Will we be able to go back?

Just did a split stay 5nights in a studio and 3 in the one bedroom. There are 4 of us --a pre-teen DD and DS and DH and I. My theory BEFORE the trip was to save pts. etc. Would not be in room much etc. I would be happy just to be at the resort regardless of the room...ya de ya de yadda.....WELL truth be told the 1 bedroom SPOILED that theory. I fell in LOVE!! I too enjoyed the laundry to a sickening level:laundy: Did it constantly and loved having option to dry the bathing suits... loved to cook our breakfast and odd meal... and well seperate rooms for the TVs and space...AND the KING size bed was a dream!!! Also 2 bathrooms at Kidani was the best!!!So, from now on with the 4 of us going a 1 bedroom it is!! IF it is just DH and I ( like that will ever happen:lmao:) or just DD and I ( can see this happening:hippie:) than we could make due with the studio. There is absolutely no way that the 4 of us can go back to studio unless it is just for a couple nights on the beginning or end of the trip to save a few pts. DVC RULES but I NEED MORE POINTS AGAIN!!!!

I never get a one bedroom...so I have no say...but I never stay in the room long enough to care what size room I have while there as long as I am at WDW

Will be in a 1BR at BWV because I could get standard view and it wasn't that many more points than some of the studios for the same time period. It is our 25th anniversary that week so figured it is well worth the extra points this time. In most cases if it is just 2 of us a studio is fine but I really do like the larger units when there are more than that and if the points work out I will do the 1 BR or larger.

I either travel solo, with my dgd4 or with my disser friend and have always stayed in a studio. I love the deluxe restaurants at Disney and do NOT want to cook when I am there. But it would be nice to have a bigger refrigerator. When my dgd and I were at VWL last spring all our food froze in that little one. I have a jacuzzi at home and never use it. So it is hard for me to justify a one bedroom right now when my dgd likes to sleep with me and when there is just one or two of us. But I would love to stay in a 1 bedroom just because they are so cool. Maybe I should buy more points....

When I bring my mother who is in her 80's it is a 2 BR, a short trip with DH a studio is fine. If either of the children come now 21 and 15 we have to have a 1BR or it is not a vacation......too much family "togetherness."

As for a kitchen, I don't really cook on vacation, but I like to be able to make my own real coffee (no Nescafe) and drink it from a glass mug and send the carafe and other dishes through the dishwasher. I love the dishwasher in the 1 BR and the washer and dryer. We fly and if we can wash, we pack a lot fewer clothes. I also like to warm my clean towels in the dryer for use when I get out of the shower. The jacuzzi tub is a Godsend when I have "Disneyworld feet" I love the food at Disney, but need to eat small meals due to acid reflux. The kitchen allows me to warm things in the microwave and oven. I like to bring things back to the room for breakfast, like almond pretzels from the bakery at Norway in Epcot or goodies from the French Bakery in Epcot. The kitchen allows me to have good coffee in a glass mug and Disney food on glass plates while in my pajamas in privacy. That is vacation for me.
Different trips and people=different accomodations and properties.

No.

I was really surprised to learn how small the studios are. Plus, you'll love th extra bathroom!

DH tends to look at things with a perspective towards frugality. (Ok, DD30 has been calling him Squeaky for years :lmao:) But after taking one look at the 1 bedroom model in Schaumburg, he was all for getting extra points so we could have a 1 bedroom when we take trips with the DGD.

I love the washer/dryer. I bought those 3in1 laundry sheets and tossed in our clothes every night. I hate packing dirty laundry, and found washing the day's clothes each day to be quite easy. Yes I lumped them all into one load each night, but that was good enough for vaca purposes.

I loved the wonderful kitchen.. Ok, I never used it, we had DDP :rotfl: , but I decided when I began planning a trip just for DH and I, that I wouldn't mind cooking there. In fact, my trip planning has gone from "not minding cooking a couple meals" to planning our schedule around the kitchen and cooking things I haven't had time to do for ages... like a full turkey dinner and cookies from scratch.

The results: our DVC plans (and points) have gone from going every other year, to going every year alternating between park-years with DGD and DDP with alot of character meal ADRs, and non-park years with us relaxing in a 1 bedroom cooking together and just hanging out in the nicer winter weather at WDW. If staying in a 1 bedroom wasn't so addictive, I doubt that would have happened.

