Will Walt Disneyworld ever expand the monorail?

To heck with the sleeper, it's about time they upgraded the restrooms on the monorail. :drinking1

Most of them smell like it, why not make it official?

OK - I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this too. I've often thought that something smells "afoul" on the monorails as well.

With all the discussions (over time and on other threads) of how "unmagical" the buses are, I can't believe that no one else notices the "odor" on those monorails. Sure buses aren't the best, but at least they don't have a distinct odor....

i'll take the "monorail smell" over the buses' distinctive "sweaty armpit" aroma any day of the week!

I was gonna say, it's been a while, for me, but the busses smelled as bad or worse then the monorails.

To me the monorails always have a funny smell. The buses smelling is a function of how crowded they are/aren't at the time.

The smell on the monorails is a function of how much Disney's maintenance has been cut back. If they would clean them every night (like they're supposed to), there wouldn't be a problem.

Just a question, when was the last time you said something nice about Disney?

Friday actually, I was showing someone around California Adventure and took them to the lobby of the Animation Building. I said, and honestly believe, that it's a great room. It still proves that Disney can still build "wow" when they want to, even with the massive cuts that hit the place.

Or this weekend when I saw the first videos and pictures of Tokyo DisneySea's version of 'Tower of Terror'. The storyline is a huge improvement over the WDW version. It adds immensly to the attraction and fills-in all the missing bits. Although the Tokyo version suffers from having the California Adventure half-*** version of the ride (no Fifth Dimension room). But overall, it shows that Disney can turn out a first class ride when they want.

I don't think that Disney is evil or is forever broken. Nor do I think they're untalented or have lost anything.

My problem is that Dinsey chooses to do substandard work these days. Their greed is too close to the surface; they choose the easy short-term quick fixes instead of the more profitable long term solutions.

All it's going to take to turn Diseny around is for them to decide to run the business properly.

You have proven my point. You just mentioned two recent times you have "praised" Disney, but in both you take a shot. The first one mentions "the massive cuts that have hit the place" and you praise the ToT but note that it still suffers from the half-a** DCA version.

I think its impossible for you to say one completely, no-zingers-attached nice thing about today's Disney. And that, in my humble opinion, is not fair.

Who knew that we needed to be fair to our mega billion dollar corporate monoliths?

I had no idea, you know, nobody worries about being fair to GM. And man, I really wish they would have left Enron alone.

Those weren't zingers - they were the truth. There's no value in praising something when that praise is filled with lies or ignores reality. The Animation lobby did suffer large budget cuts during its development - but it still turned out great. To me that makes it an even stronger creation and deserving of even more praise. Pretending that "this is as good because we planned it this way" is an insult to all the people that had to overcome additional adversity. Overcoming restrictions because of time or resources has always been a part of Disney's creative process. It's important to note that great things can be created with limited means.

The fact that Disney has chosen to remove the best and most unique aspect of the 'Tower of Terror' is important be you can only judge Tokyo's version by what they were allowed to build. As great as the rest of the attraction is - and there is much to praise there - it is still less than what they hoped it would be. And no doubt the trolls will attempt to agrue that WDW is "better" because of the additional room, while overlooking everything else that Tokyo has going for it. Cheap and immature "fanboy" praise isn't real praise at all - it is people trying to prove themselves superior because of their interests.

So it basically comes down to one thing. The truth is complicated. Lying and lying-by-ommission to say just "nice things" about Disney or anything else is still lying.

You do not need to be fair with anyone. That is just a way of saying that criticism is unwarranted.

I agree. I'm merely pointing out that you cannot say a single purely nice thing about Disney. Thats fine. Its your opinion (which I don't agree with but so what) and you are entitled to it. These debates would not be as fun without the Complainers, I mean, Element. :)

For the record, I hope you do not include me in the cheap-praising fanboy list.

I don't include you there. It's also the reason why I'm here and not on any of the "Magic" boards. The DIS is place were real topics can be discussed instead of just mindless cheerleading.

As to comments - nothing in life is as simple as "all good" and "all bad". Every project has a long history. It's the balance between "good" and "bad" that goes into the final judgement of something - there are bits in the greatest movies that can improved just as there are some good bits in even the worst movie.

Since this the "News and Rumors" section, this is the place to talk about the background, the history and the juicy bits. Sometimes good projects go right, sometimes they go bad. I think people are interested in finding out more than "EverEST is sO kEwL dude" and are curious about why things work and why they sometimes don't.

If having an elevator move on a visible track slowly forward like a tanker while looking at display cases of Twilight Zone artifacts is the best and most unique aspect of TOT for you then I can understand your pain.

Since I think this is a wasted scene that takes you completely out of the story(possessed elevator taken over by Morgan Freeman in "Driving Miss Daisy) Tokyo made the right choice.

And after more than 1100 posts I think I finally agree with you. And for the record, I still say Soarin' and Turtle Talk are great attractions. I don't think you could improve the Godfather, 1 and 2, at all.

I totally disagree and think the 5th dimension room makes TOT at WDW and it's DCA counterpart is truly lacking because of it

Sure you could...by not making 3.

Aren't we talking about monorails in this thread? I sure would even pay to ride an expanded system
