Will you be at Buffalo or MCO airport? Can you see if this is available?

Last Spring, when we were at WDW, I bought these awesome little $10 flip phones at Wal Mart. It was fantastic as we didn't even have to turn on our Canadian cell phones and worry about roaming charges, etc..

I still have those phones, but need new pay-as-you-go cards for them. If you are waiting around at the airport for your flight and are wandering around, could you look to see if the cards are available at the airport? (I'm thinking convenience store or something similar). Like I said, I'm looking for Virgin cards.

If you do see them (and remember) could you let me know the name of the store.. I might call ahead to make sure they still have them when we go on our trip (which isn't until this Summer)

Thanks! We're planning on using ME this trip and not even venturing off-property. I can buy them when we are driving through Buffalo from a Wal-Mart/Target/Publix, but if I can just get them at the airport, that would be awesome! :thumbsup2

FYI, be careful on this. Usually 1 year after the phone has been sitting in the store, purchased and activated by the user , the SIM card in the phone becomes invalid. So you get a prepaid card, apply it and then find out that the SIM card is no good. You then need a U.S. address to get a new (free) one from the phone maker. I got one and the phone still did not work. I would phone up Net 10 or whoever looks after the phone and give them serial # etc and make sure that the phone will still work if you get a new card. You have 2 options when you buy one of these phones. You can go on the internet and top up the card every 6 months for $10 just to keep the SIM card active or throw it away and buy a new one. We choose option 2 as it is still so cheap to do that.

Uhg. Thanks for this information. I'll see if I can call Virgin and figure out if it will still work. I bought the phones last March, lent them to a friend (who topped them up) in May. I remember when I topped them up last year, the $$ would only be good for 6 months.

I charged them up, but when I turned them on, nothing worked as I wasn't in the US - Would I just need to provide the serial #? I don't even know what the phone number is.

It its a huge hassle, I might just pop into Wal-Mart in Buffalo and get another phone with a $10 card. For $40, it's nice to get the 2 phones and be able to separate for a short time but still be in contact (although DH went into a concrete bathroom at AK once, and the phone didn't work in there... :rotfl: )

Also, do you think if I buy the phones in Buffalo, would it be like long-distance to call the other phone when we are in Florida (sorry... I need these things explained to me ;)

If you topped them up in May and it was good for 6 more months, chances are you will be OK then, but I would still phone and see if the SIM cards are good. Not sure on how the long distance works but if you buy them in Buffalo, you need a Zip code# and that is when you give them an Orlando area zip code. BTW, have fun in Florida!

Just a word of warning. Virgin will not accept Canadian credit cards for purchases over the phone or on the internet (that was my experience in August 2010).

I've got a Tracfone and I top it up online using my Canadian Amex. It won't accept my visa but for some reason my Amex is fine.

OP--I've never seen the prepaid cards in the airport shops.
