Will I like Tilapia? Good recipe?

My easy tilapia recipe? Fish tacos. I take a tilapia filet and put it in a ziploc bag. Then I add some taco seasoning(the same seasoning I would use for beef tacos) into the bag and shake to coat. Then I either pan fry or grill the fish(only takes a couple of minutes). Serve just like a regular taco. Delicious.

Also, I found a brand of fish filets at Kroger that I really like. It is Sea Cuisine brand. It is in the frozen seafood section of my store. I've tried the Potato crusted cod and the Coconut crusted, tortilla crusted and parmesan crusted tilapia(my favorite). They were all very good. They have about 10 varieties available. Not all of them are crusted, some of them are just seasoned.

The only thing I have against tilapia is that is always seems to be frozen. I only eat fresh fish. Frozen just seem yucky to me. I know it's not - but I have so much great fresh seafood available that I just don't eat the frozen stuff.

I've sprinkled a bit of chili powder on the fish an broiled less than 10 mins.

Brushed garlic butter on it an broiled the fish.

Lemon juice more broiled fish.

8 or 10 crushed ritz crackers
about a cup of sharp cheddar cheese shredded
sprinkle of salt an pepper, garlic powder an
onion salt. sprinkle over fish cover with foil an bake

I am not a fan of tilapia at all. I think the texture is kind of weird and there is almost no flavor at all. Personally, I would just give the kids cod. To me, that is the basic white fish. It has a decent flavor and a nice texture but isn't fishy enough that kids will object. Here in New England you find it on most restaurant menus a "scrod" rather than cod.

Personally I think tilapia tastes mostly of mud, but lots of people like it, so take that for what it's worth. I'd prefer mahi-mahi or flounder as a "beginner" fish. (I don't really care for frozen fish, either, but where I live right now there isn't much besides catfish or trout that is available fresh.)

My simple way to cook frozen fish filets is so easy that my kids do it themselves. Mix half a bottle of fat-free italian salad dressing and 2 tblsp. of garlic powder in a ziploc and add the frozen fish. Once it has thawed, put it in a shallow baking pan and put it under the broiler on low for 10 minutes. Done deal. I usually serve it with rice pilaf when I make it this way.

PS: I've been told that soaking tilapia in buttermilk for an hour before cooking will take away the muddiness.
