Three degrees or even six degrees doesn't sound like much so it got me wondering what an ideal pool temperature would be. I found several posts on the subject but I found some interesting info here: http://www.asu.edu/studentaffairs/src/aquatics/pool_info.htm It's from the the Arizona State University's Student Recreation department. I found this info from the first paragraph in the section entitled "Pool Temperature" very interesting:Daitcher said:Pools were heated to 84 now 78, errrr I think that is 6 degrees, a huge difference.
Choosing the right temperature for a multi-use pool is a difficult task. Recreational swimmers and adaptive populations typically want the water at 84 degrees while active swimmers usually prefer it to be around 81 degrees and swim team users would like to see the temperature at 78.
What this says to me is that dropping the pool temperature just 3 degrees from 84 to 81 means I need to be swimming laps to find the pool comfortable. Dropping the temperature 6 degrees from 84 down to 78 and I need to really exert myself in the pool. Since I'm more of a bobber and paddler than a lap swimmer, I need all 6 of those extra few degrees to enjoy the pool.