I can do a studio for 2 or 3 days but beyond that it is a villa. It works out well for us since we do splits and often do 2-3 days at a resort at the begining an/or end and a villa for the long section during the middle.

Wait until you stay in a GV at OKW or the THV @ SS.

I am having a hard time convincing my wife to stay in a 2BR after staying in those. :)

Yes, you can go back.

We did a 1 BR at SSR in 2009 and it was wonderful. We did not care so much for the kitchen (it was nice), but we loved having the in-room laundry and the private room for DW and I.

However, you still have to share a bathroom (or at least toilet). For the number of points on a 1 BR, I could get two studios and have privacy and two bathrooms, but not guarenteed adjoining rooms.

Our dds (8,6) are still young and we enjoy to low point cost of studios, and don't need the space now. Plus, we get to enjoy 2 vacations a year on studios or 1 vacation a year at a 1 bdr.

I'll tell you it is really hard. We are going through the same thing right now. Next year DD15 and I will be staying for one week in a studio. Just the 2 of us easy :cloud9:. But DH:hug: joins us for the next week. There is plenty of room in the studio for him but the girls are night owls and he likes to get up early, get coffee and just make a bunch of noise. I am deciding now if the one bedroom is worth the extra points (we will have to borrow) or if I can deal with a week of very little sleep.

Well, we went from Moderates to DVC and have booked 1BRs ever since. Having said that, I am currently booked for 5 nights in a BWV Boardwalk View for Oct, a BLT studio for 3 nights in Feb, and a 1BR BWV Standard View for (I forget how many nights, 4 or 5 I think) for May.

I say this to point out that, booking the studio gave us one more trip of Magic, and left us with enough points for the next trip back to a 1BR.

So, use your points however, if you book a smaller room one trip, at least it's another trip to a place that you love.
:hippie:

Didn't you read any of the health department brochures on unprotected vacationing? Now you've gone and caught addonitis. There's no cure.

For heavens sake, though, don't ever invite friends or family to stay with you in a two bedroom. That'll lead to stage two addonitis.

Actually, we do love the one-bedrooms, but still make many of our alone trips in a studio. That allows us to save up for the bigger group trips. That doesn't mean I don't have to constantly force myself not to check the resale boards looking for more points, though.

Your post made my morning. I needed that laugh, or should I say - scare....

According to my wife - "yes you will be able to stay in a studio again, but you won't like it".

Something tells me that our next add on is sooner / larger than I thought.

It depends on the trade-offs. I am ALL about clean towels, so I would take a concierge studio in a split second over a larger villa WITHOUT concierge services. DS and DH are ALL about lounge access, so there again, they don't miss the extra square footage when there is food involved.

Will we stay in a studio without concierge again? Eh...tough call. Not with all 3 of us. Maybe if it was just DH and me.

I think the thing that scares me the most about going back to a studio is not having a washer/dryer in the room. I think I would miss that more than a full kitchen. That being said, I fully expect that when the day comes that DH and I go it alone, we will go back to studio. Right now we have the 2 kids and I can't imagine staying in anything but a 1BR. However, we will be staying in a Hampton Inn twice this summer in RI and NY. So not looking forward to that!

We were totally able to go back! In fact, after a week in a one- bedroom we reassessed and found that 1. We never sat at the kitchen table.
2. We never cooked any food or ate in the villa 3. We never turned on the TV in the master 4. We never sat in the living room and watched tv or a movie as a family

I did like the king bed and laundry. But, at the end of the week, felt the space and points were a waste for us. It's been studios ever since!

It is just DH and I. We paid cash for a 1 BR at OKW before we bought DVC and had our first stay at our home of BWV in a 1 BR. Since then, every trip with just the 2 of us has been in a studio and we are just fine with that.

We like the size of most studios, with the Q bed and sofa and really make use of the kitchenette. We stayed in a 2 BR at VGC recently with friends, and having a full kitchen did not change either the number or the kind of meal we made. While in room laundry facilities are nice, I figure for the MF on at least 10 points per night, I could probably pay the hotel to do our laundry for us!

Enjoy your indulgence -- Suzanne

I've only been in studios so far. I'm worried about ever upgrading to the 1BR. I can say though that a year and a half ago we saved some points to book free dining at Pop Century. I quickly decided that I can never go back to a Value hotel room again. Too crowded in the room, no microwave or fridge, just lack of everything I like now. I will say though that the Value's food courts blow away the Deluxe resorts.
