woogal said:Our Wonderful Disney Cruise: How I See it All Unfolding
An Essay
At 7 a.m., Dad awakes us, saying "WE ONLY HAVE 5 HOURS TO GET YOU THERE! GET UP!" even though it's only a 2-hour drive, tops. Ah, Dad yelling at get me up. Just like the old days. I sure hope he's forgotten about the turn-on-the-lights-in-the-bedroom-that'll-wake-your-a**-up trick.
As we travel towards Port Canaveral with Mom and Dad, we cross over the massive 1A bridge and behold the beauty of the Disney Magic. In the back seat, Bill and I become giddy and giggle like school children, making Dad gun it, just to get us the "heck" of out of the car. Hugs and good-byes, "have a nice trip", and we're off to check in.
As we go into the terminal, the fresh smell of alcohol and dead crawfish lingers. We know that Mike and Wendy have dutifully arrived before us.
So much to look at, so many to see ... we look for green shirts. We see one! We consult the cruisemate list ... is it? Yes! That's her! We grab that person from behind, whip her around, and realize that we have no idea who she is. The front of the shirt says, "Be sure to drink your Ovaltine." Drat! A crummy commercial! We apologize profusely to the frightened unidentified co-cruiser, making note to avoid her throughout the rest of the trip, and head towards the ship.
After the initial running around, eating, etc., we make our way to the Family Meet with regional gift in hand. I wonder how my tiara will look over my tuque? I think it will work.
Every member of the crew knows Kathy and Greg on a first-name basis. Jeff sits at the bar buying drinks for ... just about everyone at this point (Go Browns!). Steve thanks me again for Pat's makeover, Stephen curses me for it. Bob resigns himself to the fact that he cannot get the captain to change the ship's horn to the Dukes of Hazzard theme. From across the room, I see a vision ... yes, it's Dream Boat Wally. I run to get my hug, but find that I have to stand in line for my turn.
And that's just some of how I see it all unfolding.
That's awesome Shell
