Will you cruise if face masks are required on board?

I believe in masks and social distancing - this is not a complaint about wearing masks. More a desire to spend my money wisely and not on a cruise with restrictions if I can wait a year and go without masks/distancing. I have a Med Cruise booked for July and was hoping - wishfully thinking! - that cruising might be possible without masks and distancing if vaccinations happen quickly for the general population.

I know what the right answer is for me and my pocketbook. Curious about y'all: Will you cruise this year if masks are required on board?

We thought we would not, but we are keeping fingers crossed that we get to cruise in Oct., even with a mask. We got to spend 10 days at WDW over Thanksgiving, so lots of time to get used to mask wearing. 😃

We’ve done WDW twice since August, and flown a few times for work.

Absolutely will not cruise with them, though, as so much of what makes a cruise enjoyable is the social aspect. It’s not so much the masks that would be bothersome as the social distancing requirement hindering lounge and nightclub enjoyment, not to mention theaters and (with others beyond DCL) casinos.

We have had to change our expectations, and plan to do things that we normally would not, and not do things that we normally do. We are also cruising concierge for the first and only time in a midship one bedroom on the Wonder. We are planning to watch movies in the evening, and play games in our suite. We are usually never in our room, so we are thinking of the cruise very differently. It will, at least, be an interesting memory of a cruise during Covid! 🤪

And I would never fault anyone for doing exactly this! Some of the best memories for our family are stateroom/balcony experiences.

Our next cruise isn’t scheduled until November, so maybe that clouds my judgement. God willing we’re well past this in (almost) another year.

Call me crazy, but I’d be more willing to AI resort in a mask than do a cruise. Also, full disclosure, we’re discussing making a couple backup bookings with multiple lines hoping at least one will require vaccines if the pandemic isn’t declared over and drop masks with a few exceptions (kids clubs, maybe theaters, maybe bingo and trivia type events).

Our May, 2020 cruise was cancelled, so we rebooked the same cruise for May, 2021. We thought things would for sure be somewhat normal by then. Fast forward to now, and the March cruises next up to be cancelled. Our kids do not want to be stuck on the ship wearing masks, social distancing and having restrictions on entertainment and excursions. Not to mention getting quarantined to our cabins. We have decided to cancel - $9000 is too much to spend for a partial cruise. It is heartbreaking, but the right thing for us right now.

We did book a short cruise on the dream for early January, 2022. Fingers crossed things are more normal the !

My crystal ball is very foggy at this point for July. It took us 9 months to get to where we are today, the worst it has every been. The vaccine when it gets worldwide wide distribution will help. I'd more concerned about the ports on your Med cruise even allowing you in their countries. I'm not sure even in the best case situation that July is likely for that cruise So whether a mask would be required isn't the issue, will the cruise even happen? I have been working from home since March 22, except for 3 weeks around the November election. Being back in the building I had to wear a mask all the time. The mask was not a big deal. But no, I probably would not go if a mask were required, but not because of the mask. Because it is an indication it isn't safe enough yet.

I would expect Europe to have significant restrictions this summer. At this point, very few European countries have full access even for those from other European nations, let alone Americans. If DCL cannot have Americans coming and embarking, I would expect them to start cancelling the Europe season.

There are some comfortable masks for sale, even some breathable ones where you could blow out a candle and they don't fog up your glasses. However, along with masks policy comes the constant nagging over speakers to wear them and social distance that would annoy me, so I probably will cancel my reservations if masks are required.

Yes, I expect masks will be required since their brand new ad shown today shows people with masks on. We sail in October and expect to have to wear masks. We will wait to see what other restrictions are in place and what cruising is like (if it sails before the Fall) to gauge if we will keep the reservation.

Yes, we will. We've already traveled to Disney World twice with masks required, and to Vero Beach with masks required. I have to wear a mask all day every day at work, and also a face shield, so just wearing a mask doesn't bother me. I'd love not to wear them, but having to wear them doesn't interfere with my enjoyment. We have a Dream cruise booked for January 2022 and will sail, mask or no mask.

I doubt that by the time DCL sails again, Disney will feel it necessary to blare mask requirements over loudspeakers to cruisers. People are so much more used to them now than in the past, and mask requirements can be clearly spelled out both in the required cruise forms and verbally during check-in (which is never automated for a Disney cruise). It's a different situation from the parks, where lots of random people just show up for the day and then leave.

The mask I can deal with; I frequently forget that I'm wearing a mask at the parks. The question is what are the other adaptions they will have to make? Characters, shows, excursions, dining, entertainment, etc. Those have more of an impact on whether or not my $$$$ cruise is worth the money.
