What do you have at the top, between the cabinets?

Need ideas.

Anyone have any pictures, or links to ideas, styles, etc?

I didn't have a view I really liked out the window over my kitchen sink, so....I designed a stained glass window that I really love and hung it.:thumbsup2

I have nothing. I framed the window in and don't have a curtain or anything up there and probably won't. :) In my old house, I had a clock.

Oh, but I have a good view!

That sounds nice. Does it cover the whole window, or just the top part?

We are renovating. Since we moved in we've had a piece of "scrolled wood" (for lack of a better term) there. Very 70's. Never really noticed it much before but would like to figure out what to do with that space now.

I did buy a tiffany type light (which looks something like stained glass) for over the table. I was thinking maybe of leaving it open and hanging a similar type light there, maybe like the style you'd hang above a mirror, or a small pendant light. :confused3

Sounds pretty!

i love the kitchen sink at beaches and cream. is that what you all are talking about. never noticed any window above it though.

I actually have 3 windows over my sink area. I chose bright jewel colors and designed a Victorian window for all 3. House is Victorian so stained glass works in beautifully. And yes, entire windows are covered but I used "cathedral" glass so that plenty of light shines in.

Could you not use cloth in place of the scrolled wood? For instance, have a valance made (choosing gorgeous fabric) for a bit of color and perhaps make placemats or cover seat cushions to match? Would give a nice decorator look.

That's a possibility, too. :thumbsup2

My view is ok. A wooden swingset and a nice tree.

I was thinking about a clock, but it would have to be a pretty small one (and one that would cover up the scrolling  ).

Pea-N-Me...I'd responded to an above post of yours and my remarks didn't show up. :confused3

Anway, what I'd "tried" to say was this: I have 3 windows over my kitchen sink and designed Victorian style windows for them all. I chose bright jewel colors in "cathedral" glass as plenty of light shines through it. And yes, the entire windows are covered.

Perhaps you could replace the "scrolled wood" with a cloth valance. Choose some gorgeous fabric and put back where the wood was removed. Also, make placemats or cover seat cushions out of the same fabric for a real decorator look. Without seeing the actual area you're speaking of, it's really hard to come up with a working plan.

ETA: I suddenly don't think you're talking about covering "glass windows" over the sink are you? Okay, I have a place that I needed to "bridge" 2 areas together up near the ceiling. I hung a huge pot of ivy and let it spill out and hang down over the area. Looks better than it sounds.

Actually, fabric would probably be a possibility. I'd just have to move it out even with the cabinet fronts as opposed to over the window directly. I do have a nice, simple valance style top that I'm using.

I was just wondering what others do with this type of space. It's not something I've ever even thought of until today (despite all the HGTV type shows and magazines I've seen). I was more focused on everything else.

This picture shows an example of a lamp over the table with a matching pendant lamp over the sink. So I guess it wouldn't be unusual.

Excuse me, I thought you wanted to know what type of window dressings we had.

There is a recessed light above my kitchen sink.

I like that pendant light look you've linked. I have a recessed light above mine and pendants over my island. If I would have done a pendant light there also, it would have been "too much". My window is framed in similar to the picture so it is a lot like mine w/o the pendant light. Nothing connects my cabinets or anything. It is just open.

I looked - they have a small pendant light that matches the light I bought for over my table. I think it might look nice with no wood at all (ie open), a nice valance, and the pendant light hanging down. I just want to be sure before I order it as it's a little pricey.

Any other ideas or pictures?

We have a corner window above our corner sink. We have a light hanging there...

Corner or not, I like the light option the most. FWIW, I really like keeping JUST that light on if I am only doing dishes, and it's nice in the evening. :thumbsup2

That's a great look, you have a beautful kitchen. :thumbsup2 Thanks for posting.

I have a full wall granite backsplash (my husband works with granite for a living!!). Our window starts about 20" above the sink and has a ledge that I put plants on. (and Im always clearing off the pens, business cards, coins etc..that my husband throws on there!)

Above the window I have a light fixture that comes out from the wall about 6" and has 2..upside down tulip kind of things...to shine over the sink.

Lucky you! Sounds nice!

I was thinking about that, like something you'd put over a mirror, right? I don't have enough room. The size is basically just the size of the window with enough room for just a curtain rod at the top. There would be no side wall to screw it into, just the ceiling which I could hang the pendant from.
