Will I be Herding Cats Again?* **** COMPLETED *****

AWWW.
I'm sorry about the hat and camera lense

Lucky for warrentys!
Thanks! I was glad we had the warranty as well, especially since we NEVER buy them! :confused3

Hey Sara! I haven't been on here in like a week! It was nice to have some updates to read while I'm sick. It really sounds like a great day so far!! Sorry about Shawn's camera, but at least it's covered and it was the last day AND he got those fabulous pictures that morning. We've never been on the Indy cars and it's been years since we've done Minnie and Mickey's houses. I love your close up pictures of the kids! Those are cute. The ones we have eachother in December, not so much! I look forward to hearing the end of this wonderful story! Sorry I've been MIA.:)

Thanks Monica... I hope you are feeling better soon! Watch those tissues...I hear Megan likes to pre-fill them! :lmao:

Yeah, we have quite a few of those up-the-nose or double-chin photos from December! :scared1: Not attractive!

I hope to have the next part up soon! Dang kids' birthday parties occupying all of my lunch time (when I usually try to post what I've written)...:headache:

Sara

Of course it makes sense that Mickey's house is so blah...how many bachelors do you know who are good decorators?

Sorry about the camera lens. We have had so many bad things happen to us regarding pictures, film, cameras, etc., that we decided somebody put a curse on us at the wedding!

Very good point about the male decorator....hmmm...you would think Minnie would help her man out though...:rolleyes1

Day 6 - Magic Kingdom
Part 7 - The forgotten picture

We rode the lovely train around to the front of the park and then on to Frontierland. The kids all opened up their fanny packs and had a snack plus a little drink:

Surprisingly as we sat at the Main St train station around 11:00 I did not see streams and streams of people entering the park. Nor did Main St. look that busy. :confused3 I knew this was supposed to be a good day for the MK (despite the Monday and the holiday, I follow TGM and he was spot on as usual). (Keep in mind that I really have very little to compare as our last big trip was Thanksgiving week! Everything looks un-crowded compared to then! LOL!)

After seeing that even by 11:00 the park was great crowd-wise, I felt a little guilty for keeping everyone moving fairly quickly that morning. :guilty:

Eh, I got over it. We had gotten a lot done and everyone was having a good time...so pish-posh, I'm not feeling guilty!

We made it to Frontierland and took a look at the two mountains. Splash Mountain had a 5 minute posted wait, Thunder had a 20 minute wait. Shawn went to get FPs for Thunder and when he came back we all jumped in line for our zip-a-dee-doo-dah trip to the brer patch.

If I remember correctly, there was a bunch of back and forth between who was sitting with who, and in the end....I was all ALONE! The nerve! Emily wanted front row, so she sat up there with Grammy, my mom and step-dad sat in the 2nd row with Katie in the middle, and Shawn and Michael sat in the back, leaving me in the 3rd row all by my lonesome! But it worked out for me, because I was able to sit in the middle of the row when we hit the big drop and because of this, I pretty much avoided getting wet.

And now to bore you with the really bad pictures that I took since I was the only one with a camera:

Up the first hill:

My lame attempt at an up-the-big-hill picture. Shawn got a much better one last year...oh well...
PA130524.jpg

And here we go.....(check out Grammy ducking behind Emily to not get wet! )
PA130525.jpg

When we got off the ride, we went to check out our ride photo and it was hilarious. Grammy had completely ducked behind Emily, and Katie's face was as cute as ever. So, did I buy the picture? Noooooo!!!! Did I redneck it? Noooooo!!!!

Ugh! I'm so upset about this now . I mean, geez...we bought the ride picture from the party night and it had 2 strangers in it for pete's sake! This picture was entirely our group! What was I thinking? Oh well - lesson learned! :sad2:

As we finished up riding Splash, we took our time strolling around Frontierland before heading over to another must-do....Pirates of the Caribbean! As we were rounding the corner from Frontierland into Adventureland I asked if anyone was hungry for lunch as it was around 11:45 and I knew if we wanted to eat, we should do it then. Well, big shocker....no one was even remotely hungry yet. We knew we had a 5:30 ADR for dinner that night so I think we had resigned ourselves to just snacking through the afternoon. Always sounds like a good idea, right? :rolleyes1

Next up, a visit with my favorite pirate! Yeah, buddy....off to Pirates we went! On the way we saw a lonely little photopass photographer standing by a wall....hmmm....let's put him to work!

image353.jpg

Now, on to Pirates! I mean seriously, a robotic Johnny Depp is better than no Johnny Depp!! I believe the wait time was posted at 15 minutes, but I don't think we waited more than 5 or 10 - it wasn't long. The ride was great as usual; my girls pretty much enjoy trying to find all the animals in the ride!

On our way out, we did some shopping and Michael got a Jack Sparrow hat and some kind of gun and then proceeded to get his pictures taken again! :woohoo:

Ok, more later....I can't keep my eyes open!

Yay! Great update Sara. Your pictures aren't bad at all!

i finally know why i had no idea who Jen's pictures of Brer Rabbit and Brer Bear were... i've never ridden Splash Mountain. :confused3

Do I dare admit that my beloved UG may have screwed up that week? :lmao: Maybe we should have done MK on Columbus Day like you did instead of Epcot. You really scored on the low crowds that morning and short waits! Maybe I'll break loose and try TGM this year, since I know nothing about Dec. crowds.

Your pictures turned out great on Splash Mountain!

what is your opinion on TGM? I was looking into it recently and was wondering if is it worth the money to get it and if it works?

I know you're not asking me but I'll tell you my opinion! LOL

TGM ROCKS!!!! I used his tips for our first trip last year and we had a fantastic time. Very little wait time and we got to see and do alot. It most definitely works!

I can't believe how low the crowds were on Columbus day :confused3, it wasn't like that in 2007. It was very busy. I love the pictures of some of my favorite rides in MK. The ones of Michael fighting Captain Hook are very cute!

Thanks Sare! I had never been on Splash until this last trip either! :confused3 Just never interested in getting wet, I guess. I felt the need to enjoy it with my kids though...and boy was it worth it! So much fun! :woohoo:

Thanks for the compliments on the pics - you are kind. ;)

In answer to both of your questions regarding TGM....I highly recommend it. I have the UG and I like it too, plus I love any kind of guidebooks on Disney, especially with pictures....LOL, but TGM is a very reliable and resourceful site.

For me, it breaks down like this:

* $20 is a drop in the bucket when you consider how much a Disney trip might cost, plus you can get a refund if you don't use it, so what's the harm?

* We like a tour plan that is flexible so we can make easy changes and TGM is all about this. He is NOT commando. He believes in a total "resort" experience and you will see that in almost all of his touring plans.

* He not only tells you "what" you should ride and "when", he tells you the "why" - which is MUCH more helpful than just a straight touring plan, IMO. (I didn't realize how helpful until 15 minutes into our first day on our Thanksgiving trip with 16 people...yup....15 minutes...:sad2: ) Things always come up that will derail your plans, TGM helps you figure out what to do when that happens (not if, WHEN).

* The man is in the parks almost EVERYDAY! He monitors the trends, the crowds, the days, the seasons, the events a lot more closely than other places and can therefore offer the best advice, IMO. Yes, his site can be out of date regarding a thing here or there, but the bulk of that information is not what makes or breaks your trip...it's the thought behind the strategy.

* The forums! Amazing! Helpful! Kind! Enough said. :grouphug: Check 'em out!!!

