Will I be Herding Cats Again?* **** COMPLETED *****

I love the Disney Ticket idea. Where did you find the template or did you make it yourself. Thanks in advance.

I'm glad you like it! No, I did not make it myself! :rotfl2: I'm very craft-challenged! There was a thread on the DISigners forum. I will try to find it and post it. :goodvibes

Look at me...rolling right along....I thought I would only have 2 or so more installments, but they are so short, it's ending up being more....

Day 6 - Magic Kingdom
Part 8 - More Camera Catastrophe

Things are REALLY fuzzy after Pirates...no notes and very few pictures (oh yeah...and 5 months) will do that to a girl! Funny how that happens...:rolleyes1

Sooooo.....I'm gonna wing it and I might possibly even make stuff up! LOL!

BUT.....So I don't lose my readers, I might just have to insert some pics from our last trip to fill in the gaps. Hope no one minds....

After we came out of the POTC gift shop, we noticed the rope being set up for the Pirate Tutorial. We managed to get all 3 kids up towards the front, but once again Michael was not interested in being selected and didn't want to run the chance that he might get picked even without raising his hand. So he scooted towards the back, behind my MIL.

On our Thanksgiving trip last year, Michael was selected to participate, and he was the last kid up, so he was the one who actually got to fight Jack Sparrow. He seemed to really enjoy it and he talked about it for a long time.

Oh, what a difference a year makes.

Here he is last year:

Disney2007_001311-1.jpg

PB180057.jpg

Disney2007_001312.jpg

But, back to 2008....This year was a totally different story...he completely shyed away. Emily, on the other hand, was right up front…eagerly watching Mack.

PA130526.jpg

When Mack introduced Capt. Sparrow, I looked around trying to see where Capt. Jack actually came from. I found him, sneaking up around to my left and snapped this picture.

PA130527.jpg

You can see him through the crowd coming down the steps. I couldn't tell if it was going to be the really super-duper dead-on immensely good-looking Capt. Jack that we had seen last November, but I was hoping....

PA130528.jpg

Eh, he was a pretty good substitute for Johnny Depp, but not NEARLY as good as the one we had seen last year.

We settled in for another good show. Well, most of us...Michael was cowering behind everyone and even took off his Jack Sparrow hat. :confused3 He REALLY did not want to be chosen this time. :confused3

It was right about now that my camera battery died. :headache:

Yep.

That would be the last picture you will see of our trip. :sad2:

I was really spoiled this trip with Shawn and his camera, that I didn’t pay nearly as close attention as I should have to my own camera and whether or not the card was getting full or the battery was dying. Another live and learn moment. Ugh. :sad1: My parents by this point had been spoiled too and were only lugging around the video camera on this day. The video camera that I can’t figure out how to upload the clips. Double ugh.

We watched a bulk of the show, Emily was not chosen by the way, and after a little bit, Katie was getting a little grumpy....ok...A LOT grumpy! :scared: I took her out of the crowd and told everyone that I would take Katie up towards the Aloha Isle and get some Dole Whips for anyone who wanted one. Thought I could find Katie some popcorn as well. So we left the rest of the group and went in search of the Dole Whip (or Dole Whip Float for me).

On our way to get the refreshments, Katie and I popped into the store right there (Agrabah Bazaar, maybe?) and she spotted a Webkinz she just HAD to have! She spent her birthday money that her great-grandparents had sent to her before we left Virginia and bought her precious Webkinz (we have so many, I really don't have a clue which one was the one she got when we were at Disney...truly, they have taken over our house it seems).

Then we arrived at ......cue the music.....Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

07aloha-d2-1371.jpg

dolewhipfloat.jpg

My excitement was quickly dampened, when it dawned on me that taking Katie with me, with no stroller, to get 2 Dole Whip Floats for Mom and I, plus 2 things of popcorn at the stand next door for the kids, was probably not the best idea. There was no way on earth I could carry all of that. On top of everything else, my yummy Dole Whip Float was not made with cold pineapple juice...it was luke warm (yuck) so the ice cream was melting and dripping all over my hands. Nice and sticky....great!

