The “lockdown until 2022” talk is ridiculous. We can’t expect to continue to keep certain things shut down for that long. Personally I’m trying to remain hopeful that even if we don’t reach “herd immunity” for a while, we’ll see a big enough impact that hospitalization and death rates will decrease. And that to me is the most important thing because that was the original goal - keep hospitals from being overwhelmed. The one frustration that I share with critics of the virus lockdowns is the changing of the goalposts. COVID is not going to be eliminated, but I’d feel safer if infection rates were lower and people knew they could get care if they needed it. I’d like to believe that even if we’re not “back to normal” for a while, certain restrictions can be loosened throughout next year.
I’m with you on the goal post changing, every time you turn around the CDC or someone moves them back. COVID will not be eliminated like with every other virus, it will only be contained.
