)

Depending on the character, it can get pretty long. I don't have the patience for anything over 10 minutes. For the Enchanted 10K I waited 4 minutes for Jiminy Cricket. For the Half, I waited 2/3 minutes each for Woody and Buzz. I had NO WAIT for Mickey at the finish line of the half. I guess most people don't want to stop 50 feet away from the finish.

May I say a little something about corrals and PoT, since the subject has come up? The BEST corral is one that matches your pace, whether that's way up front with the elites or way in the back with the party corrals. (FTR I say this as a solidly mid- to back-of-the-pack runner - we have lots of fun back there!) I've been placed in all sorts of rD corrals over the years and I promise - you can have fun in any of them. But your race experience will be a lot more comfortable and a lot less frustrating if you're running with a crowd that's going about the same speed as you. Being in a corral much faster than me, I spent way too much time worrying about being "in the way" and feeling like I needed to go faster than I knew was right for me. Being in a corral much slower than me was hard because I couldn't ever hit my stride and get into a good groove. Being in a corral that matched my pace? Best rD race experience ever! Sure it was still crowded and there were still some folks moving faster and some moving slower than me, but overall it felt like I was in the sweet spot and could run at my best, even with picture stops.

So please - try not to stress about corral letters or times. My suggestion is to train well, give your PoT races your best effort, then enjoy the fruits of your labor on race night! party:

So I'm laughing at the thought of your BF dressed as a yeti chasing you down the course! Could make for really cute pictures!

ETA: I waited forever for Mickey at the 5K, but he went on a break right after we got there. I waited about 5 minutes for Goofy at the end of the 10K. I would like to stop for more characters during W&D though.

And the line for royal Minnie at the Enchanted 10K had to have been 30-60 minutes. It was so long!

I wish I had the sewing gene! I can't wait to see what you come up with! If you do the German theme we'll all have to get a picture together sometime!

Most of my "costumes" are really just matching my running gear to a characters colors, if you will. I've been a little nervous about creating a full on costume, but if I do it right it should still be more than comfortable to wear. I just usually have no motivation. Right now I'm still trying to come up with something for the Tink 10K and Half in May and time will run out before I know it. Right now I'm still trying to debate between doing something actually Tink themed, or if I want to do the costumes I've been talking about for years: the version of Anne Bonny and Mary Read from Pirates of the Caribbean attraction.

USATF is exactly what you want! I just got SO excited. After you said that, I went back to the website and was looking around and found a different page that let me search for all certified 10k's in Ohio (way more than I realized, btw). When I asked my planned 10k if they were certified she told me it was certified years ago by Jim ___...which didn't feel reassuring! It felt more like a random guy named Jim ran the course and timed it lol. BUT, this link tells me Jimmy boy is actually with USATF so I am all set!

Here is the link in case anyone else was like me and clicked the wrong search page:

You guys, I found a 10K to do in May!!!!! And it's local to our little city! I sent DH the link and said I really think we should run this for POT. You'll be so frustrated in the back corral. He said, "fine, I'll run it." I told him he can thank me later! I'm so excited! It's $70 I don't really want to spend when we're paying off our May Disney trip, but I think it will make for a happier W&D.

@PrincessV I totally agree! I was so frustrated at the 10K because I couldn't run at all for at least a mile, which definitely had an impact on my time. I managed to not be too far off my normal time with only one photo stop, and I wasn't running for time, but I want to be able to run my intervals and stop to enjoy pictures and such more. I think that's why I'm excited I found a local race I can go all out with to use as PoT because I think it will get me into a corral more in line with my abilities. And it will for sure keep DH out of the last corral which he does not belong in.

I am about the same. I usually buy new running gear with colors resembling a character or fitting a race theme. For TOT I had a neon green top and space print leggings, for princess I wore all pink with lululemon running pants that had a print resembling the stained glass windows with the rose in beauty and the beast. For the 5k I did the tutu and all of that, I just don't think I could go all out for the half. If I am uncomfortable it is all I will be able to think about! For W&D maybe I will do like a purple top and green leggings...I have Ariel red hair :) (and it is not natural in the least!)

Lol, that is what I used to find my race! And I just checked the results from last years race and I don't think I will be the last one to finish, lol!

LOLOL Didn't think of that but now I'm picturing it and it could be really funny!!!

Yay!!!! Glad you found a local one and now you don't have to stress about the corral placement!
I've found a few to do near us but haven't decided yet. One is on West Point which is all hills so that one will probably be voted out for me! lol. BF may do it since he works on post and it would be convenient for him!

I just searched again with the link @AThrillingChase posted and the 10K in 2 weeks is the only 10K or longer race within a 2 hour drive of me before the POT deadline! So I went ahead and registered online. Guess I'm not the only one who doesn't want to run in Arkansas summer heat/humidity!

Nope! I am from Arkansas too and most of the races in NW Arkansas are done by May!

I'm in Mississippi so I can totally relate. I was trying to do a half marathon every month this year but can't find anything for June, July, August because it's just too dang hot in the summer.

I am in South Central, I think, lol.

I think I will be running on the treadmill at work a lot this summer!
