Will I be able to allow my 9YO to charge with magic band? I would like him to be able to, but I heard that there might be a minimum age.

Thanks!

I don't think you can allow a 9 y/o to charge, it was not an option for my 9 y/o dd. The system asked me for a PIN for my 12 y/o but not for my 9 y/o.

I am here with 10 yo DGrD and they allowed me to put charging on her band. It has been great for letting her go get water bottles and snacks - and I think it is good practice for her. I'm only here with 1 so it's easy to make sure she always has the band with her - and we use the sliders to make sure it is held in place and doesn't come off.

That's sort of what I am thinking. Let him use it for snacks and drinks, as well as for making purchases with his money. It'll be easier to apply his gift cards to our room account and have him use the band than to keep track of the cards. It's not the end of the world if he can't. My 12YO daughter will be able to if he can't.

I wonder if 10 might be the cut off age, since Disney officially considers that age 'adult'. ;) Hope they will do it for you if you request it.

I hope so too, but no big deal if they don't. He will be one month short of 10, but I'm happy to delay paying adult prices!!

We had to request for my DD7 to be able to charge. My kids wanted to take turns "paying" for meals. I had to ask at the resort desk and they made hers so she could charge. She asked me if I was sure I wanted to let her have charging on her band. I said absolutely. She would never be anywhere without a parent so I really didn't have to worry about her going on a shopping spree. There were a few times that she went to pay for our meal and our server would say that her band wouldn't be able to charge. I would just let them know we put charging privileges on it and they let her pay. My kids both thought they were big stuff being able to do that.

That's just what I was hoping to hear!!

I've always asked at the front desk when we check in to have my DD set up with the ability to charge, and she's been doing so since she was 9. Even though she's 16 now, I still need to have them set it up when we arrive at the resort. They've never given me the option in advance to set it up, but have never denied us at check-in.

Since it's just the 2 of us, it's always been easy for me monitor the situation and she LOVED handing over her card for every meal and purchase during our trips. Now that she's older and has her own bank card it's not very exciting, but I still usually just let her make the purchases with her MB (she seems to line it up better than I do lol)

No minimum age. They won't automatically set it up but you can ask to set him up with charging ability. He has to know the PIN to use it.

I was wondering the same thing, thanks all for the information. I wish I could put a set charge limit on the bands, but they wont allow that.

We are still debating just getting them gift cards for their money.

Thanks for all of the responses, everyone! I also wish I could set limits, but my son is nothing if not a math wiz! He will probably find it fun to keep track of how much he has spent and how much he has left. And because I will be with him, I'm not too worried that he will go crazy! He had charging priiviledges on our last cruise and was very responsible with them. My daughter will be turning 12 on the trip and she is an uber-responsible kid, so I have no worries about her! They will both probably have a fair amount of their own spending money as we will be there over half of Hanukah, Christmas, my DD's birthday, and just before my DS's birthday! All they've asked for for all of the above so far are Disney gift cards!!

We gave DS 7 charging privileges this trip.

You can get a printout at the front desk that lists what was spent by each band.

He "paid" for most everything. We set the pin to something he could easily remember.

I agree. I have had the same experience. Just ask at the front desk and you should be good to go.

The boy was doing multiplication and division in his head before he started kindergarten, so I'm not at all worried about him remembering a PIN! ;)

I told him last night that it looks like he will be able to have charging priviledges and he's pretty stoked! He collects vinylmations and loves technology, so being able to pay for them with his band will be way cool!:cool1:

So, I checked us in last week and I was able to give him (9YO DS) charging priviledges at online check-in. Yesterday, I checked in our friendsand it did not give that option for their 8YO daughter. So, my conclusion is that the cutoff is 9. I told my friend to request it when they get to the hotel if it is important to them. I hope this info helps someone!

I'm hoping to give dd charging rights on our next trip. She'll be 9. I'm looking forward to it while we are at the pool and she wants a snack or water. If we are in Epcot and she wants a treat from the shop. This way I'm not getting up every 5 minutes.