We stopped at a place where I could put some stuff down and try to wipe my hands, and then I called my Mom on her cell phone (even though she was only right up the way still watching the show) and she came back to help me. Michael and Pop Pop were with her, so they helped too.

Really, this is the part of the day where, had we been at the start of our trip, or had there not been a party that night and we could have come back for evening entertainment...we would have left for a BREAK! Everyone was sort of hitting a wall....:crazy2:

But no...we were going to forge on ahead...this was our last day and we would be leaving around 5:00 for our dinner ADR, so we thought we should just carry on.

Emily, Grammy, and Shawn met back up with us after watching the rest of the Pirate Tutorial and after Katie and Emily argued over the popcorn since I had forgotten plastic bags with me that day in order to split up the snacks...ohhh....good times....good times....:guilty:

So I suggested they go for a ride on a Magic Carpet....

07aladdin-d2-1378.jpg

(not my picture...)

Phew....off they went.
MagicCarpets.jpg

(not my picture either...)

The grandmothers and the kids took a spin, while Shawn, Pop Pop and I meandered on over to the Jungle Cruise and grabbed a set of fastpasses for later.

After they got off we were off to ride Thunder Mountain with our fastpasses! That should shake all the grumpies off, right? :woohoo:

Fun update! There is nothing worse than a camera dying....except leaving one on a tram. Yeah, I did that and the bag had ALL of the rolls of films inside as well. Had our name, address and phone number but no one returned it. I would have been happy just to get the film back...well, no not really but still.......

Hi Sara! :wave2: I haven't commented in ages but I just read the last 7 installments or something.

Sci-Fi IS awesome isn't it?

LOVED the pix of the kids on the railing in an empty MK morning!

And I don't remember all the rest I had to say but I enjoyed all of the catching up I just did!!

MNSSHP dates came out, didya see? I could cry! Oh well. Maybe next year...

Oh, that's horrible! I can't even imagine! I can't believe someone would not have returned it - how awful! :sad2:

LOL Julia! Thanks for still sticking with me as I am dragging this thing out as long as possible I think. Maybe it's subconscious that I do this...drag it out I mean. I'm still ahead of my last trip report - took me until July to finish a Thanksgiving trip! :rolleyes1

Sara

Sorry about your camera at least it was the last day!!!!

Wow what a difference in Michael, maybe next year he'll be eager to join in again, kids are funny aren't they!!!!

Glad you got your Dole Whip, hope you managed to eat it in relative peace :rotfl:

How did I miss the last update? Where was I? :confused3

Anyway, sorry about the camera woes...but nice save using file photos! :lmao:

Sounds like you're in for the wildest ride in the wilderness with those kids, and I don't mean BTMRR either!!

Thanks Jo! It pains me to see Michael being so shy....I was always (still am) very shy, and it's one of those things you hope your kids DON'T inherit....oh well...maybe next year he will be back the other way....:confused3

I sort of drank my dole whip float, but with the juice being warm it just wasn't as refreshing as ones I've had before....it was still good though.

Day 6 - Magic Kingdom
Part 9 - ...Thunder, Jungle, and Space....Oh My!!!

A Mess of A Memory.....sorry.....this is really hard without pictures and without notes....I will do my best...don't desert me though pretty please....

After the magical spin on the carpets, the kids were in much better moods. Thank goodness. :woohoo: Off we went for our ride on Big Thunder. We cut through the little walkway right there behind the Carpets, and headed to BTMR! We walked in with our fastpasses and all the way through to the ramp at the end of the line right before you load. There is just something about that FP queue on Thunder that makes you feel even more special….all the empty walking space really makes you feel like the FP is worth its weight in gold (which we know it is)! :cloud9:

ThunderMtn.jpg

I don’t know if I mentioned it or not, but on the night of the MNSSHP, Katie rode Big Thunder with my Mom, and my Mom said she was so little she just flew around the seat and even though Katie loved it, my Mom thought maybe two grown-ups should sit with her this time, sort of like we did on Splash. You know…extra padding! :rolleyes1

So the plan was for my Mom and I to sit with Katie, Pop Pop to sit with Michael, Emily to ride with Grammy, and Shawn to ride solo (not that he had his camera to take any pics or anything….). HOWEVER, as we got to the end of the FP line, another big switcheroo was in place. Emily decided she wanted to ride with Grandmommy and Pop Pop, Michael wanted to ride with Shawn, which left me alone with Katie, and Grammy all by herself!!!!

