We are staying at the Wilderness Lodge in the middle of July  We have a standard room. I was just curious how often they up-grade you to another type of room. We will be perfectly happy with a standard room....but just interested in everyone's luck with this.... :teeth:

I have been upgraded every time that I have gone, but I have never gone in july! Good luck. If they do not offer anything, then as the CM is checking you in you can casually ask if there are any complimentary upgrades. Of course ask ever so sweetly and be super nice and upbeat.

Two years ago we were automatically upgraded from standard to woods at WL. Two weeks ago, we were automatically upgraded from woodsview to courtyard view. We go to Disney every year, and it seems that we get an upgrade no matter which hotel we stay at. I have often wondered if Disney tends to do it for guests who travel there often, or if we just luck out. We do normally tend to go in November, where the crowds are low.

Last year we stayed at WL in July! We had booked a Standard room and when we checked in, without asking, we were upgraded to Courtyard view! We'd have been happy with standard, but a nice surprise to be upgraded!

Last March we were upgraded from a standard room to a courtyard view without asking. It was a nice surprise and a much better room!

On one trip to WL, we asked to upgrade from our woods view room and they upgraded us to courtyard view at no charge. (This was a trip in May.)

We were upgraded from standard to woods view in June 2003 without asking. I have to admit that when they told me, I felt like I'd won something!

A few years ago we were upgraded from standard to courtyard view without asking. Just stayed at WL again this Feb, but didn't receive any upgrades, but we were happy with our wood's view room. We overlooked the pool at VWL.

We just got back from our first trip to the WL and were upgraded from a standard view to a courtyard view without asking. It was wonderful.

Our first trip to Wilderness Lodge in June of 2003, we were upgraded from Woods view to Concierge Level. All I asked for was if we could have a room where we might be able to see the fireworks. Nice surprise! :flower:

Both times we went to WL we had a standard view and were upgraded. Once to a villas view and once to a fireworks view. :wizard:

jasminetogger-Wait a minute...you were ugraded from woods to concierge WITHOUT having to pay an additional fee? OMG...major pixie dust was pouring on you at that moment! I did not know they would ever do that! You must be extra sweet, or extra cute (or both!) :earsgirl: :earsgirl:

We did have to pay an extra fee, but it was only $25.00/night, so it was very well worth it! :flower:

JT-yes, that is definitely worth it! I have heard "rumors" of upgrades for a nominal fee...but never knew it really happened!

When checking into the AKL with a pool view room reserved, we were upgraded to savannah view. I felt like I was getting along well with the CM, so I casually mentioned upgrading to concierge for $50...that I had heard it had been done before. He acted like I had two heads! He said that never happens, it is impossible and he quoted me some exorbitant price if I wanted to upgrade to CL. So good to know it CAN happen!

wildernesslodgelover,

At the time you think you are getting a wonderful deal. But little do you know that they are sucking you in! :rotfl2: We went to WL last year and guess where DH just had to stay! We are heading back there in June and you guessed it, DH just has to stay concierge level. So I think Disney knows exactly what they are doing when they give those nice upgrades. So I guess I will just have to suffer and stay concierge since DH insists on it. :rotfl2:

I had booked a standard/smoking room. When I got there I was upgraded for free to a courtyard view on the 5th floor. I guess there were no standard room that were smoking rooms.

Yep, same here. Checked in at CR, had SVGW room and asked first if there were any complimentary upgrades....NOPE. Then, I asked about the concierge level and if we could a little something more per night and he scoffed at me and said I could pay the RACK ROOM RATE difference if I wanted concierge. :rotfl2: No thanks!! Needless to say, we spent our couple of days in the NGW, even though the CR was not even at 50% capacity. Oh well, we got what we paid for!

stingmom-Glad I am not the only one who asked that and was scoffed at!

JT-Yes, WDW is VERRRRY smart to do that! The only thing that concerns me about staying CL at WL is the solid balconies. DH and I are big on sitting on the balcony and drinking a glass of wine and people watching. I am rpetty sure that all CL rooms have solid balconies. Did it bother you at all?

I guess my point is...if I got CL for $25 it would not bother me. I would just hate to pay rack rate at WL for CL and get a solid balcony!

We booked a standard room room last July and were upgraded (for free) to a courtyard. It was lovely. This year we are booked for two rooms at POR but hope to switch to WL when AP rates come out. I wonder what our chances will be with two rooms?

We love WL and have stayed there 1/2 dozen times. Four of those were in a woods view room and we did not receive an upgrade. I inquired several times and once was offered a courtyard view with a patio, but we like to be up higher, so we turned it down. We've always had a wonderful stay there.
