Will you be rooting for Tiger in the Masters

Reading articles in various magazines, etc. on him, by him, about him from other players, etc.

Other players say he only stayed with his wife for good press? I'd be interested in reading that.

Not a fan of golf so wouldn't be watching anyway but I think a dose of humility might be good for him so wouldn't mind seeing him tank.

Not really. Golf is not an interest of mine.

However, I don't look up to professional athletes, actors, musicians, politicians or any other random celebrities. Had I been a fan before, I would still be a fan. All this talk of being disappointed in the character of a golfer seems really silly to me.

Personally, I never really cheered for him before. I think he is an amazing golfer. However, I hate that all the focus is on him. Even when another player is doing well, it is about Tiger. So and so is 3 shots ahead of Tiger. Tiger isn't out of the running yet. So and So has made 5 birdies in a row and is on fire, but we're gonna stick with covering Tiger who is having an off round. Ugh!!! Seriously. I hate it. However, I undersand that isn't his fault, but rather the press' fault.

All that said.... I love when I can pull for an underdog. Is Boo playing this year? I like him.

::yes:: I can't stand how the coverage does this. Even before the "scandal" it drove me crazy and took some fun out of watching a big tournaments for me. I also think it contributed to Tiger's entitlement issues.

I love watching golf. I look forward to the Masters all year. It is my favorite tournament to watch. Not so much this year though, the Tiger talk is already ridiculous. It's constant and now it's not just about his game, but the scandal and his possible comeback. It's already totally obnoxious and the tournament hasn't even started.

I was never really a Tiger fan, I can't argue his skill, but his attitude on the course always put me off. I won't be rooting for him this year. I am pulling for Ernie Els or Phil Mickelson.

My DH is a golfer, so he watches tournaments now and then...and I totally agree with you about the coverage of Tiger. It really ruins watching for me, as not everyone is interested in Tiger. :headache:

That might be true. I just don't see anyone saying or even implying what you are saying he said. That would be career sucidie sp?

I will be rooting for Tiger to do well. As someone who has golfed for a long, long time, it is truly amazing what he can do on the golf course. The other guys on the tour are great, but Tiger's swing is the kind of sweetness I can only hope to achieve once or twice in my golfing lifetime!

As to the stuff outside the golf course, why would that affect what I think of his golf game? I can like, and appreciate, what he does, but I don't have to like anything about him outside of it.

Being from Philadelphia, it's funny how quick people were to "forgive" Michael Vick when he returned to the NFL, and, yet, those same people will probably crucify Tiger every weekend for the rest of his career.

I agree with you.

Not a chance. He lost all respect I might have had for him. I hope he fails miserably.

Nope. I caught the golf bug from my husband and I really thought I could be a grown up girl and watch him for his ability only but not gonna happen. I know intellectually this is his private business but emotionally I'm a wife and I can imagine the pain his wife must have gone through.

I'm having a hard time just keeping myself from hoping he falls flat on his face.

It's weird because I keep thinking of those poor wife of that WV miners who died a few days from taking his wife on her very first cruise in 30 years of marriage and then we have Tiger who is making a mockery of marriage.
I know it's totally irrational but I'm skipping the majors and their sponsors this year.

I can't respect murders just because they happen to be good at their jobs, I can't respect those priest who violated those little boys simply because they did good to other people and I cannot respect Tiger.

You have to be a decent human being in order to get my respect not just good at your job.

You summed it up pretty well for me.

Yet, there is a small part of me that wants him to do well. I guess it's him being the underdog now and having to fight his way back. I don't know.

He did a lot of damage. He knew what he was doing and he did it anyway. He didn't want to get caught and knew if he did it would ruin his life (one of his many sound bites). He knew it. And it did.

Anyway, I won't be watching. I won't be rooting for him.

ETA- His focus was on being caught "would ruin "his" life". Didn't mention hurting anyone else, or his family.

Here's hoping he misses the cut and CBS execs are looking for high places to jump from

I don't think anyone here forgave Vick. Did we think he had the right to play? Yes, without a doubt. I abhor what he did, but he was convicted and punished so I defend his right to make a living playing professional sports. will I support him by purchasing his jersey or any thing he endorses? Nope.

I fully support Tigers right to be on that golf course but that's not what the Op asked. She asked would I root for him. Nope.

Unfortunately no matter how Tiger does that will still be all they talk about. If he wins that will be dissected, discussed and analyzed. If he loses the same will happen. :sad2: I understand the interest in Tiger, I just feel there are alot of other excellent players that deserve to be talked/showcased too. Assuming it isn't Tiger, I feel badly for the winner this year, he'll be a footnote in the story of Tiger's return to golf.

I don't think being a cad and cheating on his wife is even close to murder or sexually abusing little boys.

IMHO, his cheating is between him and Elin.

I don't like him, I don't admire him as a person, and I certainly don't respect him, but GAWD can that man play golf.

Eagles on 2 par 5's at Augusta. Who else can even hope to do that?

I don't care about watching golf all that much, but I do love watching somebody who is beyond good.

He's a cad but if he plays well he should win. It's really as simple as that for me. I don't need some type of revenge. I don't particularly care about golf though so whatever.

Nope. I didn't like him before and I don't like him now.
