Will DU cancel my ADRs if I cancel my ressie and rent points instead?

We are seriously considering attempting to use rented DVC points to stretch our dollar in December. We have already postponed a DU Swan ressie in favor of December at WL, which they are now holding a deposit on. Also, we passed on the covetted free-dining ressie when they got us a courtesy hold. I feel bad about changing around our ressie so much, but that's also what's so nice about having DU to help out.
In the end, we've looked at renting points. I don't want to take advantage of the great DU hospitality, but if we do rent, I don't want to change my ADRs (or worse, have to rebook since we'll be well inside 6 mos).
Will DU have an issue with us cancelling our ressie altogether with them, and letting us keep our existing ADRs?
Maybe this is a silly question, but I love the DU service and people there. I'd hate to have them cringe everytime they see me coming.

What do you think?
Thanks.

if the ADR are based on your reservation number not your phone number they will be cancelled.

since you didn't made them - but DU did - I am betting on reservation number.

Darn. So do you think an agent can request that they not be cancelled?

The point may be moot. December is by far THE most popular time for DVC members. There are already members reporting on the Boards that some of the weeks are completely sold out with waitlists. New members who aren't used to the December pattern are shocked that they can't get anything this far out. Experienced members know to book December 11 months out - we are well past that point. In addition, Wilderness Lodge is one of the smallest DVC resorts and the most popular at Christmas. I'm not saying it's totally impossible, but it is pretty unlikely that you will be able to rent points unless you find a member with an already confirmed reservation that just can't use it for some reason. You might want to check the dates before you get yourself stressed - certainly before you cancel anything.

Yes, this is something I was concerned about. I have seen one person posting for our dates at VWL and not getting help. I wonder how I could check dates without going through a lot of hassle for a member I may or may not rent from. I have other reservations about renting points, too.
I am one of those types who consider every angle, and the ADR issue is something that I was wondering about. So I just decided to post. Thanks for the heads-up on December.

If you have a budget issue, why not discuss it with DU? See what they might be able to work out for you. Keep in mind that there could still be discounts released for December that they may be able to work with. Also, don't forget that you can visit any of the resorts to absorb their holiday spirit. So if they find you a more reasonable deluxe or DVC alternative, you can still visit WL to dine and shop and enjoy the decorations.

Also, if budget is really an issue, don't be afraid to try a mod instead of a deluxe. I usually bounce around between deluxe, DVC, and mod, and they are all three great.

I'm sure you aren't the first, or last, person to make a lot of changes to their reservation. I would give DU a chance to find you the best deals first.

Thanks. Well, it's not that we must save the money. That would be very nice. Our priority is staying at WL. DH says this time he wants to stay deluxe at WL, and save up the $$ to make it happen, even if that meant postponing our trip. So that's fine. And I have every intention of letting DU work the magic. They've come through for us before on discounts. That's why we always use DU where possible. We will be return clients again, too. We've done POFQ, AKL, BWV, and S/D. The issue is that we have a toddler who eats 24 hrs per day and naps. So I thought that a studio or 1 BR villa could give us more amenities for the same or less money. Also, I ran the numbers. With points, a studio is the cheapest (by a LOT), no matter what discounts are offerred for that period. Next cheapest would be a discounted lodge room, and finally most expensive would be a 1BR on points or a non-discounted lodge room.

Still my original question remains unclear to me. If all the variables result in our changing to points, can DU request that our ADRs go unchanged if we cancel the cash reservation?

I would think only DU can answer your question, I will say that Mikesmom is correct, your chances of being able to rent something from DVC is very slim in December at this time.

I would think they would cancel, but check and make sure.

The pre-planning service (which includes ADR) is based on the agent having a booking that will earn her comission money when you travel. If you rent DVC, she earns nothing. The agent has then provided a service that she will not be paid for..

Not quite fair to ask someone to work for no money IMHO.

FWIW, I totally agree with mikesmom. I don't think you will even get a reply if you post a request on the DVC Rent/Trade Forum - unless it is from a newbie who doesn't know the system yet. There are currently waitlists for virtually all December dates at the VWL. There were recent reports of no availability at any DVC resort for the first week of December. (That surprised me - SSR is a very large resort)!

It's possible that someone already has a confirmed reservation for a December stay at the VWL that they plan to rent, but members cannot offer it on the DIS R/T Board until 6 months from arrival. IMHO, that's a long shot.

If it were me, I'd grab the December WL reservation while it's still available - those are popular, too.
