Windows XP question re available system resources

Upgraded to XP Home Edition from Me yesterday and am still stumbling my way around the new operating system.

Where do I find available system resources? On Me it was start - settings - control panel - system - performance tab. I've found system in the control panel on XP but there is no performance tab and it doesn't show available resources that I can find.

Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Information.

Takes a little getting used to, but XP will grow on you and you'll love it, especailly its stability, and, good resource management manners. Good luck.

Thanks, Dan! Yes, this will definitely take some getting use to.

Okay, so XP doesn't show the available percentage of system resources? So would you calculate it by dividing the available virtual memory by the total virtual memory? Or do you use the physical memory?

I don't know for sure if it's the same as in XP Pro (I migrated from 2000 pro to mandrake Linux 9.1 to XP Pro, completely skipping XP home) but alt-ctrl-del once and click on the performance tab... at least that's how it is in pro

You can also right click on the task bar and bring up the "Task Manager" and then select the "Performance" tab.

Yes, that's it! Gee, never would have thought control-alt-delete. That's what I use to have to do in Me when I froze up - the ol' 3-finger salute. And I had to do it a LOT!

I think I'm really going to like XP once I figure out how to navigate it a little better.

That Bill guy with MS sure gave us a lot of ways to get to the same place, LOL.

You gotta wonder which rocket scientist at Microsoft decided to use the same three finger salute that reboots Windows 95/98 to get the attention of the O/S in WIndows NT/XP/2000. It's not like there weren't other combinations available.

Ya know I bet they were like "well, in windows 95 if it freezes up you have to press alt-ctrl-del to reboot, but let's mess with all those supposed pro computer people and make it alt-ctrl-del to access anything in windows NT!"

Personally I think it's a sign of their product.....
