It's not being politicized. I think you're really naive and uninformed if you don't think there's not a serious opioid crisis in this country. I dread going to work everyday because without a doubt 1 out 4 people I have to take care of is going to be a drug seeker. You have no idea to what extent people will go to to be admitted to the hospital to get drugs. It's sickening what we've allowed health care to become. A lot of people are on pain meds that don't need them. The withdrawals from getting off oxy are not much easier then getting off H. I'm glad someone in government has finally taken notice.
Walk 6 months in my shoes and you'll have something to teach your students about.

A lot of businesses no longer allow their employees to say Merry Christmas for fear that it will offend someone. I always found that silly, because it wouldn't offend me for someone of Jewish descent to say Happy Hanukkah to me, for example. I'd reply, "Happy Hanukkah to you", even though I'm not Jewish. Why shouldn't someone who celebrates Christmas be able to say Merry Christmas? It never ceases to amaze me what people can be offended by.



A couple of my sisters still have phones like that. They never want to text, because it's time consuming. They prefer to call & I hate to talk on the phone. I've been tempted to buy them a new phone.

I say Merry Christmas. Don't care fire me. Most people like it when you say Merry Christmas.

Adding Tramadol to the heavily restricted list is guaranteeing there's going to be a much bigger problem with people self medicating, which means more people will be buying illegal drugs. Anyone with any sense should know that Tramadol & Oxy, Percocet, etc. aren't even close to comparable. They're creating a crisis in this country that is much worse than what we had previously.

I also like it, when someone says Merry Christmas to me. It makes the season a little more special. That said, I'm also fine with someone wishing me Happy Hanukkah or any other holiday they celebrate. I really don't understand why the people that don't celebrate any particular religious or cultural holiday have a problem with those who do.

I get what you both are saying, but they had to draw the line somewhere. They couldn't make the law, "No alcohol within one hour before driving." People really aren't going to monitor them selves so closely. And the law couldn't do it by size & weight as there are other factors in which a person may react to alcohol faster. And people too small or thin would just fudge their size (in their head,) to make it okay to drink while driving.

A little OT maybe, but it reminds me of the hilarious time a few years ago when a DIS'er (who shall remain nameless) posted on the CB just outraged that a family-friendly site like this would have soft-porn and "dates for hire" ads on it. He slunk away pretty quick when posters started explaining that he was the only one seeing them - and why.

I swear I have never researched them or even talked about them on the phone lately.

I did watch a documentary last night about Right to Die laws (strictly out of curiosity) but it wasn’t on my phone.

I agree with you both. So put up something else from another culture. That would be cultural tolerance & allowing for diversity. Don't CHANGE a Christmas tree into something neutral.

I get my share of “helpful” ads for cosmetic surgery. And thanks to “Big Brother” I can always tell when my DH has been using the iPad. All the banner ads switch from travel and food related to new cars, golf and higher-end menswear.

there will always be idiots arguing they are not "intoxicated." They do that now, even though they are supposed to take a breathalyzer. They refuse to do the test. Then, later, when they are less drunk & have a lawyer, they claim they never were intoxicated. NOW, at least, there are some guideline. As imperfect as it is, (as stated, people find a way around it by taking a drink right before driving, it's better than letting drunk people make their own judgements.

I think it was in reaction, and not wanting to give up on having a tree at all. So, trees have been renamed, so at least we still get to have a tree in town squares.

Again, having a beer in the parking lot then getting in the car and going home is no different than having a beer while driving. I'm not talking about someone intoxicated. I'm talking about someone like PP who wants to have a beer while heading home.

But they aren't making them hard to get. They are making them impossible to get.

Case in point, my friend that has chronic, severe pain and was told that the government is limiting how many pills he may receive. The new limit is "one" oxy per day. Of course the script reads "one every 12 hours." But he can't get that many.

So his doctor says he should take 2 a day. His pain is bad enough to take two a day. But the government, politicians say that he can take one a day.

Laws like that don't solve any potential problem. Law like that create problems.

But it seems that lately "Holiday tree" has lost popularity around here. Why, even the biggies, The Rockefeller Center tree, and the White House tree are still called "Christmas tree". I don't remember having heard the term holiday tree this past Christmas season.

As my 23 years as a nurse I could count on one hand the number of times I've given Tramadol. I was surprised it was a controled substance....because who takes it? I totally agree with you. It's not just pain meds. It's benzos, antidepressants, pain meds etc. Can anyone get through life anymore without popping a pill to make it easier. It's very hard for Doctors because hospitals get reimbursed by patient satisfaction scores and addicts aren't happy unless their getting their Opioids. They always teach us pain is what the person says it is, but it's so easy to tell who's really in pain and who's not. I'm not saying some people don't need long term pain management they do, but there's just as many that like the high.
I have a brother who's had multiple back surgerys and actually has chronic pain. He's very successful in his career, Ivy league graduate, makes a lot of money and so on. He had a heck of time weening of the Oxycontin. He was physically addicted. It can really happen to anybody.
