My understanding is that it is best NOT to just request a specific room. The problem is that if that room is already assigned (and this is likely), the room assigner doesn't know WHY you wanted that room. Was it because you honeymooned there, the view, non-smoking/smoking, 'something' to do with the location, the type of beds (2 beds, 1 king, or bunks) or maybe you just heard on the Internet that it was great. They don't have any idea what you want when they assign a different room to you.
If, when you make your reservation, you specify what you want in the way of smoking, location, beds, and view they'll know what it is you are looking for. You'll also want to list these in order of importance, as a room with ALL you want may not be available at that time.
