Isabel Advice

My DD moved to Wilmington a couple of years ago and lives on Whithurst.. Her DH was transferred there from the Midwest. She is in a state of anxiety. What are the locals doing to prepare? If there is a evacuation which way should they go or what shoud they do?

Any advice you can give me to help settle her down would be appreciated.

I have told her everything we do in FL, but she is nervous

We3 don't live in Wilmington, but I can give you some assistance. I'm sure what I'm about to write you've already informed her.

If they plan to stay, make sure they fill their sinks, tubs and containers with water. Have them buy extra batteries, water, flashlights, first aid supplies, portable radio, canned foods, etc. Make sure they fill their car with gas, fill the gas grill, have extra cash on hand (no electricity -- no ATM's).

If they plan to leave, my suggestion is to go west. As a matter of fact I would have them make a reservation now so they will have a room instead of trying to find a vacant motel. I would leave 24 - 36 hours before the hurricane hits landfall. There is nothing worse than trying to get out with everyone else, driving 5 miles/hour.

it's still early, the storm has yet to make the turn. If it continues on it's present course it will hit Florida, but they say "she" will make a nothern turn Monday/Tuesday.

Listed below is the current Satellite loop. It make take some time to load, but it is well worth it. the site (NOAA) also contains ALOT of information.

Hurricane Isabel

My DS lives in that same city and he's trying to stay calm but I can hear it in his voice, not to mention that I'm a bit of a wreck being this far away! He was supposed to go out and buy water and batteries this weekend, not to mention food, just in case. He has some friends inland but not sure if the winds will be worse inland once that darn thing makes landfall. I wish it would just go away - I have family all over the east coast to worry about.

I agree on just GO AWAY, but that does not look like it is going to happen. After hearing the reports this morning, I am telling her to leave the area.

Prayers and PD to everyone up there.

Thanks everyone.

I am in Wilmington NC and it seems most people around here are preparing with the usual necessary items. Batteries, gas, water etc. This will be my first hurricane and have a motel ressie as a back up should we need to evacuate. All we can do is be ready for whatever happens, if it should happen. Of course I'm hoping that it will just breeze by us and go back out to sea! Who knows what a hurricane will do

The Weather Channel just said that people from the Outer Banks to the Delmarva area have the most concern where Isabel is concerned - I wonder how reliable their predictions are. Sending loads of prayers and pixie dust down for Isabel to change her mind and just go away!
