I know many people will cancel or re-think their trips to WDW, but we're NOT! I was wondering if anyone thinks that with the chance of attendance dropping, will discounts be deeper? I'm hoping that a great rate come out for the CR or BCV. Right now we're booked at CBR, but I'd love a deluxe or Home Away From Home. I know we may get AP rates or discount codes, but maybe there'll be more than that...........

Just wonderin'!

It's hard to say for sure - but my guess is yes it will.

As with any other business the bottom line is to make money. I would suspect that if attendance drops, the discounts will come out. Good luck.

I think we are already seeing that happen. There were two more codes that came out yesterday and many are getting postcards too. Maybe Disney is already seeing the cancellations more then we realize and trying to bring in more people.

Just remember, if you pay a lower price, you will also be getting less for your money (or hopefully your money's worth), with shorter hours, canceled shows/fireworks/nighttime entertainment, closed restraurants and rides; and possibly closed resorts. We went in October, just weeks after 9/11 and experienced these lack of services. We did however, found longer lines because of the cut backs in personnel at WDW which included fast pass not operating--even when there were extremely long hour wait lines at test track and sections of our food courts were closed, less registers open to pay for food and merchandise at shops. We have reservations to go in May, July, September and October and hope that nothing will cause us to have to change our plans. We have yet to buy plane tickets for May because of the extremely high airfare currently but we still have hopes for a spring fare soon.

Check almost every day of the week on the airfare. I found that on Saturday through Tuesday, the fares were lower than Wednesday through Friday. The rates would change all week long. It was kinda weird, but once I got the hang of it, I found relatively cheap airfare.

ktglads-just curious what you paid for airfare in May? I'm, flying out of Rochester 5/17 & have yet to buy my tixs since the prices are higher than I would like to pay.

TIA!

I'm flying out of BUF on 5/15 at night and paid 188 round trip Delta, paying more only to get in a little earlier (10:00 PM as opposed to 12:30 AM). The other option was 156 round trip. I paid about 220 for round trip for Aug, but again, it was because of times that we went up the $30.

Welovedis...........keep checking SWA from Buffalo. We got NonStop flights for May for $173 (missed out on the $151) I called this week on Tuesday when I noticed rates went down and they credited us the difference. New flight cost is $151.

If you get lower prices, deeper discounts, please don't whine when everything YOU expect to be open isn't. And everything YOU expect to be open till all hours isnt.... It costs money to keep a place like WDW as magical as YOU expect it to be. I am sure that if necessary, they will go ahead and discount as deeply as they can without losing money, but along the way they are going to have to cut their costs wherever necessary, and when the do (remember after 9-11) there were loads of people looking for "disaster specials", and then yelling their heads off when the parks closed at 7pm. Just MHO. Sorry to sound so harsh, but that's exactly what happened last time.

Does anyone else get the feeling that Disney is waiting to get a feel for how long the war will last? Indications are it will be a quick one, and if so, WDW will be very busy this summer. They may not need to offer big discounts after all. Diana

We've always gone in offseason and are always left with shorter hours and less of everything. We also get less crowds which is why we chose to go at those times. You get a lot more done even in the shorter hours since there are no crowds. We went 30 days after 9/11 and it was great. We found no lines and most everything was a walk on. Fast pass is only used when crowds are up and it is necessary. so if fasspass is not being utilized then that is a good thing.

I am sure that this thread didn't intend to come off as I initially read it and I understand what your question is, but to be anxious and excited about what a better deal you may get for your vacation while our country and our citizens are at war risking their lives seems quite distasteful to me.

I agree with Melissa. When I first saw the thread, I thought the same thing.

MelissathePooh,

Sorry if you think I sounded distasteful, but I am trying to live my life as normally as possible. It isn't easy being a new mom full of fear that a terrorist attack could hit at any second...that is why I am trying to focus my thoughts and energy on the positive things in life. Sorry if I offended.

Also, to those of you that think I would be upset if the hours were shortened, etc., I am going to DIsney for the magic not necessarily the attractions. It seems to me lately that people are bashing others....let's all remember we're in this together and we DO need to support our country. One way of doing that is travelling. So what if I'm looking for a discount. I've gone to WDW many times and paid full rack rate. Aren't these boards set up so that we are informed consumers??? WHy did I get bashed for asking a question? Man, maybe I'll just keep to myself.....

I don't think you got bashed. Melissathepooh just stated that INITIALLY it looked bad and that she did understand your question.

I thought the same thing when I first saw the subject of your question. We all know what the purpose of the question is and we know that you don't wish anything bad to happen to anyone.

It was an innocent question, and a logical one. I knew you were going to get some criticism for your post, Scanne. I don't think you stated your question in a distastful manner at all. By the way, I think the war will be too short to significantly impact WDW attendance in the long run.

SCANNE - I'm with you!!

These boards and particuliarly this thread is about saving money on your WDW vacation for many of us who are here. I don't think it was distasteful at all. Our family trip is planned for next month - war or no war. My two boys are very scared about what's happening right now, especially since they have a uncle who is Kuwait. THis trip will be a much needed break for them, hoping Disney will take their minds off the war. Everyone knows that war deeply affects the travel industry, and asking how it might affect Disney is a logical question.

I understand what Anne is asking. A lot of people are trying to focus on something happy. I can't fault her (not saying you are) for trying to see something else right now.

My DH is a police lt. in DC. Right now, my he is working 6p-6a 6 days a week. My daughter and I are not seeing him at all. He's gone before we get home and doesn't get home till after we leave. This is (most likely) going to go on for quite awhile. We're also moving in a month and half. Couple all of this with the idea of a terrorist strike and my country at war and suddenly, I can't my mind around any of it! Instead, I'm concentrating on the overtime checks. I'm figuring out what we will be able to do in our new home that we thought we'd have to put off for awhile. I know this sounds cold, but it's the best I can do to keep going right now. I think that Anne is doing the same thing. She's not saying she doesn't care about the war, or the people involved, she's just concentrating on a better situation. I completely understand.

Erin :D

SCAnne - You just asked what I was also thinking, just couldn't figure out how not to seem self-absorbed. To me, it's not that different from asking how the war will affect gas prices. This trip to the world this summer will increase in cost due to my sixteen hour drive in a converstion van. It would be nice to have a discount on the room to offset it, but no one, not Saddam Hussein (sp), Osama Bin Laden, will stop us from going!:bounce:
