Why would'nt Disney put two beds in all the studios?

One of the reasons I often pick SSR over OKW on my solo trips is the couch vs the second bed. I expect there are other owners like me too! So...

I also agree with Chuck S. The more "categories" you chop a resort up to the more issues you will have.

We prefer the studios with one bed and a sofa. It really opens up the room, making it feel much more spacious. I also prefer sitting on a couch when relaxing in the room rather than sitting on a bed. But we don't have kids and so nobody has to sleep on the sofa bed, though I hear the new ones are pretty comfortable.

Us, too.

because of the complaints about OKW.

so they went with one queen bed and sleeper sofa got less complaints and the room was smaller - which mean DVC could build more of them.

Marriott has a king bed and queen sleeper sofa in their studios.

but DVC went with more studios in less room.

think I agree - more of the studios have 2 or 3 people. a few do have 4 - families of 4.

but most have less.

for the OP - you can get 2 studios for the same amount of points (not cash from Disney) as a 1-bedroom at most of the DVC resorts.

so if you must have 2 beds that might be the route to take.

I must be the only one who disagrees about the comfort of the sleeper sofa. A few years ago my sister and I had stayed in an SSR studio in the Grandstand area. The building had just opened and we were the first to stay in the room. We opened that sleeper sofa and checked it out and fell into a fit of laughter. I can't imagine how anyone would be comfortable on such a thing. It didnt even have a mattress. It more like 3 long pads of foam stapled to a board - and that's exactly what it felt like. My sister and I spent the week sharing the queen bed.

Unfortunately, that is the type they put in OKW and my son didn't care for it either. He thought the one at the BCV was much more comfortable.

To the OP, should you decide to go with two studios instead of one- one bedroom, you should know that two studios will not connect to one another and they may be in different locations.

I'm glad they don't have 2 beds - that would look too much like a hotel room!

There are many people who don't travel with 3 other people. There are many people who when traveling with kids get a 1br (at least) so they have privacy & not have kids sharing their bedroom. There are many people - couples or solo who travel without kids. With a dvc membership lasting 50 years, it's safe to say nobody will be taking their kids on vacation *that* long, lol!

So, the 1 bed and sleep sofa is the ideal arrangement for me, and I'm glad that's what they have in the majority of the resorts. I can't help but think DVC learned this lesson after the first resort...that's why all others have just the 1 bed.

Since it is often my Mom & I traveling together, the two beds in OKW studios is great for us...but we do like the room of the OKW one bedroom units. Las month we were in a one bedroom with an old style sofa sleeper, and usually I've found them to be comfortable, more comfortable than the new flat foam style that they are being replaced with.

That said, the sofa sleeper was in need of replacement, and the thin inner-spring mattress on the original style sleeper had worn out. We have decided, since we usually drive to WDW, that when we are in a one bedroom unit we will take a queen sized air mattress to use o the sleeper sofas.

Oh oh!!! Something else to add to my Owner's Locker!

In my experience, the sleeper sofa at the Beach club was comfortable. We were recently at SSR, and the sleeper sofa was awful. I don't know if the SSR sofas were the old style, but they were not great.

DITTO! We have stayed in a studio at every WDW DVC resort and the sleeper at SSR in the Grandstand area (last building to open, thus the newest of them all) was horrible! It was so dang hard! It was hard to open and close as well.

With that being said, our trip prior to that one was at VWL and the sleeper was awesome! It had the coolest way of pulling it out and was very, very comfortable. You don't have to remove cushions or anything, just pull the little strap. Same at the BCV for the stay before VWL.

Not everyone that comes to WDW bring children. There are a lot of couples that use studios. Our main complaint about the studios at OKW and the inn rooms at VB are the two beds. While DW is working on the computer at the table, there is no room for me to sit, just lay on a bed. I wish some of the studios at OKW had a sleeper sofa.

We are kinda forced to take at least the one bedroom because the studio has only a double-size sleeper and it wont sleep my 2 boys. The studio's queen is okay for 2 but not the double. The double is good if your kids are small. My boys are 12 and 5'1 and my 15 y.o is 6' tall...:confused3 could ya just imagine :goodvibes

so there for we end up using almost double in pts. I have no doubt that that was also one of the reasons they did that in the studio, so we would use more pts causing our return to be less because it eats up our pts......they could at least have put in a queen size sleeper that would have been a nice thing to do for all.

We have a 1 bedroom booked at AKV Jambo House in the spring. My daughter will be using the sleeper sofa. Anyone have experiance with the AKV sleeper sofas?

Thanks,
Dennis-

We love the two queen beds at OKW. My kids (teens) hate to sleep on the sofa beds. They say they are uncomfortable---even the newer ones compared to the real beds. When we stay at our offsite timeshare, there are no studios so we always get a 2 bedroom villa. I think they are spoiled by this and look down upon the sofa sleepers. They are resort snobs I guess :rotfl:

But if I was alone or even just dh and myself, we would prefer the sofa over the two OKW beds. So it all depends on how many we have traveling with us. This is one of the reasons we purchased at AKV. At least my teens don't have to sleep together on the sofa bed. They each have their own pullout. And while not a "real" bed, they tolerate it much more.

We've never used the 2nd bed (OKW) or sleeper sofa in studios. I wish they had an option for a king bed in the studios although offering it only in a 1BR or larger is another incentive for a larger unit. As another posted, I wonder how many guests use just one bed.
Many other timeshares do better with studios than does DVC. For example, the Marriott studiods tend to have a king bed plus a queen sleeper. They also have plates and metal utensils. So it is doable but you would have to make the room slightly larger, likely a minimal of 1230-1250 sq ft for a 2 BR lockoff.
