Wild Africa Trek

Did this mid December, the weather was unseasonably cold, it's not cheap, but every member of the party agreed that it was the best part of the whole trip. The guides were very charming and knowledgable (the 8 year old girl in our group had a bit of a crush on both the glamourous Nicole and the handsome Davis!). The first tour of the park is great with the added knowledge of the guides, and if you do it at/before the park is opening you have loads of opportunity to see the animals. The "jungle trek" on foot was amazing, especially the aerial walkways - one of the participants in our group was very nervous and they were very gentle and encouragiug with her. You get to do the Kilimanjaro safari, but with lots of time and special stops for photos - it was a bit of a buzz seeing the normal safari trucks moving on while we were still there and taking pics. The guides also take pictures as well, and they came out really well.
The meal is served in a small building out on the savannah, where you can continue to view the animals. It is a light lunch and fussy eaters/those that don't like foreign food might be a little offput, but it is presented beautifully in little metal cans (nicer than it sounds) and you get a little bit of education about the food as well.

It was worth the money in my opinion (although I wouldn't pay more for it).

Our family loved it. The guides were knowledgable, the animals were active, and the food was great. It was really hot when we took the tour, but they gave us cold towels and kept us hydrated. I agree with the above poster that wished you could get the food in a restaurant. Fantastic!

It's worth it as long as you're not paying full price. Otherwise, we get closer to animals at our local zoo.

I love this tour. We did it and were very pleased with the value. The meal is hard to comment on. We loved it, but that is purely subjective. Definitely one of the best tours, imho.

They quoted me $201.29 p/p for mid-June. Do you think it makes a difference to take the first tour out in the morning?

We are going in October. So I am hoping for the low side for the ticket price. We decided to trim on the meals so we can afford to do this. I think this will be more cool thing to do then eat at fancy restaurants.

We specifically booked as early as we could to get the first tour of the day. It allowed us in the parks a couple minutes before everyone else (fun treat), and we were told that the animals would be more active at that time. While it may not be a necessity, I would book the first group of the day if it were available, IMO.

Our family of four LOVED it! We had the DVC discount and it was worth every penny. DH loved it so much that he wanted to do it again on our next trip.....I would've but I really wanted to see a different tour - - they're all so fantastic! Our kids still talk about it with regularity and it was 2 years ago.

The food was adventurous but sooooo good. I have an allergy and they specifically went over my needs at the beginning of the tour and served me everything that I could have. They were very thorough and so very kind; just super accommodating.

This sounds very cool. Does someone have a link for more information? I tried searching the WDW site and found nothing :rolleyes2

Has anyone gone midday or before lunch? I just booked for April at 11:45 and am concerned the animals won't be as active? Any thoughts? TIA!

We are planning to go that time of the day for the discount. I hope someone chimes in.

I did the 10:15 am tour, but it was in January and only in the 70s. The animals were all out and about. (Except the crocs. I'm not sure they are ever active.) We saw a lot of animals, especially giraffes.

DH and I did the 11:45 am tour in October 2013. It was amazing. It was the last week of the summer special which typically runs from late April to late October. The discount infor usually shows up pretty late on the Disney website.

In 2013 it was this: $50 off the price of your experience when you book a Wild Africa Trek for 11:45 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:15 p.m., 2:30 p.m. or 3:15 p.m., now through October 26, 2013.

Last year the dates ran from April 27 to October 25, 2014.

Thank you for the feedback. It is a good chunk of money, and I just want to make sure we're getting the bang for our buck! :)

We got the DVC discount for April 17th, so I cannot imagine how much it would be if we didn't have that.....:rolleyes1
