Will Disney cancel Alaska this summer??

Digging around on the Transport Canada website, there are some additional documents relative for cruise ships that have been posted in recent weeks:

This first one I think we all know about: Measures to Support Safe Cruise Travel in Canada - SSB No.: 18/2021 (modified February 18, 2022) https://tc.canada.ca/en/marine-tran...nada-ssb-no-18-2021-modified-february-18-2022
Canada’s cruise ship instructional reference tool ; date of update on the page is 2022-02-17; https://tc.canada.ca/en/initiatives...da-s-cruise-ship-instructional-reference-tool

Standards for the Development of a Ship-to-Shore Checklist Respecting Procedures at Ports ; date modified 2022-02-01; draft for consultation ; https://tc.canada.ca/en/initiatives...p-shore-checklist-respecting-procedures-ports

Finally, this is where the COVID-19 measures, updates, and guidance for marine transportation issued by Transport Canada are locations: https://tc.canada.ca/en/initiatives...marine-transportation-issued-transport-canada

I'm on the June 13th sailing this summer and they are indeed booking excursions that cross into the Yukon from Skagway. White Pass Railroad itself is also booking. I had planned to do a Chilkoot Charters tour, but they placed us on a wait list pending border crossing requirements. I was able to book a similar excursion directly through Disney however.
If they cannot cross the border I would expect a change to the excursion.

I agree. I just thought it was interesting that the cruise line and the big part of those tours are optimistic enough to book. Obviously, the risk you take in booking is that it might be canceled. On the White Pass Railway website it says, "The White Pass & Yukon Route is welcoming guests for the 2022 season. Reservations are being taken for tours to the White Pass Summit and beyond. Though travel to Canada remains restricted, we are working with our regional partners to see what steps can be taken to foster day travel across the border. We will be sharing border and operational updates with our guests booked for Canadian tours as we get closer to the start of the operating season."

Canada wants 100% vaccinated for ships to stop there in 2022 Alaska season

Considering Disney require anyone over 5 to be vaccinated anyway I don’t see the issue with it, although obviously disappointing to anyone with kids under 5 but it isnt clear Canada will include children too young to be vaccinated in the 100% figure but I certainly dont see it being something that stops Disneys Vancouver season

This. 100%

Agreed. I don't know if Canada clarified that under 5's will be exempt so if they are not exempt it could definitely affect families with young kids. Will have to wait and see.

Port of Seattle has released its 2022 preliminary cruise schedule; as expected, Disney Wonder is NOT on it, and the berths are full for many dates.

Thank you for sharing the Seattle schedule. I noticed that most Mondays (the day Disney sails) they only have one ship on there. So maybe there would be room for the Wonder? It will be interesting to see how it all plays out once Canada is more specific about their regulations.

Not sure why this would be a problem? Aren't vaccines for under 5s supposed to be approved soon? So then....?

Won't be in time for an under 5 to be fully vaxxed, its likely to be a 3 series vaccine for that age. Plus with how poor the vaccine is performing (14% effective against omicron) for 5-11 that may cause issues , who knows what will happen to that group.

Canada will not be cancelling cruising. There are also many more sailings on the east coast as Canada New England is also very popular.. I would think most booked for Alaska are fully vaccinated anyway and my cruise is almost sold out. Many Canadians and others also do the Alaskan cruises as well.

I was also gonna add that on the Hawaii saluting it seems half are Canadians anyways. And fully vaxxed.

We switched to Princess and they already have a hard line that no under 5s are allowed—only 5 and up and must be vaxxed. I am thinking Canada won’t feel pressure from cruise lines to allow under 5s because some of the major lines are already banning that group.

That is not the information on princesses site that was updated as of feb 28,2022.

We’re pleased to welcome children under 5 years-old effective March 1, 2022. Children under 5 years-old are not yet eligible for COVID-19 vaccines and will now be permitted to book without requiring an exemption.

So who knows what is going on right now.

Crystal clear. It's not like people have thousands and thousands of dollars tied up in these decisions.

Lol goes to show you how fast this is moving. We just booked it two weeks ago and at the time they were 100% clear that no kids under 5 allowed. I guess I'm 5 days behind on my news, which in Covid times is a century!
