hi all. we will be staying at the villas at wilderness lodge for the first time in february. anyone care to tell me about it like most favorite or least favorite things about it. any pros or cons. thanks for sharing!!!

While I love the theming, my favorite thing is a little different. I love the music that you will hear in the background in the main lobby and the breezeway between the lodge and the villas. Nothing like the theme songs from great western movies like the "Magnificent Seven" and "How the West Was Won" to put you in the mood of the lodge. We stayed at the VWL last Christmas and while I love it at that time of year, I missed the western themed music.

Some of the other things I also like; the boat to the Magic Kingdom (but don't like it when the boat goes to Fort Wilderness first), the pools, the restaurants, particularly Whispering Canyon and the bike/running/walking trail over to Fort Wilderness.

Have fun, it's a great resort.

The mouse boats you can rent down on the dock. We had a blast there one afternoon!

I agree that the theming and music are probably the best thing going! I made a Villas at Wilderness Lodge CD for a few of my DVC friends here on the boards and everyone loved them!

Just walk around and soak in the ambiance. It's a beautiful resort!

Also, if you are going to the Magic Kingdom, be sure and jump on the ferry boat that comes in at the back of the resort. Very convenient!

Wilderness Lodge is really in a class by itself. You really feel like you are a million miles away in a mountain lodge, but the Magic Kingdom is right around the corner. You will love it.

Sunrise over Bay Lake. I like to grab an early morning coffee and head down to the boat launch to watch the sun come up over the trees across the lake. Beautiful, and a WL exclusive.

Curling up with a book on a rainy day in the Iron Spike Room.

And just soaking up the atmosphere. We love it at VWL (my husband was just telling me yesterday that it's his favorite DVC resort).

yup, the excitement is finally getting there - starting to really plan, pack, etc

This link has the various songs played in the background according to the All Ears peoples:

I have enough of the songs on a CD from Telark that I can get a VWL fix whenever I need it...ok, I just set the iPod to repeat the Magnificent Seven and visualize from my cube when the boss get's particulary managerial. :)

Its been argued that the WL is the best themed of all the WDW Resorts. We agree, and while the lodge rooms are a bit plain compared to say, the lobby, we think the villas are warm and cozy. YMMV.

I love the smell!

I love all the 'eye candy' at both WL and VWL-the small animal carvings, the totem poles, the stone fireplaces, the great nooks and crannies that are all around the place.

I love the EWP each night that goes right in front of us!

I love the Mercantile. I don't usually buy much there, but I love to look at all the great stuff they sell.

I love going into the lobby in the middle of the night and enjoying the ambiance.

I love the CM's costumes. They are great.

I love Whispering Canyon for a breakfast. And I enjoy listening to everyone having fun while I just sit in the lobby and people watch.

I love walking from WL to FW for lunch at Trail's End.

I could go on, but I won't bore you!

Cons? VWL is like having a baby. You never remember the bad!

OK, Who/what is Telark?? I want one too!!!!

If I were going to look at making my own WL CD, I'd get the list and then check out the $.99 on-line downloadable burnable to cd music services. Telarc (with a c...was too caffeine deprived earlier) is a "high fidelity" recording company. They have a number of 'pop' culture recordings of the Cincinnatti Orchesta...musical scores from movies and TV. They don't have all of the songs...just the ones you'd recognize immediately if you'd never been to WL.

Well. if you can handle being at the best resort on Disney property, than I guess you'll like it ok. :>)

I like everything muushark likes, and additionally, I like the fact that you can see the Electric Water Pageant from the dock area!

Absolutely, ask about being a flag family. It's the greatest thing. You get to go up to the roof with Ranger Stan and raise the flag in the morning. The view is absolutely incredible. My DH and I acutally got mixed up because we never got the call, so when we asked about it again, we found out that we missed the morning raising so we got to go up and take the flag down. Then you get a cretificate with your names on it.

Also love Whispering Canyon for any meal. It can be noisy, but it's lots of fun......and don't forget to ask for ketchup!!!

With you being from Lake George, you will love the Adirondack type theme! My father was an Adirondack guide when I grew up in upstate NY, and a visit to Wilderness Lodge brings me back to my visits to the beautiful Adirondack camps. You will love everything about the Lodge. Make sure to look at your family's mouths drop open when you walk through the front entrance to the lobby. I love to watch people walk in for the first time.

They offer a morning tour of the lodge. It's very interesting. Walk up to the different levels of the lodge and look down into the lobby. You can see the detail of the tepee light fixtures up close and personal.

We own at BWV and SSR but will only stay there when we can't get into VWL. My family's absolute favorite place to stay!