OR Grammy and I could ride together with Katie.

Well, I don’t know if you can tell from the pictures (ha), but Grammy and I are both not little people. The two of us sat in the seat just fine but once we included a 4 year old little girl, it was tight. :crowded: But Katie was fine with it, so off we went. We held on to our hats and our glasses for our wildest ride in the wilderness! :yay:

Thunder2.jpg

This ride was indeed wild I gotta tell ya! But oh so fun! My step-dad (much to my very big surprise) actually held the video camera out the whole time (he is usually too scared of dropping it to do that) and got it all on video which is hilarious!

I was trying with all my might to pull myself as far over to the left side of the car to give Katie enough room as sometimes we would squish her to the point where I felt she wasn’t even sitting anymore…yikes. It probably didn't help that Grammy was putting her arms up in the air. Ok...fun for you, Grammy, but the child is getting totally smooshed!

But it was fine. Probably more my nerves than anything else. She was safe and sound and not moving anywhere that’s for sure. But for some reason this ride was much more bumpy than normal. Again, maybe it was just my nerves…making me feel that it was bumpier. As soon as we came to the end of the ride, you can hear on the video both girls yelling AGAIN!! AGAIN!!! It was a lot of fun!

Thunder.jpg

After our fun ride on Thunder Mountain, we made our way back over to the Jungle Cruise for our fantastic ride through a make-believe jungle. I had not been on the Jungle Cruise since I was little, so I was really looking forward to it…Bring on the corny jokes!!!

This ride is just such a Disney classic and really…the set is quite beautiful. I would have preferred riding this at night, as I hear that the “wildlife” is more authentic looking, but I knew we wouldn’t have a chance due to the MNSSHP that night, so it was now or never.

JungleCruise.jpg

We zoomed on through with our fastpasses and boarded our boat to meet our skipper. Now, for the life of me, I cannot remember his name, but he was very corny, and therefore…very appropriately cast as a Jungle Cruise skipper. :thumbsup2 The kids were all laughing at the jokes (the ones that didn’t go over their heads), and the grandparents were also very much entertained. Overall, a very fun and relaxing little cruise.

6.jpg

06a20228.jpg

06a20240.jpg

We did get hung up at the end trying to unload and the skipper had to chit-chat with everyone about what they were all doing later on that day. He would be working at the party he said. Of course, once he mentioned the party, the kids all asked if we could go to the party again that night. Oh how I wish kids…how I wish….:sad1:

tikis.jpg

After we disembarked, we decided to head towards Liberty Square for some lovely Hall of Presidents "action"!

07hall-d3-409.jpg

07hall-d3-417.jpg

Surprise, surprise, when we got there the kids weren’t too interested in hanging out for the next show, so we decided to split up for a bit. My parents were going to hang out there and catch the HoP, and the rest of us were going to head over to Tomorrowland for some Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear time! As we left the HoP, it was raining, and on top of that, Katie had fallen asleep in the stroller. Lovely! :headache:

We made it over to Tomorrowland without getting too drenched and Grammy volunteered to wait with the girls while Shawn and I took Michael over for a turn on Space Mountain.

I had not been on this since I was 12, but I was excited to try it once again! Michael wanted to sit up front, and I snagged the middle seat, so Shawn was stuck in the back. Hehehe….:rolleyes1

Off we went. I loved it like I was 12 again!

07space-d1-460.jpg

The thrills, the hills, the fast drops that come without warning, all of it! Loved it! Laughed and screamed through the whole thing! And totally kept my eyes closed! LOL!

