Why won't they update Star Tours?

Does anybody agree that Star Tours really needs an update? Is it just a rumour that there were clashes between George Lucas and Disney? Anybody know the real reason or if there are plans to update the ride?

I wish they would update it as well, also the Indiana Jones show could do with updating, I thought they would have when the new film was out

I agree though I do actually like the ride as it is also, and it does have a lot of character about it.
Problem is many rides could do with an update, especially as technology moves on or as Jen says new films are released.

I suppose the cost and practicality come into it - I have felt for a long time Disney need to do more on keeping their attractions up to date.
There are not enough new attractions.

You could argue that Muppet3d has been left way behind now by the likes of Shrek4d.

There are also many people that don't want some rides updated, for me not liking Star wars they can do what they like with it but I know people who are into Sar Wars who love the ride.
Back to the future is a great example for me, had AP's for past 5 years rode it numerous times and would every time the line was short. Now its Simpsons been on it once no interest in doing it again unless walk on and time to spare.
I think with Star Wars having such a massive fanbase they won't want to upset them, we were there for 2 SW weekends in May, they are obsessed.

It's a very old ride now, first went on it in California in 1989! still love it though.

cool - thanks for that guys - my hubby will be very excited. we're not returning for another 4 years as we now have a DD to intro (and save up!) for the magic. So it will be good to ride the new version then. thanks for the info

do you think that so many rides need updating because its a 365 day a year operation what ever they do will be wrong. i would like to see a proper wooden rollercoaster perhaps something like the oposit of epoct what entertainmant used to be like. but that wouldnt be disney.

I guess Disney are damned if they do, and damned if they don't.

For me the Muppet's hold great memories for me as it was the Sunday evening show the whole family used to watch together; it's not on the telly any more and I love going to see this show when I'm at Disney.

As a Star Wars fan I can't help thinking that Disney could do a lot more with the Star Tours attraction; given Star Wars popularity it seems a little half-hearted.

I used to love BTTF at Universal, though a lot of people used to say it was a bit too aggressive; I loved that it was a different ride wherever you sat in the car, plus I loved the films also. It's replacement The Simpson's I thought was very good, I love Homer's quips throughout. However, I'm not sure it has the 'return appeal' that BTTF had.

Great initial question, really got me thinking and brought back a few memories!

I think, and not trying to move away from topic, that many rides could do with a re-fit or replacing.
Tomorrowland for example at Magic Kingdom I just don't get anymore and just don't see enough top drawer attractions in this part of the park, many I am sure totally disagree.
Others stand the test of time better, Fantsayland will always be magical for kid's because Peter Pan, Snow White & Winnie The Pooh are 'timeless' attractions that don't need to be changed or updated.

Tomorrowland I personally feel suffers when it becomes 'todayland' and no longer a vision of the future. Even the restaurants there look jaded.

I have always enjoyed this ride and actually prefer the original movies so I guess there is a certain charm for me in that - the films went downhill when that misery Anakin came along (did he ever smile once!). so for me the original film memories are the best (don't get me started on Ja Ja Bincx or whatever he is called).

It still feels for me modern and enjoyable, I also don't feel ill after riding it like some other motion rides.
