Wilderness Lodge Room Request

Calling all WL experts! Me and DD age 4 will be headed to WL this next weekend. We've stayed at the VWL before but never at the resort itself. We get in early on Saturday, what type of room should we request?

Yes, I realize that I may not get anything special but I always ask! Thanks!

You don't say whether you have reservations and for what type of room. I have stayed at the WL over 25 times and if I could pick one room to stay in it would be room 5077 for a courtyard view. Woods view would be room 5032. I haven't stayed in a standard view room yet.

Room 5077 is in the "bears face" and has a great view of the courtyard and Bay Lake. It's also close to the elevators and overlooks the lobby. Noise could be a problem for some.

Room 5032 overlooks the "otter pond" and faces the MK. When I stayed in this room 3 or 4 years ago you could see the castle through the opening in the trees. You can also view the fireworks.

If you don't mind overlooking the villa's pool, you need to request an Inner Courtyard view to be able to see the main pool, geyser & lake.

Because you already have courtyard view booked, most of these rooms will have good views.
Where to request the room is depends upon what you are looking for.
Do you want to be close to the buses or the boats? (different wings for these)
Do you want to be close to the lobby?
Do you want to be close to the laundry or Roaring Forks?
Do you want higher up or closer to the ground?

So each room is best for the right reasons. Sorry I can't give you any other advice.

I hope this helps! I have a four-year-old, too, and we hope to make the trip together in the very near future (maybe this fall). The last time we stayed at the Wilderness Lodge with my sister, and my little girl was only two. It was August 2006! DH can never seem to find the time to go with us, so we have to go by ourselves, and it seems to make our room selection even more important.

I would definitely ask for a room in the Bear's Face. Those rooms are so amazing. Some people may complain about the noise from the lobby, but we couldn't hear it at all when our door was closed. We were in our room for naps during the day and to sleep early in the evening. We never heard a peep. And to me, to open your door and see the BREATHTAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL lobby below is beyond words. It was so special. It was every bit as special as seeing the courtyard, pool, and Bay Lake from our balcony. And that was pretty fantastic, too! We could even watch the Electrical Light Parade on the lake every evening from our balcony.

Every time I walked down one of the long corridors, I was so glad that I had requested a room right above the lobby! Our room was 5079. We were right next to the elevators, although all of these bear-face rooms are very close to the elevator.

Here's a list of the other great rooms:

5067, 5069, 5071, 5073, 5075, 5077, 5079 and
4067, 4069, 4071, 4073, 4075, 4077, 4079

We checked in early to get it (around 8 a.m.), and the lady said if we wanted one of those rooms that we couldn't get into it until after 4 p.m. That was okay with us. They stored our suitcases for us, and we went out to eat and explored Disney World. When we checked back at 3 p.m. (just in case!) our room was ready. And it was well worth the wait!!! The cast member who delivered our suitcases made mention several times of how nice our view was--and he was right.

I hope you are able to get a bear-face room. If not, my next choice would have been to have one of these rooms:

5035, 5037, 5039, 5041 and
4035, 4037, 4039, 4041

OR

5123, 5125, 5127, 5129 and
4123, 4125, 4127, 4129

These rooms do not look out over the lobby (inside the Lodge), but they do have balconies which offer a full frontal view of Bay Lake. Views of Bay Lake are among my favorite in all the World.

Any room will be nice, though. I would ask for floor 5 or 4. I enjoyed being close to an elevator, but it isn't a necessity. I just prefer not to walk down a long corridor past a lot of rooms when I have a toddler who likes to squeal.

OllieDanny&Me, I agree about the walk. We discovered that form our room if you walked away from the lobby direction and around a corner you were at the elevator that came out at Roaring Forks and the Guest Laundry. Right by the door to the pool and boat launch. It's a lovely resort and you took great pictures. We were last there in October '04 during a split stay with the Poly, we actually preferred WL to the Poly. We book WL frequently but always wind up changing to one of the other deluxes for some reason, mostly the fact that the rooms at WL are a bit smaller and our girls are now a bit older. We actually had it booked for our upcoming trip until DD13 decided to ask her BFF to join us, causing us to need a room with daybed.

And I seem to remember reading somewhere that none of the Bear-Face rooms are bunk bed rooms. The few rooms I saw with open doors were not bunk bed rooms either.

Well, here is the woods view room I got - I think it was room 1034:

This was the view looking left (I stepped out a few steps off the patio when I took this, but the view was basically the same). I was ground floor, directly next to the fence surrounding the loading dock/dumpster area. Awful, awful location. Looking straight was the otter pond, which was cute, but I rather had been higher up. Felt so claustrophobic in that room, like I was in the dungeon or something. Never felt comfortable on the patio so close to so much foot/truck traffic. Asked for another room, got the "nope sorry all booked up" line so I was stuck. Never warmed up to that room.

So yes - there are some very bad views at WL. Unfortunately someone has to stay in those rooms, and it's usually me!