* TGM is like a book that's been posted onto a web-site, so at times it can be a bit long-winded. I found it easiest (when I first joined) to print stuff out and read it as if it WERE a book. It may take a while to read and absorb all the info. It can be hard to navigate at first (or overwhelming might be a better word)....sometimes articles are not updated as quickly as you would hope being an online resource, BUT it has an underlying philosophy that is explained in great detail to enable you to be your own tour guide...changing plans on the fly to adjust to the situation in the park and your family's tendency to go off in random directions to screw up your plans. (Yes, I speak from experience...:rolleyes1 )

* If you like step by step touring plans, then TGM is probably not for you. If you want to read, learn the strategy, visit nice, friendly, and very helpful forums to learn even more, than TGM might be for you. It's a "one-voice" kind of thing for me....sure you might be able to find a lot of the same info on other sites, but you would have to dig/search/etc to find it, and then when you did...you would have 6 pages of opinions to field through... Having said that I have still found stuff on TGM that I never see on the DIS, UG, Allears, etc....

* I think using too many different "strategies" can be overwhelming. I stick with his and it has not failed me yet. Only problems we have ever had have been when we go against his advice....

* It's not for everyone. I know people who do not use TGM and have a fabulous time, but for me....I won't go without it ever again. :goodvibes

That was long-winded...sorry! :flower3:

I was pleasantly surprised too, Nichole! After seeing the crowds on Saturday (which I knew would be bad, per TGM), I was expecting the crowds to also be bad for Monday (even though he said they wouldn't...why do I doubt him, LOL).

Having a party that night might have been a big portion of it though...was there a party the year before on Columbus Day night? :confused3

I love your Spash photos, you were very brave taking one on the way down and how funny that your MIL hid behind Katie :rotfl: Pity you didn't get the photo but there's always next time, I wish they'd add itto the photopass!

Love the Pirate photos, we did those and they're so funny :thumbsup2

Ok, more later....I can't keep my eyes open!

Isn't it funny how it takes so long to write an installment and post all the pix, and then when you go back to read, it just takes only a minute to get through it?!

I love the Capt. Hook pictures; especially the one with Michael showing off his new gear! Perhaps he thought they made him a better swordsman!

:cheer2: TGM!! Isn't he wonderful?

Oh, how I would love it if they would add all the ride photos to photopass! Work on that for me, Moms Panel girl, K?

Is that your nice way of saying that was a super-short installment, Kathy? JK! Yes, it's kind of sad how long it takes to do an installment.....maybe everyone should start reading really slowly for me....you know...make me feel better! :sad2:

Love, love, love that TGM!

So do you always use TGM's 1st choice of green parks? Thinking of crowds makes me think I need to move some stuff around. I just can't imagine making the kids wait until Monday to go to a park if we arrive Saturday late afternoon :confused3 what do you think? I have to go look over the best days again.

I just found your trip report today and read the whole thing!

Pop-pop dancing at 1900 Park Fare was just too adorable.

And I am dying to know how that guy carried his 64 waters! (And what he did with them? Were they all for him and he drank a bunch and then poured the rest of the water all over himself? Did he have 63 friends? Did he have 32 friends that all needed 2 waters each? It's killing me!)

Not always FIRST choice green, but we really tried to stay green the whole trip (except for Saturday at the MK, but that was Katie's bday and we were only there for the BBB and Spectro.)

So, Sunday you were planning on doing what again? (I can't go back to your pre-trip now that I'm in a "reply") - I will go back and look and then comment.

I think you will be fine if your parks are green or even yellow - because you know what to do to work around all of that. Then again, knowing how much you hate crowds, if it IS switchable without too much hassle...might be worth looking into, especially for a shorter trip!

Thanks Mom! ;)

Hi Kimberly! Thanks for reading! :yay:

That moment between Pop Pop and Katie at her birthday dinner was one of my favorites!

I have NO idea about that guy and the 64 bottles!!! It was so bizarre! I kept scanning the crowd looking for him, but never saw him again! Very strange! :confused3 :rotfl2:

I love the Disney Ticket idea. Where did you find the template or did you make it yourself. Thanks in advance.
