Will MS really cancel your reservations if you are the lead on two?

I've heard this tossed around and was wondering if there is any empirical evidence of this happening- where a member is the lead guest on more than one reservation for the same time frame and DVC cancels one or both of the reservations as a result. Does this really happen? If so, is there a way to avoid it?

From what I have heard if you call MS to reserve, they have not allowed you to have the same lead name on two reservations for same time . All you need to do is change the lead name on one, such as putting your spousal member as lead on one or making a person who is going with the members as the lead on one.

Since I do not usually call to make reservations, I cannot confirm the above. However, I have made reservations online for the same time with my name as lead on both several times. I do it because I generally know who is going with us but it is not certain at time of reservation. Later I have changed one of the reservations when knowledge of actual occupants became certain. I have not had any issue of MS cancelling one of the reservations.

I have held two reservations during the same time frame several times and never had one cancelled. Sometimes, we like to have an overlapping reservation from one resort to another so that we're not in limbo for half a day. It does cause havoc with the second resort you are checking into but they always find a way around it.

When I'm holding two, I made myself a lead on one and my husband the lead on the other. Recently I was doing some reservation clean ups and the CM noticed I was the lead on two reservations. She changed the lead to my daughter who was traveling with us. I didn't really have a choice in the matter. Often my daughter will stay with us for the first night to save on points and then move into her room the next morning. This results with her being listed as a guest on both mine and her reservations, but it makes it appear she's in two rooms.

I didn't even know this was an issue I am glad I read this! What is the reason does anyone know that you can't have two rooms on the same name? Is it same for booking a room rack rate?

The front desk at BCV had a problem in May when I had a friend, Faye, in one room (studio) for 2 nights (with another friend who could only stay for those 2 nights) and then had friend Faye join me and others in a 2 bedroom for 3 nights. In the end, they bumped Faye out of the studio (in their system) and gave her "guest passes" so she could use SAB and her MB always allowed her into the 2 bedroom. It never let her into the studio.

These days it isn't really about that, and no I don't think they will. But MDE will get terribly mixed up if you tried to check in to 2 rooms at the same time. I shudder to think over it!

I have had CRO question me having a DVC room reservation and wanting to make a cash one also, so yes, they also don't really care for it. The response is generally that you can't be in 2 rooms at once. When I've explained why most have usually gone ahead with it - even MS. I've had one MS person refuse but when booking online I've had nothing cancelled. MDE confusion though is a very very valid concern and if you end up checking in on both you should hope for the best but expect to spend quite a bit of time dealing with the issue. Now I use a DBA or dummy name. Just a shortening of my name so it's like 2 of me.

That's a really good idea.

Thank you so much, everyone! I really appreciate all the great advice...many things I had never thought about, but I appreciate you giving me ways to fix them too :)!

I am extremely relieved to know that I can book two reservations online for around the same time period and not risk losing my *precious* AKV Club studio (insert Gollum-like cackling here)

Now that is an excellent idea wish I had throughout of that

I haven't seen any evidence they will and I've held as many as 4 at one time in my name (all exchanges). They do get pushy about changing them once they realize it though.

This is a very intriguing idea as we always do split stays. We always have issues getting our bands to work at the second resort regardless of whether we check out of the first one early enough. It ends up being a huge time suck each time, and I'd love a way around it! May I ask, do you overlap by booking your second stay a day earlier than you actually want to arrive or vice versa, or how does this work? Thank you :)!

I guess the bottom line is, while they will change it if they see it when on the phone with you, like they've done to me. I guess I don't want to find out if it will be cancelled. So now I avoid that. Funny how they say you can't change the lead, but yet they've done it to my reservations, making my husband or my daughter the lead when they realized I was the lead on two reservations.

I wonder why Disney cares? Why wouldn't they sell you a second room?

I think they care because of MDE. If you are registered for two rooms, it is a BIG issue for MBs, DME, FP+, etc. IMO, they are trying very hard to eliminate the problems people have with MBs.

As long as you are only registered to one room before check-in (online or at front desk), there shouldn't be any harm done. (The one time I needed to do two rooms when I really only needed one, I just made my DH lead on one reservation - it was a back up reservation & waitlist situation). If you don't take care of the duplication in time, the MB issues are on you, even though both you & Disney CMs have to spend time working things out. (Sometimes, that takes several hours to fix and it doesn't stay fixed). If enough people have issues because of multiple rooms, it's a cost concern to Disney (as well as a perception that the MB system is a disaster).

If you need to register for more than one room, it's a good idea NOT to link both reservations to the same MDE account if you can help it. More than one MDE account may have ramifications for tickets & FP+ reservations, though.

I asked if I could add my DH to the 2BR that is being shared by my parents and sister's family so that we would have no issues going to TOTWL. They said no...he can only be on one reservation. He was not the lead on our reservation either.

Well, as we are trying to figure out dates, sizes, and occupants, I officially have two rooms temporarily booked online under my name so we shall see what happens ;).

The way to avoid anything of this nature with MS, is not to talk to them. Laughing.

I avoid as long as I can. I do mostly everything online and when I have to phone them, a few too many pull up and make comments on other reservations - things that I don't point out, don't ask about and frankly are none of their concern (nothing against rules and a few do think they are being helpful.). Drives me bonkers.

Even then to deal with them directly, I try to email my needs. Don't forget that option with your situation.

I have also found that front desks have done things in this nature for me, without hesitation. Where MS was making a bigger deal about it. And most of the time there are very pertinent reasons that I needed this option.

There are some fantastic MS CMs for sure, lots. But a few too many get into your business, in my opinion. And some that have the most insane erroneous information. I had one *manager* that told me that I could 100% lose a NYE reservation if he tried to link it. And that is was only fair to other members if they grabbed it, for them to have the potential, about a month out. I still laugh hysterically thinking about that flow of insane communication.

Sorry that I used your thread to vent.

Good luck with everything. Have a lovely vacation.
