Will Delta drop a flight if not filled?

I know its a few months away. But as of today there is only about 10 people booked for the entire plane. That I can see. Makes me wonder if they will either A. Bump us to another flight and cancel the other B. Keep the flight with only a few people? I just find it odd. I guess I am used to flying into Orlando with the flights packed with families.

They may drop or change routes if a particular flight is consistently undersold. However, under the current schedule the plane isn't needed just to fly the passengers on any one give leg, it's needed to fly passengers from the destination airport to somewhere else. So, unless they overhaul the schedule the aircraft itself probably needs to get to the destination as well.

That said, what you can see on the public Web sit as far as how many seats are sold doesn't really tell you much of anything. Also, most airlines can and do change their schedules on a regular basis so anything is possible if your flight is a few months away.

I'm curious and watching my Delta flights, too. I'm flying to MCO from MSP on a very popular day at what I'm guessing to be a very popular time. I'm surprised at how few seats are filled.

On the first leg of my flight, there has been an aircraft change to a much smaller plane. Still lots of open seats. Not sure what will happen on the second leg out of MSP. My guess is that at some point, after many other time and date options have been filled, there will be a huge price drop and there will be many happy people. That is, of course, that they didn't already change plans and choose another time/and or day.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Delta has alot of business passengers who don't tend to book until the last minute.

Delta does juggle their schedules alot, so keep an eye on it.

Your flight will fill up closer to flight date. Very unlikely they'll be a price drop for a popular flight (as another poster suggested).

As others have noted, Delta can adjust its schedule if a flight is consistently underperforming, but Delta does not cancel individual flights just because there are some unsold seats. If it makes you feel better, consider that the aircraft is needed for a departing flight at your arrival airport.

By the time you travel, your flight will probably be 80-100% full.

After you travel, please reply to this thread with your actual experience.
