Hello All,

I was rather surprised when I check into the studio yesterday and found out that our studio had no windows in the front! Only the back door to the patio/deck.

I thought this was rather strange....is there many studios at OKW that have no windows???

Just Curious...

My very first trip as a DVC member, I had the same thing happen. It was January 1, 2002 and we were excited to stay as DVC members. When we went into the room I thought that it was normal not to have a window. I remeber thinking that this DVC thing is not much of anything. The next month I returned and had a studio with a window, it made all the difference in the world. The studio is the same in every other way except sunlight!

Yep,
Second floor I believe, on the right hand side of the building if you were facing it from the front. You have a view of the pond from your balcony. It was also a lockoff. I'm pretty close?

I'm not sure how many are layed out this way.

But, isn't this the case with every other WDW DVC resort or and/or luxury resort? They would only have the patio/balcony doors as the "window". The other wall would have the door to the hallway.

Pam, your question may have been somewhat rhetorical, but yes all the other DVC resorts at WDW would have entry doors coming off a corridor. So the windows are all at the back of the units.

So does anyone know how common this is at OKW? Maybe this is the only one and these people had the misfortune to get it. I know that over at VWL there is exactly one studio without a balcony and I met the people who were unfortunate enough to get it (at least they were told there was only that one).

We have been members for 10 years and have stayed in the studios lots of times, I have never had a studio without a front window! I will make sure the next time we check in if the unit we have has a window or not! I hope someone can answer the question as to how many of these there are!

I'm not sure but it might be that the units without front windows are the ones that are in the center of the buildings. I don't recall seeing any windows as you walk along the front balcony areas. The ones with windows would be on the ends of the buildings.

I haven't stayed in the studios very often but I do recall being in one without a front window one Christmas. I don't see it as a problem. In fact, it's kind of nice not to have to worry about passerbys going by the windows while you are sleeping, etc.

Granny, I wasn't 100% sure so I appreciate the back-up.

This is good to know, I never knew there were OKW studios without front windows. I do not think I would like that at all, although the other DVC studios do not have front windows, in the other studios you enter into the vestibule then you go into kitchen and bath area and then the main part of the studio, at OKW you enter right into the bedroom and the windows are right next to one of the beds if that was a wall instead of windows, I would feel very closed in.

Well I tried to do a bit of looking around today and there are six studios (2 on each floor in the corners that do not have windows in the front.

It really isn't too much of an issue...but it does have a real different look. It is a blank wall next to the bed. (Not even a picture on it!!) So it does feel a bet boxed in for Old Key West. My point was NOT to compare it to any other resort only to comparable studios at OKW.

It does have a wonderful view of the pond and golf course in the back which is a plus!!

The first time I noticed a missing window was when I went to put up Christmas lights around the window....then I realized "oh something is different". ;) I hadn't thought about "why" this would be until you posted. IMHO, which I think is also along your lines, it's not a problem but is different.
