Will you get the Covid vaccine?

Funny you should say that because I am lucky (or cursed) because I don't even get a reaction from anything. I had my last shingles shot in September. No reaction, even from the first one. Flu shot nothing. I mean nothing, no sore spots no swelling, no redness, nothing. I don't usually feel it when they give it to me and nothing after. I have to admit that I have wondered if what I did get was working. As far as the flu, I started getting regular yearly Flu shots about 9 years ago and have never had the flu since. Heck, I haven't even had a cold in over 5 years. I really shouldn't have said that because now I have probably jinxed myself.

LOL, you probably did jinx yourself, goofyernmost!
I never get the flu shot and never get the flu. I also haven't had a cold in years since I started taking Virtamin C every day. It took several months for that to work, but it does. My husband, the skeptic, would not take daily Vit C, but when he saw me without colds, he started on it. Several months later, no colds, sinus infections(which he had 3 or 4 times a year). This has been about 5 or 6 years and works for us.
And, now I probably jinxed us:guilty:.

I think that is why the person commented talking about their medical consideration :) It also was already being talked about for the two prior pages :)
I probably jumped around the pages and missed those. I was just replying to izzy's comments about serious allergic reactions.

to go to public school, most colleges.

All but a few states have exemptions anyone can take if they know about them. Specifically, there are 45 states and Washington D.C. that grant religious exemptions for people who have religious objections to immunizations. Currently, 15 states allow philosophical exemptions for those who object to immunizations because of personal, moral or other beliefs.

I used to help out in an elementary school nurses office and I remember getting them all the time.

I'm sure you have heard how misery loves company. So welcome to the jinxed club.

There is a trend right now on social media that is cracking me up. Basically, it's the tweet below. And people just keep sharing the horrendous things they've put in their body and that is why they're not afraid of the vaccine.

I've seen that recently. For me it wasn't a 200 yr old basement in college but it sure was a large container with questionable cleanliness from the whole process and god know the sheer amount of communal refilling :crazy2:

I'm an NHS nurse, and our Trust received supplies of the vaccine this week, but no word yet when I will receive it. I am not in a high risk group (no underlying health problems, normal weight, run 3-4 times a week, in my early 50's) so feel bad receiving it before others who are more at risk, but if staff have to keep self-isolating due to virus exposure then the NHS will not cope during winter, so for that reason I feel vindicated.

I would like to, but from what I’ve heard I’m not sure when it would be advised for me or my kids to get it. My kids are young (4 and under) and one is a newborn, and I’m breastfeeding. It doesn’t seem like we would be in the groups to get it anytime soon. DH should be able to get it before us.

I used to go to raves. I went to MANY raves. I’ve seen things. Those people have no right to be concerned about this vaccine. Lol

I felt this article/video presented a large and extremely understandable issue we will have with respects to people opting for any vaccine. FWIW the mayor featured in the article is known for being a tough no-nonsense kind of mayor, he's not without controversy but he's one who is outspoken in the community.

This is probably why everyone I know personally says they won’t get the shot. Most of my peers, friends and coworkers are people of color. Mistrust in the government is the biggest reason.

And I seriously can't blames them. I still hope one eventually gets the vaccine but it's a complicated weaving of social issues that compound the concerns about a new vaccine.

As of now, it won’t be mandatory for my hospital. However, as an RN who treat patients with tracheostomies and such, I’m sure it won’t be long since I’m alllllllllll up in people faces 😬

ETA-...and I want to continue working so yes, I’ll be getting it.
Our first doses will be administered today to in-hospital medical staff at 4 of the province's major hospitals. This morning's news reports the vaccine is not mandatory for them either, which surprised me. Aren't other vaccinations (such as the flu shot) required to work in those settings?

Countries with vaccine requirements ask to see proof each time you cross the border into the country, even if you had just been there a few days prior. At least, that’s been my experience.
Yep. DH had to have a full series of travel vaccinations for ministry work in South America. He's got a little yellow form tucked into his Passport that is internationally recognized - no big deal at all.

What influence are community leaders having? Are they speaking out to their people either in favor or against? I suppose the closest comparison we could draw here in Canada is our First Nations peoples, most of whom live on reserves. Their attitudes are quite different. Some of those communities have been very hard hit by Covid and they are frantic that their remote locations make immediate distribution of the vaccine very difficult. Their leaders and other advocates are clamoring for it.

The flu shot wasn’t mandatory until this year. If you chose not to get it you had to wear a mask for the entirety of flu season.

Probably no need to force a mandatory vaccine when so many want it but there isn't enough yet. I think these questions will get a closer look over time.

Right. I think it WILL be mandatory... But it isn’t yet.

Yes I have a friend who has never and will never get a flu shot. She doesn’t trust it. I haven’t asked her about this one.

I saw one community leader (from my area) on the news yesterday and he also wasn’t sold on the vaccine.
