Will US AIR remain a Hub in Pittsburgh?

This has been going on in PIT for quite a while. Many many people in the area wish that USAirways would make up their minds.

The county is working hard on filling the void that would be left if USAirways leaves.

The airport is a mere shadow of its former self. It still is one of my favorite airports. I love the Air Mall in the middle.

If US Airways bails on PIT, I will be very sad. It is one of my favorite airports. As I sit here in a hotel in NYC, I look around the room and see the many things I've purchased in the airmall, from my nightie at the Jockey store, to my laptop bag at the luggage store, to my makeup from the Clinique store. It is an EXCELLENT airport and as an elite US flyer, one of the few pleasures of flying that airline.

McNuss, I will be going out to PIT today to fly to Chicago if the weather and flights cooperate.

They aren't saying how the meeting with US went yesterday. I sure hope they find a way to comprimise.

Thanks for the update!

Safetymom - did you get to Chicago?

I got out of LGA on the 5pm Shuttle. The winds were starting to kick up and it had just begun to rain. I consider myself lucky bc the flight board was awash in red CANCELLED flights!

This has been driving me nuts for quite a while now, as our flight to Disney is through US Air in February!!!

McNuss, yes I made it here to Chicago. When I got here I see the flight was delayed to Pgh. It was bumpy on the way over so we had to drop in altitude. Glad your flight was flying.

I would rather be at home to keep an eye on things.

Jcemom, you don't have anything to worry about with USAirways. They have been through their bankruptcy and are doing well. They are just deciding how much of a presence they want in Pittsburgh. They will still be operating out of PIT come Feb.

I'm not so much concerned that I won't get ANY flight, but rather that I won't get my non-stop at perfect times of the day flights that I booked! ;)

I agree with you...........we also have non-stop flights in Feb and June with very good times and prices($190). I would hate to have to start looking again.

I heard on the news that if the deal does not go through, USAir will reduce their non-stop cities from Pittsburgh from around 100 to 36. I think it's a good bet that one of the 36 would be Orlando. I've never been on a PIT-MCO flight that wasn't close to full. Of course, some of those passengers came off connections, so the number of daily flights maybe reduced. They could also have more connections through Charlotte. I have a feeling a deal will be worked out, I can't believe the county or state would allow thousands of people to lose their jobs, think of the political fallout. USAir is Allegheny Co's largest employer with over 8,000 jobs. It is a shame that all the unions gave big concessions to get the airline out of bankrupcy and at the last minute coming out of bankrucpy they cancelled the leases and threated to cut their jobs.

I'm very curious as to what will happen. I hope US Airways will stay at PIT, but they shouldn't expect their costs to go way down.
