We are going on the 26th of December Wonder. I paid for my son to go, who will have just turned 1 year, so all we paid were port charges ($113 or so).

Will i get penalized if we dont bring him? We have had offers from family's members to watch him, and i am just curious if disney will penalize me to take him off the reservation (i know i will lose the $113, but will they penalize me any more?).

Figured i could get the answer here easier than my travel agent :-))

THANKS!

You certainly can't lose More than what should have been paid to start with.......BUT....... As a Travel Agent, I would tell you that the only person you should be asking is YOUR agent. What Disneybob or Donaldsue paid a year ago may be entirely different than what you would have to pay this year. At this point, the only information you need is what is going to happen to YOUR reservation. I wouldn't waste any time. You are currently at around the 30 day point, the amount could change tomorrow.

According to the Cruise Brochure:

59-30 days prior to vacation commencement date, $100 per Guest
29-15 days prior to vacation commencement date, $300 per Guest
14-8 days prior to vacation commencement date, 50% of vacation price per Guest
7 days or less prior to vacation commencement date, no refund

The very last line states:
Please note that changes made to overall party size may result in a change to the rate.

I would call DCL and inquire personally, explaining your situation and see what they say - you might just get a very nice CM who will overlook the small fee. If you have to pay a penalty it looks like in your case the 14-8 days prior is the cheapest route to go - at least it seems that way reading it. I'd call.

DCL insituted a NEW service fee on 9/12 for SAIL DATE changes.
The non-refundable service fee is $50 per guest regardless of age. However, since you're not changing the sailing date I'm not sure that would apply.

They MAY charge you the current non-refundable service fee of $35 (up from $25) which applies for document reissue, air changes and name changes beginning 30 days prior to vacation.

Have your TA check to be sure, that is what they are there for. :)

Michelle - bemily is talking about a 1 year old for which only port charges/gov. fees/tax was paid - $113. She has already accepted not getting that refunded and was asking about being penalized in addition to that. If a guest in a party simply does not show up to cruise (especially an infant!) I have never heard of any penalty being imposed beyond the loss of what was already paid. Am I wrong about this?????

Taswira, I know this is off-topic, but I loved reading your trip reports! The photos of your Mom, both in the life vest and without, are great! :D

Thanks! She's not bad for 80! Still does the parks with me also, albeit rather slowly. She's already talking about cruising DCL again.

Sorry - No more off-topic. I can be reached via PM.

I don't think she will be charged either, taswira, but I wouldn't want to say so for sure without verifying it with DCL. :)

I agree, Michelle. However, there is no way that DCL could charge more for a guest to NOT cruise than they would for that guest to cruise. In other words, if you don't show up, you "forfeit" what you have already paid. If they tried to make a no-show pay more than the entire cost of the cruise itself, I think they would be out of business!

But when it comes to cancellations and the prorated rate on full fares (NOT infants), that is when one would obviously want to check DCL's most current policy and what they might be REFUNDED, minus the penalty.
