Will you be rooting for Tiger in the Masters

I don't care if he wins, I don't care if he loses and (bonus Off-Topic!-->>) I think his new Nike ad is disgusting.

agnes!

I like watching the Masters but I find the entire commentary nauseating.

Every year Jim Nantz is practically breathless in his adoration of the winner. You would think these guys cured cancer, brought peace to the Middle East and solved the banking crisis between rounds. Yeah, you won---but it is only a game.

To answer the OP, I will not be rooting for Tiger. I agree with a PP who said he not only cheated on his wife, but his children as well. I would love to see Tom Watson hang in there and make a run for it.

I don't think being a cad and cheating on his wife is even close to murder or sexually abusing little boys.

IMHO, his cheating is between him and Elin.

I don't like him, I don't admire him as a person, and I certainly don't respect him, but GAWD can that man play golf.

Eagles on 2 par 5's at Augusta. Who else can even hope to do that?

I don't care about watching golf all that much, but I do love watching somebody who is beyond good.

I agree cheating on his wife isn't even close to murder or abusing children, but there were people saying it doesn't matter what he does, he is still a great golfer. I don't care much about his sex life, but I do feel so badly for his wife and children and what he has done to them it makes it very hard for me to even appreciate his golf skills.

His 2 Eagles were awesome, but I'm honestly more impressed by 60 year old Tom Watson being 5 under par. Even with the course adjustments due to the possible bad weather, that is pretty amazing.

The course will not be as "easy" as yesterday, today should be a very interesting day of golf.

Your absolutely right but op was asking about "supporting" or rooting for some one. I was responding to the ops question about "rooting" or "cheering" for Tiger. She did not ask which crimes were equal, she asked if we would "root" for Tiger.
My standards and values do not allow me to root for some one who has cause so much devistation to another person. I would not root for Bernie Madorff either and I guess what he did wasn't "that bad" either (unless of course you were wiped out by him)

so the bottom line is in my world you have to be alot more than "great at your job" for me to cheer or support you.

He was, and still is, an amazing golfer. That being said, any respect I may have had for him (as a person, not as an athlete) was flushed down the toilet when we found out about his merry-go-round full of skanks.

I won't be rooting for him.

I just don't care, and I didn't before, either. I suppose if I did before, I might still root for him. Having served in Korea in the 80's, I knew dozens of otherwise nice guys who didn't behave themselves when they got the chance not to (what's that line from The Year of Living Dangerously? "Poverty is an incredible aphrodisiac" or something like that.) So Tiger was like those soldiers with wives or girls back home who discovered how easily they could get laid overseas, but he was famous, charismatic, and wealthy enough to do it here. It's not a nice or attractive trait, but it doesn't mean he is necessarily all bad. It's just one aspect of and one flaw in his personality.

Nope. I refuse to support the kind of behavior he has exhibited. I am all for giving someone a second chance, but this just smacks too much of getting of scott free to me.

Nice generalization.

Personally, what he does in his personal life is his business, not mine. That being said, i never really cheered for him before so that won't change now.

I think there is a pretty strong correlation between sports, money and women. So not such a stretch of a generalization.

As far as rooting for him, there are other players I like better. Tiger brings a lot of competition to the circuit, so I am not sorry her is back.

Forgot to say that he is beyond cad.

As far as Suzzanne's comment about the commentary, well, what the heck do you expect them to talk/gush about.

Based on the team rosters of the 4 major sports:

NFL approx 1700 players
NHL approx 1000 players
NBA approx 450 players
MLB approx 750 players

How many of them have been cheating on their spouses?

A whole lot. We don't hear about all of them, just the high profile ones.

Approximately 25% of men are unfaithful. My experience says that money and power increase the egos and the behaviors that are not healthy for marriages and people in general.

I think you are correct, in general. Of course there are exceptions to everything, but this is what I see as a general rule, and I think celebrity should be thrown in there as well.

I expect them to provide commentary, not act like golfers are gods. Every year it is the same, so I expect Nantz's over the top adoration will be evident on Sunday. Watch and tell me if it isn't just a tad much.

Winning the Masters is a great achievement but give me a break. Even my die-hard golf player friends agree that the pedestal these guys are put on is too much.

Satatistics. 25% of men REPORT having been unfaithful when surveyed, I wonder how many more don't admit it??

That is still a long way from "there are 100 other guys on the tour doing the same thing."

It is disgusting. I'll avoid buying anything Nike in the near future, especially anything Nike golf- and I do golf.

I understand why Nike did it, though. Tiger was carousing with Michael Jordan, Nike's cash cow. If Tiger goes down, he might lower Jordan's stock by association. Using Tiger's dead dad? Crazy exploitation.
