I put an inquiry out on Windsor Hills website... I indicated that the home needed to be pet friendly has I have a small dog (8lbs) that I need to take with me... I got several responses but one told me that Windsor Hills only allows owners to bring their pets & that it is commonly reported & that WE could get fined etc...

I didn't even consider this to be an issue.. is it true? Are there any other communities like this?

Hi!
I would of thought it would be the owner who accepted your booking that would be fined, and not you.
Many villa owners choose not to have pets in their home.Infact,my Insurance has a clause stating that I will not allow pets. Its not necessarily a H.O.A ruling.

Hope you find somewhere,

Lynn

Are you telling that the owner is allowed to bring a pet and you don't? How weird! I would smuggle the pet inside the apartment! But if you don't want a problem, then cancel that reservation and get a good hotel that allows pets in it. :badpc:

The trouble with smuggling your pet in is you may end up not only losing your security deposit but being asked to pay extra for the cleaning the owner may have to have done as well so its a bit of a risk .

it is possible that the owner who told you this was mis-informed, or just a curmudgeon who doesn't like pets on property ;(.

If you have a rental agreement with another owner, *and* that owner has a pet-friendly property, then that owner should know the score. You could mention to the owner you are considering booking with what the curmudgeon told you. If he/she is on top of it, they'll check the HOA agreement to be sure.

That's what I'm not sure about... I don't have any rental agreement yet.. trying to find the right place is becoming more difficult than I thought! The responses I did receive from other owners seemed very "canned"... not even sure that they read that I needed them to allow pets... several of them listed their websites where low & behold, they indicate no pets allowed!

My experience with windsorhillsrent was that about half the owners actually read what I was looking for, and the other half just responed to my message without reading it.

Exchange direct email with one or two promising owners. However, there are at least a couple of listings on VRBO that specify pet-friendly places in WH, so I'm thinking you have a mis-informed owner.

We rented at Indian Creek through the owner. Their website said no pets, but I asked about bringing a cat. They charged us an extra refundable security deposit, but we were good to go. There are plenty of homes to rent, you just have to find the right one. It took me alot of surfing and emailing to find the right size house we needed, location, and pets. It is doable. Good luck.

also like someone said
celebration world resort
embassy suites in lake buena vista and buenta vista suites and universal hotels
RPR HRH and PBR
but if the owner said they will get it in writing I am taking my 3 lb dog there

I just received another response to my inquiry telling me that they can't consider my request because Windsor Hills does not allow pets... the owners that accept them must be breaking the rules...
Doesn't matter either way, a place that won't take pets is not the place for me!! I'm currently looking on VRBO.com.

just checked the web site you can get a place at windsor palms 1 mile from windsor hills their sister resort saw emerald island also hat's a nice place also

Windsor Hills does in fact have HOA Bylaws that prohibit pets...for the condo owners. The townhome and single family homeowners are allowed to have pets if they so choose..BUT..when the pet is outside on the resort grounds it is not allowed in any common areas whatsoever...or any property not belonging to the home.

That being said..most homeowners do not allow pets in vacation rentals..but some still do..your choices will just be more limited is all. Some in WH EI and WP will allow pets.

Personally, we do not, there's just too much risk for us to do so and our place is way too expensive...as much as everyone is going to tell you THEIR pet won't pee on your place the reality is a whole lot different. Even all of our family members who have dogs say they would never allow one in their rental place either...

You can go on vrbo though and select "pet friendly" accomodations within certain resorts though. Out of all 60 properties our MC manages only 1 allows pets...and it's a single family home with a pool in Emerald Island.