I was a little worried at first about Michael, but quickly got over it when he pointed out that he had ridden it last November as well as on the party night. But man…those kids look small in their own little seat with no one to hold on to them! At least I thought he did. :guilty:

Shawn didn’t quite love it as much this go-around. It really whipped him around being in the back seat of the back rocketship! Oops. Sorry hon’! :flower3:

We got off the ride and the rain was REALLY coming down now. After a quick bathroom break, I decided to take Michael and Emily to the Carousel of Progress! None of us have been on this before, so I was really looking forward to it. Shawn took the opportunity to go sit down with his mom over by the TTA area with the sleeping Katie as the rain fell down around them!

Coming up….It's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow - the song that got stuck in my head for the next 2 hours! And the shyness monster strikes again…..

Yay Sara! Great update even with the stock photos :goodvibes Sounds like you were all having a blast! Poor Katie getting squished - but i'm sure you were much more concerned about it than she was! :)

Great update. I would think Katie would have been squished even with 2 other children in those BTMRR seats. But I think it is jerky for little ones like her so if she couldn't move then it was probably a good thing. Jungle Cruise is fun too, it's exactly the same as when I was 6. I love your picture on SM, very cool. Also a ride that whips you around, glad they refurbishing it finally. That stinks about the rain, but sounds like you had a great day at MK overall.

Girl, even without pictures your posts are still rockin'! :goodvibes I love your rendition of the BTMRR bumpy ride - and I think you're right about it just being your nervousness. I noticed on our adult trip that all of the rides seemed so much smoother - but then realized that it was not having to worry about the little ones that made it seem so much more calm.

I'm liking the stock photos too! Now if I could get Shawn to photoshop us in the pictures....I'd have something for the scrapbook :rolleyes1 (I say that as if I'm actually doing a scrapbook, but I digress....)

Katie DID look a little thinner when we got off the ride! :rotfl:

I think it was mostly because me and MIL are not teeny tiny. I rode it on our Thanksgiving trip with my brother and Emily (my brother is very thin) and we were fine....cozy, but ok. I just felt bad that it seemed she was being pushed up towards the bar awfully hard on the bumpy parts. Probably better than flying around in the seat though, right?

I like that SM picture too! I was gonna tell Shawn to try and replicate that with our own camera in May, but sadly....no Space. :sad1: That's ok...I agree it could use a little refurb.

The rain wasn't too bad....we were indoors for most of it! :goodvibes

Isn't that funny? I noticed that on our girls weekend in December...I was like "hey, Thunder Mountain is so much smoother than it was in October...hmmm....:rolleyes1 could it be not having to worry about a squirmy 4 year old being plopped out of the ride vehicle?

Sara, I must say that you have SUCH brave kids, going on all of those thrill rides! :cool1: The first time I went on Space Mountain, it was my family's very first trip to WDW and I was almost 9. I had been hearing about this ride called Space Mountain, and I convinced my father (who broke his back when he was 19, and has inner ear problems to boot) to go on it with me. I had NO idea it wa a roller coaster! Suffice it to say that it scared the stuffing out of me, and I have not been on it since. My father didn't really learn his lesson, though, because when my family went to WDW this past November, he thought he'd try out a little ride called Expedition Everest...:rolleyes1

Hey Sara! All caught up again. I'm loving the updates even without your pictures! You write so descriptive that you don't even need them! :goodvibes

I can't believe the lack of crowds on Columbus Day! I may have to rethink my rule of not going that weekend.

Love the Photopass pics with Captain Hook!

Too bad you didn't buy the ride picture from Splash Mountain. I've had that exact same regret many times. I still wish I would have gotten one from our girls trip - I think one of the Everest ones would have been fun.

Sorry about the grumpiness in the afternoon but it seems like it was short-lived.

I rediscovered Jungle Cruise last year after not riding since I was a kid either. Now it is a must do when we are at Magic Kingdom. So corny and fun - just a classic!

