Why would a small boat fly around the edge of the lake at Boardwalk?

We were watching a recent YT video by a vlogger at Boardwalk and a small boat flew around the edge of the lake at the Boardwalk. It really made no sense. Is there a specific reason or is it the driver was most likely goofing off?

i haven't seen the little scooter boats lately they used to rent at the Beach Club marina so it was either an old video or a small Whaller type boat the lifeguards drive around.

Agreed it's an old video pre-COVID when those boats were a rental option or it was the lake patrol CMs that go after the pontoon boats when they are entering restricted waterways or blocking the friendship boats.

What was the vlogger or do you have a link to the video? The only part of the description that makes me wonder is where you mention that the small boat 'flying around' the edge of the lake. The little boats you used to be able to rent would not likely merit the description of 'flying' by anyone's measure - they're quite slow. So that makes it seem more likely to be a CM boat - or possibly one of the specialty boat rides like the old Breathless wooden speedboat you used to be able to charter.

From what I saw on the video, it looked to be one of the smaller patrol boats. It zipped by along the perimeter of the Boardwalk, of Crescent Lake, at the time. Reason undetermined. (Regular patrol sweep, alligator sighting, report of someone into the water..). Unknown. Looked like any other patrol boat you would see at higher speed over in Seven Seas Lagoon area.

That one is definitely one of their staff boats usually doing patrol things - but honestly in that case I can't see that they were out looking for anything - it looked a little more like one of the CMs just enjoying a spirited run. No way you'd spot an alligator at that speed, or someone or something falling in the water. There were no Friendship boats in the area at the time, and this was after the miniboats had already been discontinued.

Besides watching out for guest pontoons, the lake patrol can respond quickly to medical emergencies at any dock. The coordinator of the friendships also has a fast boat they can use when they need to go quickly or push a friendship boat having mechanical issues.
