Wi-FI quality on Delta.

I have a really stupid/odd question. We have a trip to WDW coming up in a few weeks and my DD's teacher just informed me that she's going to allow my kid to skip almost all the makeup work!!!!…. Except her math IXL that has to be done online with the internet. I was hoping to maybe do the homework while we are flying so we don't have to worry about it while we are in Disney, but I've never purchased the onboard Wi-Fi before. I would assume that the internet isn't streaming quality, but is it well enough to run basic websites?

I think so, but I've never used it (I've used their wifi to stream from the media player on the plane and I've used it for the Delta app, but internet). Keep in mind, wifi isn't available until they get above 10K feet.

Does your airport offer free wifi?

Thanks for the info!
Our home airport and connecting airport does have free wifi, but I'm not 100% sure we would have enough time to do all the online homework at the airport. Our one flight is 3 1/2 hours long so I was hoping the wifi would be good enough that we could finish if need be during that 3 1/2 hours.

I don't use it often, but I've had pretty good luck. Honestly if you can sit towards the front it seems to do better.

I fly a lot (all Delta) and use their WiFi constantly. Have a monthly GoGo subscription.

WiFi is mostly good, but you can occasionally have a flight where it just doesn’t want to work well at all. It’s rare, but it happens. You kind of know right away if it’ll be a ‘bad’ flight if it has trouble connecting at first. If it starts bad, it stays bad! :-)

Newer planes and/or ones with upgraded tech will sometimes offer two WiFi speed options when you sign in, different price points.

I generally like the service (and rely on it heavily), with some occasional gripes.

Happy to answer any questions.

Thanks for that info!! If you don’t mind, I do have a couple questions :) I’ve never bought internet in all the times I’ve flown so this is all new to me. I just pulled up my flights and one of them says high speed Wi-Fi available. Is that the different speed options you’re talking about? Can I purchase right there on delta.com or do I need a Gogo account?

I’m a Delta frequent flyer.. I would not plan on using the Wi-Fi. You might get lucky but probably it’s going to be horrible. They keep claiming they’re going to upgrade it but I haven’t seen the evidence that it’s happening

That sounds like the different/high speed option, although I’ve only seen it on a few flights. If you do have that option on your flight, I’d pay the extra, mainly “just in case.”

I’m a little unsure / don’t remember what it’s like to sign-in/pay... I’ve had the monthly GoGo account for awhile now. When I originally used it I remember I paid for it / signed up right there on the plane, I think?

Sorry!! I’m not quite sure the exact mechanics so I’m hesitant to give advice, although I think it’s relatively obvious once you’re there.

Delta does offer to pay for the WiFi in advance (I always see the ads on the app / website), but I’m not exactly sure how that works either.

Sorry again I’m not much help, hope it works out for you.

Probably not an issue for math, if the lesson has a lot of video content internet quality might be an issue. Text based lessons should work. See if you have a setting for low bandwidth .

BTW free airport wifi can be spoty

Thank you for all the input! We will try to finish it all at the airport and if we need to do some of the flight, I really hope our flight has good wi-fi. Thankfully the lessons don't have any video content so hopefully that will make it easier if the wi-fi isn't that impressive.

I log in in flight all the time. You just turn on WiFi and select the Delta/GoGo option. It should automatically open the log in browser but if not, open a browser. Follow the instructions and you’re in.

I typically have few issues but like some have said, you can get a plane without working equipment. My daughter has used it for homework as well with no issues. Good luck!