Oh no! Did he do ok? That's a doozy compared to Space!

It's funny when I was younger and rode Space Mountain, the rumor I had heard from everyone was that it went straight down!!! :rotfl: Cracks me up now whenever I think about that! I mean, Thunder Mountain even goes faster than Space!!!

Thanks Michelle! You don't realize how much you rely on your pictures until you don't have any for a portion of the day (or a whole trip, like someone I know....:sad1: ).

This particular Columbus Day Monday was extraordinarily low crowds! I really couldn't believe it either. It had to do A LOT with the party that night, I think. I guess a lot of people who wanted to start their vacations off with the MK on a Monday (like people always predict and therefore recommend staying away from), decided to do the party -as I heard that the party on that night was very crowded! :confused3 The day was fabulous!!!

Thanks for getting caught up! I'm almost done, can you believe it? :woohoo:

Day 6 - Magic Kingdom
Part 10 - "A Great Big Beautiful" Day at Disney!

When I last left off, my parents were visiting the Hall of Presidents....

5.jpg

....my MIL was resting under the TTA/Astro Orbiter overhang while Katie slept in the stroller and Shawn was joining her after riding Space Mountain with Michael and myself!

Michael, Emily and I were headed over to check out the Carousel of Progress for the first time!

cop3.jpg

We dodged and weaved our way over the rain puddles that were gathering and jogged up the ramp to get inside the theater. When we walked in it smelled a bit old and musty, but I guess that's unavoidable when you think about an indoor theater filled day after day with sweaty and/or wet-from-the-rain WDW visitors, week after week, month after month, year after year....yep...a tad bit smelly. :scared:

The kids were oblibious to the odor and went right up front to sit down.

The show started and I immediately thought of my good friend, Michelle (mkluvsmickey) and how much she and her daughter really love this attraction.

It was actually the only reason I was trying it out.

Well that, and the rain....but I TOTALLY would have checked in out anyway...yeah, yeah, that's the ticket....:rolleyes1

HOWEVER, I do have to say, all kidding aside, after having now been to it, ..... I LOVED IT!!! Such classic Walt! I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about Father, Mother, Uncle Orville, daughter Judy, son Jimmy, Grandma, Grandpa, and ever faithful dog Rover. We loved how we got to "progress" through time to see how electricity has changed our lives. I love how in the first scene the mother tells us excitedly...it now only takes 5 hours to do a load of laundry! LOL!

cop7.jpg

cop5.jpg

I do have to say that it is showing its age just a bit though and could use a little update. We got stuck at one point (I think between the first act and the second act) and the announcer came on telling us to just stay in our seats, the theater would be moving again soon.

Michael and Emily seemed to really enjoy the "progress" and it kept their attention, which kind of surprised me...considering all the technology in video games, tv, computers, etc, etc....I thought they might be a bit desensitized to the somewhat archaic animatronics.

After the delay, we finished watching the final acts and exited the theater to find it still drizzly. So, I took Michael and Emily over for a spin on Buzz! The wait time was only listed at 10 minutes, but we had fastpasses to use anyway, so use them we did! :cool1:

Totally walking on the ride, the kids decided they wanted to sit together, leaving their poor old mommy to sit all by herself! :sad1: I pretty much just spun myself around, while still humming the Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow song.... as I can't shoot those dang laser guns at all. Michael and Emily had a lot of fun FINALLY getting to ride something in their own car! I listened to them giggle and enjoyed every second of it. :cloud9:

buzz4.jpg

buzz8.jpg

As we left Buzz and headed back to the others, the rain had stopped. But I noticed that Grammy was sitting all alone. Apparently, while we were inside, Katie woke up, so Shawn took her for a spin on Buzz using the very short standby line (I had all the fastpasses with me so he wasn't able to use the final two). When he came out, he offered to take his Mom for one last ride on Buzz with the 2 remaining fastpasses I had.

