I just received this press release from Walt Disney Studios. A very interesting contest, and I know a lot of people here (including myself) would be interested. Wow, a Private Jungle Cruise led by John Lasseter himself - that would be cool!

Win a trip for 4 to the opening of Cars Land and a private Jungle Cruise tour skippered by John Lasseter!

From late 1977 through spring 1998, John Lasseter, before becoming chief creative officer at Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios and principal creative advisor for Walt Disney Imagineering, worked at Disneyland, and was a skipper on the Jungle Cruise attraction. Recently, a search for a photo of John skippering the Jungle Cruise came up empty. Surely there must be a photo of Skipper John somewhere? To find one, we have created a contest: the first person to submit a verifiable photo of John as the skipper of the Jungle Cruise from 1977 will win a trip for 4 to the grand opening of Cars Land at Disney California Adventure in summer 2012, and a ride on the Jungle Cruise skippered by none other than John himself! What better way to turn a Disney memory of old into a Disney memory of today?

I remember watching a Disney special where he talked about that's where he got his start. I think it was about Pixar. I can't remember though if he showed a picture or just talked about it. That would be an awesome prize if someone could find it!

He does not have any pictures of himself working at JC. That is why they started the contest. He wants one.

Oh, how I wish I had a picture. That would be our absolute dream, to just be on Jungle Cruise with him (he's kinda our hero). Let alone have him skipper it!

I have no idea when my dad took us (and the pictures from when my mom took is are gone, which is weird), but I'm going to ask him, that's for sure!

I was at the D23 Carsland session when this was announced. Listening to him & the other cm's talk about how Carsland was created was amazing.

I thought Lasseter began working with Pixar in the 1980's? Was he really a skipper for 21 years??? Maybe he was hanging on to his job at DL, in case the groundbreaking achievements in computer animation didn't pan out very well.

I saw the presentation on Sunday where he announced this. He was a skipper only for 9 month from late 1977 to summer 1978. he worked for Disney in other capacities too.

So, what happens if no one submits a photo?? Will they have a way to select a random winner? A large majority of his fans were not even born at the time he worked at Disneyland.

I figured as much, but the way it's worded makes it sound like he was a skipper for 21 years.

DH and his family went to DL during that time!! He was about a year old, and his sister was 4 or 5. His parents are digging through any photos they might have taken to see if there might be one of the Jungle Cruise!

When I heard about this I made DH phone his Mom to check when they went, unfortunately it wasn't until 1980 so no John Lasseter Jungle Cruise for us .

I just emailed my mom and she said her and my dad were there in 1978. I'm guessing the photo has to be from 77?

My mom told me that my dad and here were there in September of 78 for their honeymoon and know she took a bunch of pics (she always does at DL) she is going to check tonight......

There is a typo in the release. According to John at the Cars Land presentation last Sunday, he worked as a JC skipper during Thanksgiving 1977, Christmas 1977 and then summer of 1978. All in all for nine months - but not constantly.
