Will DVC ever get rid of VB??????

Well, it looks like I got plenty of thoughts regarding VB ownership!! I am curious who is correct about the percentage sold out--is the 60% or closer to 96%??? Is there a way to find out for sure? Once it is sold out, what does this mean (other than you can only purchase points through re-sale????) Thank you for all the input everyone.

We bought at VB because we like to go there in March during spring training and needed the 11 month window. We have no problem with the 7 month window at WDW because of the time of year we go there.

Wordzlady, what teams train nearby, do you know? We don't own at Vero Beach, but it would be fun to be there during Spring Training. Do you know if it's really hard to get in in the 7 month window during Spring Training, if we're not picky about rooms?

I called two weeks ago and got a studio for 2 nights next week so can go to some Spring Training games.

The land Disney owned in Cal. (Newport) was developed as a Marriott Resort. We took them up on a 3 night trial stay (not free) and loved it. Too bad it wasn't a DVC. We probably would have added again. We live and breath the VB area LOL and have close ties to the area, but I do have to admit Richyams is right that it wasn't what Disney had in mind in the business sense but a complete failure and 60% sold; that is way off. After seeing the plans in detail with what they had in store across the street, we are glad it is a "failure"


My only gripes are they need to get some better suds on tap in the GreenCabinRoom and monitor the locals from using the pool area. The gate system doesn't always work.

If I see any locals at the pool in May, I'll rough them up for ya and I'm taking my camera so I'll make sure to get pictures of me doing that and include them in my trip report.

Is there a way to tell who is local and who is not? Is it a big problem there?

I second better suds in the Green Cabin room.

The L.A. Dodgers train (facilty) in VB.If you are not to picky for rooms(Inn,studio,1BR) you shouldn't have a problem getting in during spring training.

As for VB lasting the next 39 years, I think it will be there for the duration of DVC. The only thing that woud change that is a "Hurricane".

I do agree with Rich that you will "never" see another DVC resort off WDW property.

Hopefully this thread will scare away "potential VB owners" so we won't have any problems booking the "Beach Cottage" when we want it.

RE: Gate crashers.

1) Watch for people coming off the beach with non-disney issued pool towels.

2) Watch for people that hover around the gate,searching their pockets/beach bag,etc for their key. Eventually a member will open the gate and they'll catch it before it recloses.

I think the Vero Beach option helps sell WDW DVC resorts, many people don't want to go to WDW every vacation, they like other options, Vero provides another option and thus contributes to the sales of other resorts by presenting a more well rounded time share package.

We love our Vero vacations. I'm glad they are not building villas on the other side of A1A, I'd hate to get stuck on the non-beach side.

I once saw the plans for the non-beach sidde on teh internet, but I haven't been able to find the site. I was surprised that they were not adding an additional pool.

Vero's great. If you don't like the resort, don't visit. But one poster may have a point in that if it is between HH and VB, HH may go first, Vero offers a nice WDW and Beach vacation alternative.

RoutemanDan There were blueprints for more Villas around the lake and surrounding area. When they used to have the receptions in the beach cottage, they would sometimes bring out the plans. Imho it would have made the facilities a lot more crowded especially the pool area.

Maybe the reason they don't have good beer there is because there are no restrooms by the Green Cabin. I always thought that strange. How many bars have you ever been to that don't have restrooms? Ironically the beachside cottages have the same dilemma, no restrooms on the main level with the kitchen, living room and dining room. In my opinion that is the only "failure" of Vero that concerns me. I love the place!

Well, here we go. For the uninitiated, there are individuals on this forum who have a long history of vero beach bashing, and I guess a thread like this opens the door for those tired old refrains, with a little twist on the verse. Personally, I don't think there is ample justification to try to cause Vero Beach owner's concern... especially promoting conjecture and biased opinions and presenting them as supposed factual statements.

Vero owners, enjoy your wonderful vacations.....

I was just looking through the Public Offering material for Vero to see if I could find info on the original plans. I was surprised by a section in BOLD CAPITAL letters that said "recreational facilities may be expanded or added without consent of the Purchasers or the Association". It then went on to detail how they were not detailing recreational facilities beyond the current phase but could add additional elements later. My guess is that they would have built an additional pool area.

I can't lay my hands on the original material. The majority of the villas were actually going to be across A1A. One of the reasons I bought points was to be sure that I always stayed on the oceanside.

Captain Midnight, I wil defer to your excellent summary of this discussion. Vero Beach has been a DVC resort for over 7 years. There are many satisifed members who puchased at Vero and also use their points with little or no problem at WDW. People should understand the 11/7 month window but not be afraid of a Vero purchase.

For whatever reason, DVC did not go full force into the timeshare business by building resorts around the country/world. This would have required a major new commitment from Disney and put them in competition with major hoteliers like Marriott, Hilton, Four Seasons etc. off their home turf of WDW. I don't think that either HHI or VB were "failures", they may have been "tests". Who knows? With other areas of Disney not doing as well, maybe they will once again move into this area.

The "good news" about fewer offsite resorts is that we don't have that much competition for the WDW resorts. My original concern was that there would be OKW at WDW (no other on-site DVC had yet been mentioned), HHI, Vero, the CA property and others offsite to come. My guess was that more of the non-WDW folks would want to stay at WDW and it would have been difficult to make plans to stay at OKW, my original reason for purchasing. Instead, we've ended up with a multitude of options at WDW and a chance to get something, somewhere on-site with even very little notice.

Just to clarify, I was kind of joking around in my post, just expanding on getting better suds.

I get a little sad when people bash VB. I haven't seen much of that lately.

All they have to do is try VB once and they'll LOVE it. Of course if everyone wants to stay at WDW then we VB lovers will have the pool all to ourselves.

The soda thing is kinda strange-it's not like that in Shutters. It won't stop me from going there though.

Onsite WDW DVC locations are so unique, It's like comparing sales of apples to oranges. I think Disney knew VB sales would be a secondary market. It's a great oceanfront resort available to all of us and I dont see them taking it away. VB is also a promoted in Disney literature with the " Sand & Castle " vacation option. I dont recall ever seeing HH promoted in any vacation literature outside DVC. I think VB serves Disney beyond DVC.

I remember the original plans. What is happening w/that property now? I recall hearing that it was being sold to other developers for condos.

I have experienced those gate crashers walking off the beach--the four legged kind. A local dog got away from his owner and decided to check-in! He searched his pockets for the key, but I guess a good samaritan opened the pool gate for the pup. Chivalry is not dead.

P.S.- Pool crasher Pup and owner were happily reunited.