The kids and I took that time to give my parents a call and see if they made it out of the Hall of Presidents alive! LOL! They enjoyed it, but now that they have been on it, there would "be no reason to go watch it again" in her words! Guess it just wasn't that exciting! Don't get me wrong, they love history, and they enjoyed all the little tidbits that I mentioned for them to pay attention to, but it's now "checked off the list" in her mind. They were now shopping on Main St, so that's where we decided to head to next.

After Shawn and his mom emerged from Buzz, we made our way towards Main St. I offered to just keep the girls with me so that Shawn and Michael could go looking for a couple of things. Grammy wanted to find a couple of souveniers to bring home to her hubby and my parents were looking for a few things to bring back to our co-workers in the office.

Since maneuvering the stroller through the stores was proving to be difficult, I offered to get the girls ice cream cones and thought we would just sit down at one of those tables with the umbrellas and wait.

07mainice-d2-1323.jpg

We got in line and in short order we were ordering our ice cream....chocolate for both of them, and Mint Chocolate Chip for me.

07mainice-d2-896.jpg

While we were waiting, a family of two teenagers and their parents were waiting. The teenage girl ordered a triple scoop of ice cream in a cone  and as she turned to leave the parlor, she totally dropped it all over the floor. Ugh. The people came out to start to clean it up and the Disney CM made her another cone. She seemed sorry for it, but in a kind-of teenage apathetic way. Her parents seemed aggravated and also a little "un"-embarassed. (I mean if it were a child I might expect the CM to make another cone, but a teenager...I would have been like "sorry, hon, you should have been more careful". I don't know, but they just seemed unaffected by the whole thing).

In another minute or so, the Disney CM handed her another triple-dip cone and as she turned to leave, she dropped it AGAIN!!!!! :scared1: The whole family just left this time, without saying a word. Left the mess on the floor, didn't say anything to the CMs about it...just left....The lady behind the counter, sort of rolled her eyes and told her co-worker that "she dropped another one". And they got out the mop AGAIN!

Anyway, my girls got their ice creams in bowls, thank goodness. :rotfl:

Of course, this, by no means, meant they actually stayed CLEAN!!!! :sad2: Oh no!!!

Remember those cute white peasant shirts with the cute embroidered Minnie Mouse sewn on? :rolleyes1

Yep....covered in chocolate ice cream....big, giant, brown globs of chocolate ice cream! Oh well...no big deal...they enjoyed the ice cream immensely and after they were through we snuck over to one of the side streets (where they do the silhouettes and where the band usually comes out from) and changed them into solid orange shirts that just happened to match their cute polka-dot pants.

(I have to tell you that that, my friends, was just dumb luck. I had been carrying those same orange shirts in my bag for the whole trip just in case they needed to change for whatever reason, and it just so happened that they needed them on the same day that the shirts actually matched what they were wearing!)

As I was changing them, the Main St Philharmonic came out of their backstage area and started walking past us to go out to Main St and entertain!

msband.jpg

The girls jumped back in the stroller and I decided to head down to the end of Main St to see about getting my girls some Mickey ears at Le Chapeau!

Up next....The shyness monster strikes again.....and we leave the Magic Kingdom for the last time this trip....

Enjoyed your update Sara. COP is always a good choice if it's raining or if everything else has long lines. My family told once was enough for that one though. My kids love riding Buzz & TSM together too! I have never been to HOP :guilty:. I guess because it's 30 minutes long and probably not fun like Lion King or Beauty & the beast. Too many other things to do in MK I guess. Your mom crossing it off the list confirmed I won't be going in May either , thought maybe Kaylee would like to see it. The teenager with the ice cream, seriously WTH is with that?? I guess with the girls getting chocolate ice cream on their shirts it's good to have a washer/ dryer in your house :thumbsup2. Good thing for extra shirts. I will definitely be packing some in our bag in May. Once I had to buy Thomas another shirt because the day he got messy I forgot to pack it. I can't believe your trip report is almost finsihed :sad2:.

Just got caught up! :goodvibes Great update, even without pics. I love reading your posts :cutie: I am trying to decide if I am going to do a TR from our Adult trip or not.....:confused3
