Will There Be A CS Option In Kidani?

Disney does so many things right, why do they have such a hard time understanding that people like CS restaurants. At this point, I'd even take one of their gosh awful combo CS/retail designs.

Seriously, if they did a survey of 100 members asking "would you like a CS restaurant in the new Kidani?" does anyone doubt there would be 99 folks checking yes, with only the guy from Palm Beach County checking no.

I don't live in Palm Beach County and I'd vote no - well what I would vote is that a CS isn't important to us. I'd have no problem with a CS being put in, but its of little or no importance to us. We just aren't "fast food" people and rarely use the CS option

I'd rather they put a CS in than change the planned TS to another steak house.

I'm with you pal. I don't want to eat a goat or a yak. Don't care how it's prepared or if it tastes like chicken. :lmao:

Why can't we be able to sit in a beautiful restaurant in a wonderful setting and order a great tasting normal "american" meal. I mean it's to the point now that if it was any more authentic, you wouldn't be able to drink the water.

I think that is the way it should be!

Jarestel's point about SSR adding the TS option after opening is dead on. DVC will adjust to our demands. What is frustrating though is they know most everyone would love/want a CS option and they are holding back. After enough people ask for it they will put something in, but waiting is the frustrating part.

I think there is a bit of a distinction there, however. The Turf Club WAS part of the initial design for SSR...only it was presented as a lounge. I'd say a lot of luck contributed to its conversion from bar to restaurant. It just so happened that they had a kitchen close enough to use AND unused space that could be converted to a dining room without the expenses being too high.

Kidani is all new construction so they may not have a few thousand square of excess space to convert to a restaurant. And I doubt they will be willing to expand the physical structure to make room.

I think the best anyone could hope for would be a cooler in the corner of the gift shop that sells "grab-and-go" type pre-packaged sandwiches and salads.

One thing that I've found very striking during all of my stays to AKL is that the guest make-up there seems to be largely European. Perhaps it's the theming - and it appeals more to international sensibilities.

Indian food is extremely popular in Europe - so it's no surprise to me at all that AKL will be the place to fill that gap for international guests and continental guests that prefer stronger spices and wider vegetarian offerings.
I'm not worried about the menu - BOMA serves plain ole roast beef and chicken nuggets and Jiko has a filet mignon with red wine glaze that is as normal "steak-y" as anything Le Cellier offers. I'm sure that there will be the traditional "steak" and "ribs" offering you see at every Disney restaurant, with the happy additions of some tandoori and curry flavors on other dishes. I'm just glad it's not due to be a buffet!

Indian type dishes at the new Kidani place? Cool:yay:

To me, a plain-menued CS restaurant at the resort is a luxury

Yes, a luxury. Not because the food is outstanding, but the occasional opportunity to quickly grab some Mickey waffles before going to the parks in the AM, or quickly grab a burger after naptime and heading back to the parks gives me more time. To me the greatest luxury is time, and I like the "quickly" because that gives me more time at the parks.

I prefer to use TS options in the parks, as they are generally more "Disney" themed and that's why I am at WDW.

I sort of see the business sense of not having as much CS at a DVC resort where most rooms have full kitchens (less demand), but reducing CS options at DVC vs the "cheap" value resorts (that I used to stay at) has somewhat reduced one measure of quality of stay to me.

I just got back from AKL and we went to Mara for lunch last Thursday around 1:00pm. The line was very slow. I can't imagine the guests at Kidani using it too. It also looks like quite a walk from Kidani.

Actually, a CS option benefits everyone. I'm as sure as I'm old that we will see multiple complaints here once KV opens about children misbehaving and acting up in the TS restaurant to the annoyance of those seeking quiet and relaxing meals. When the wee ones have been overtired by marching them around the parks and swimming pools for a whole day, it's not always wise to attempt a dinner out. But if there are no alternatives, well, the kids gotta eat, no?

So whether one has intentions of ever setting foot inside a CS restaurant or not, consider it for what is is... a quick & easy way to get food when dining out would not be a desirable option for some members.

tjkraz makes a good point that once the building is complete, there may not be any place to physically locate a CS restaurant. But now, while they have some hammers, nails, and 2x4s left, might be the perfect time to impress upon DVC any preferences one might have. After all, according to another popular thread, DVC values our input and feedback. I'll send my input & feedback to see if anyone values it.

Jumping ahead to the next development... I want both TS and CS options in that one. And in the development after that? I want both TS and CS options. And in the one after that? I want both TS and CS options.

I really know nothing any more specific than the speculation and wishes of some of our DIS posters. If Kidani creates another specialty restaurant along the lines of Boma/Jiko, then I'm just not all that thrilled. I really don't care how well someone can cook a goat, I'm still not eatin' one, ya now what I mean? Hence my snooze comment and self-depracating "taste challenged yahoo" remark.

Not trying to sound snarky here, but have you actually eaten at Boma or Jiko before making this last comment? They do not serve goat and, in fact, serve very good food.

In fact, I am not concerned at all that there is no CS available at Kidani. If we need something "on-the-go," we can go to Mara or a CS in the parks. Not a major issue at all for us.

Sorry, guess I should have put one of those little smiley faces after the sentence to indicate that it was a light-hearted comment.

I've eaten at both restaurants. They are fine establishments, and no, they don't serve goat. (which I guess is bad news for those searching WDW for that primo goat dish)

I'm another one that will be submitting my comments. It never occured to me that they wouldn't have a CS option. We don't use it that often but it would definately be beneficial if it was available. I have tried Boma and love it but I still want a counter service option. If you look at the map of the entire resort it looks to be quite a hike from Kidani to Jambo if you want to go to Mara.

We rarely eat CS. We either grab a snack in the room or eat TS.

I'm sure they'll do something. Maybe have an expanded list of pick up items at the onsite store, take out from the TS restaurant or something similar. It would be somewhat difficult to retrofit a CS option but not difficult to have a takeout option associated with a TS. It's also possible to do a quick meal option associated with the pool.

Ok....pretty cheesy to not have a CS. Come on.....I definately think it enhances my vacation to be able to run down and get a quick bite to eat when all the well laid plans fall to waste.

also I don't EVER use the quiet pool.....dosen't mean I don't like the option of having it there if I WANT to use it.

Also....Someone please correct me....I must have missed something but.....
I thought that there is NO walking path between Jambo and Kidani.:confused3
Did they add one....or am I dreaming.:headache:

Hmmm, I don't see all the hoopla about another boring CS. Especially when every villa will have at least a microwave. Cooking an egg in the microwave or toasting up some frozen waffles isn't any lower quality than you get at a counter service place at WDW. Plus it would actually be faster (and cheaper...even if you do buy it at the lobby store).

We've been known to pass on CS in order to make a quick batch of grilled ham and cheese sandwiches for lunch. And it was a nice break from the ubiquitous counter service offerings we had been eating all week.

I think it's highly likely that the store will have offerings similar to those at BCV. (though I'd be thrilled if they were more like SSR...we've never stayed there but have stopped for sandwiches for the ride home a couple of times! yum!)

boma and jiko aren't really that "exotic" - boma is pretty much a family style buffet with a few themed items, and you can get steak and macaroni and cheese and jiko. And it isn't that far to the mcdonalds or the chik-fil-a from animal kingdom lodge anyway.

Well this girl certainly doesn't know what in the world you could possibly mean....:rotfl: :lmao: ;)

I love goat. Yum, yum yummy.

OP - Would love a CS at Kidani. Hopefully, they put in some kind of option.
