I'm planning on getting Wii Fit soon, since the kids got Wii from Santa. But I'm worried about one thing. Does it somehow "weigh" you? About 15 years ago, I had an eating disorder, as well as a dismorphic body image disorder (can't remember what it was called), and as a result of that, I absolutely cannot know what my weight is. When I go to the doctor, I am fine with them telling me that I've gained or lost a pound or two (or 22, like I did last year!!), but I do NOT want to know the number. I can't explain it, but it really does something to my head.

My kids don't know this about me, and I can't have some silly game bring back an eating disorder. Help, please!??!? If it *does* weigh you somehow, is there a way to NOT do that step?

yes it does weigh you but I think you can skip the actual number. I had to click on something else to get that

It does however tell you if you under/overwight/obese, whatever

I'm not sure. I know that it does weigh you. I don't think that you can actually enter your info so it remembers that it's you, without it weighing you.

it wont ever show you the actual number. you have to go out of your way to find that. i would say you are safe as long as you dont mind it telling you if you are overweight/underweight/healthy.

Just don't do the "body test" and it won't do the weight or the BMI. You can still play all the games, you just won't get your fit age or whatever. The little voice can also be a little mean on the body test when you gain and balloons your little Mii if you've gained a few pounds---but ONLY on the body test.

So---I would highly recommend that you skip the "body test" but get the Wii fit, because the games are fun! The "training" obviously needs to sense your weight so the sensors work, but it doesn't tell you.

It does weigh you and measures your progress against that weight. ALSO, it changes your Mii based on that weight... mine "plumped" out and DS7's got skinnier.

Personally, I wouldn't think the Wii Fit would be good for you.

Yep, It does but it does it to tell you your bmi like everyone said. on that same screen it will tell you you can click to see your weight, but you HAVE to click on it to see it.

If you use it, take it with a grain of salt. It can't tell if your weight gain was muscle or fat..if you're working out, it might be muscle. ya know?

You have to go though the body test to actually see your weight, it's a process to get to the weight it's not going to just pop up trust me if it did I would die.... :scared:

I keep hearing a lot about this Wii Fit. Can someone explain to me how it works? Is it simply an exercise routine (similar to popping in an aerobics video) or is it really a game... meaning FUN to do? :) :) :)

I was thinking of getting myself the Dance Revolution game for Wii because that sounds like fun exercise since I do like to dance, but I keep hearing so much about the Wii Fit that now I need to compare and make a choice :)

Thanks to anyone that can help! :)

Here is what I'd recommend -- have somebody else use the wii fit first. It will go through an intro sequence and weigh them (I might be wrong, but I think it needs to go thru this sequence when you turn it on for the first time). People are right that it doesn't automatically tell you the weight -- it tells you your BMI first and then you have to click on the screen to get your weight. BUT ... it could make you feel self-conscious if you hear your BMI ... or it could make you feel self-conscious to watch it put weight on your mii (it shows a picture of your mii really skinny and then puts some weight on it depending on how much you really weigh).

... plus if you are plus sized like me, it will say "that's obese" in a little wii voice :lmao: I about died the first time I heard it say that!!!! So rude!!!!

So ... the way around that is to let someone else set up a Mii and then use their mii every time you turn on the game. OR ... you could go thru the intro and put something on the scale when it wants to weigh you (like put a little of your weight on it with your foot or put your pet on it or something :lmao: ). Then, don't ever do the "body test" after that. Or just hold your breath and get through it (without clicking on the button to show your actual weight) and then after that, don't do the "body test". Just do all the other fun activities and games!

It's a bit hard to explain, but basically, there are two different components. First, there is the "body test" component where you get weighed and it checks your balance on the board. This lets you chart your weight/BMI/balance/wii fit age (sort of a bogus number it calculates based on how well you "balance" on the board -- kinda silly) over a long period of time -- really cool if you are trying to lose some weight as I am.

Then the second component (the more important one) is a collection of games and exercises that get you moving and stretching.

1. There are Yoga exercises to select from (fairly traditional Yoga poses -- it demonstrates them for you if you don't know how to do them, and also rates how well you do the pose based on how you're putting your weight on the board).

2. Strength training: these range from push-ups to leg lifts and all sorts of exercises I've never heard of. It works just like the yoga-- you can get a demonstration, and then you do the exercise with your "trainer" (you can choose a male or female) and it rates how well you do it.

3. Aerobics: these are really great for getting exercise -- they are mostly "games" that get you moving around. There is a hula hoop game that can be quite a workout, there is "rhythm boxing" that is sort of a cross between boxing (you punch with the wiimote) and a DDR dance-type game. There is a step game that is like a DDR dance game, but you are stepping and kicking in time to the music. There is a running "game" that I NEVER play because it's not really a game at all -- you put the wiimote in your pocket and "run" in place through a course. A lot of people like it, though -- I think it's just me who hates it ;) . There might be a couple more.

4. Balance games: these are a mixed bag. Basically, you are improving your "balance" (how well you distribute your weight on the board) by playing minigames like skiing, tightrope walking, etc. I don't really play them because I think the idea that we need to improve our "balance" to be physically fit is nonsense. But they are fairly entertaining.

There aren't really "routines" -- mostly, you just pick and choose among the games and exercises -- you can do them in whatever order or in whatever amount you like. I find that it really helps me get moving and get exercise (and this is from a died in the wool exercise hater) without it being a totally boring chore. Some of the games or exercises are more or less good at getting you to work up a sweat, though. It's hard to get a sustained, demanding workout. But for lazy folks like me, it is great. :thumbsup2
