OK - "Wife Swap" on ABC was slammed on these boards because Walt would never have a show such as this. People reacted to the title and thought the worse.

Guess what, it was a really wholesome show. Last nights show had two wife's switching families.

A millionaire with four nannys now had to move to the country and chop wood.

A mother who chopped wood now had to move to the big city and go shopping for $2500 worth of clothes.

In the end, each family learned some things.

The millionaire with four nannys wasn't spending enough time with her kids. Her husband didn't really learn much.

The husband of the wood chopper needed to help out more around the house. He also learned how much he missed his wife.

It wasn't at all what would come to mind with the title.

Not sure if the next shows will be as good - but it certainly wasn't what the title implies.

Give this show a chance.

I'm glad that there are some good points. I really don't think it's right to take a childs mother away for an extended period of time. I thought it was like 6 weeks. The upset boy in the commercials does not seem to be handling it well. Maybe he needs an attitude adjustment, but it still seems really unfair to the kids! JMHO

The first episode was over the weekend. The first two episodes have been interesting and entertaining. Yes, each family seems to have learned something that has made their post-swap family life a little bit better.........unless that is just a result of production and spin.

The show seems fairly harmless. The swap lasts two weeks and while it does cause some short term turmoil, everyone seems to come out ok in the end........unless that is just a result of production and spin.

Not sure how the show has done in the ratings, but I don't think it's going to break any records.

It really wasn't an extended period of time. Only ten days. I thought the show was well executed. It's a basic fish out of water type show. Pretty harmless.

Thanks fo clarifying. Don't know where i got the idea that it was a long time. Must be I've seen too many Fear Factor commercials!

I agree with the author. I negatively prejudged this show based on the title and was surprised to find it produced so well.

I can't figure out what the allure is - but I told my fiance that it may be how it exposes social prejudice.

It strikes everybody where they live.

Actually, on both of the spouse swap shows, the kids seem to get a lot out of their new "parent" and get upset when he or she leaves. There have been some really sweet connections.

I still like the other show better. I think it might be that there's no narrator telling you what's going on all the time. And also maybe that each swap spans two weeks, so you get more of an idea of how things went and there's some element of suspense. And the people aren't all so horribly unlikeable. ;)

I watched the first show and thought the whole thing rather strange - unsettling.

But how can you say that people aren't so horribly unlikeable? That one, uptight, neat-freak wife who put all the families' pets into a kennel was hated by the swapped family - especially that families' wife/mother!!! I think the family of the uptight woman got a taste of what life could be like with someone who encouraged their creativity, relaxed the rules a bit and made the house a home - and, just maybe, they werren't that thrilled with the prospect of the return of their own wife/mother.

Anyway, obviously it made me think - I just don't generally watch TV to be unsettled.

CHANGE THE TITLE !

I can't wait for this show to become an attraction at Disney/MGM Studies.

I watched some of it a couple of nights ago. It left me asking the question - "why in the world did the NY couple even have kids?" Just to have someone to leave their money to? Clearly, they have no interest in raising them or being part of their lives.

I loved the way the wood chopper mom put one of the nannies on the spot when she asked "do you think they are good parents?" You know she wanted to say, "no, they are horrible parents."

This show has been going in the UK now for 2 possibly 3 seasons now, and is very popular!

it's interesting to see the mixes in different people and social classes

The most interesing one shown here, was a women who had about 7 kids just to get benefits so she didn't have to work!

No, I meant the first show, the one on the other network. Trading Spouses. I think those people seem to at least make an effort to start things off civil and to learn something. But that show doesn't seem quite so intent on putting such completely different people together. Lifestyles, yes, but an ocd person in a dump? That's just pushing people to breaking points.
