So among all of the rumors is that DVC will be starting to sell at the Contemporary in August. "Supposedly" it will be higher points and no incentives. So why would I not just buy AKL, and try to get the Contemporary at the 7 month mark?

Many discussions about this, heck you can get SSR resale in the low 80's high 70's. I was excited about the possibility of the new resort too but if rumors are true about price and points I will just take chance at 7 months. If they have great incentives then I will probably buy in. The waiting continues!

That, actually, can be the same question asked of any of the DVC properties.

The answer, quite simply, appears over and over again: buy where you want to stay. Especially if you want to stay at tough-to-rent times.

Because, a 7 month window might not be enough time to get what you want during tough-to-rent times. Heck, sometimes the 11 month window is hard to secure a reservation.

So, if you want to stay at AKV, buy there. BWV, buy there. Contemporary? Buy there.

Buy where you will be spending the most time.

All the best . . .

I am going in September and plan to take my first official DVC tour. I turn 40 in January, and have wanted DVC for that presant for a couple of years. Hopefully by January 2009, I will have some more definate information!

I bought when I was 44. I'm 52 now. Loved every year of it thus far! :)

I hope you find what you want.

Just to expand a bit on the 'buy where you want to stay' philosophy....

If you own at CR and want to stay there, you can book at 11 months out and will only be competing with other CR owners for rooms. So it should be pretty easy to get what you want.

If you don't own at CR and want to stay there, you can only book at 7 months out. All that will be available are the leftover rooms that CR owners didn't book in the preceding 4 months. AND, most importantly, you'll be competing with DVC members from all of the resorts.

A DVC resort on the monorail is going to be VERY popular. I don't know how many villas will be there, but a heck of a lot of people are going to want to stay there, especially in the first few years that it's open. I think it's going to be tough to book for non-owners for the foreseeable future.

Well I agree, and I really do think it's where i would want to stay. I love the idea of being able to walk to the MK!!!! I'm hoping I can get a minimum package for under 20 k!!! Hopefully that will buy something at least!!

I turn 40 in January too! :cool1: Sorry, OT...

3 reasons:
1. Magic Kingdom
2. Monorail
3. 11 month window.

If you are a fan of the MK you will want to buy the Contemporary. If you are a fan of the Animal Kingdom buy AKV.

indeed purchase where you want to stay........but if you're not picky (like me) then go with more bang for the buck!!! ;)

I believe in buying where you want to stay, and Contemporary will have a lovely little thing called a monorail :lovestruc :lovestruc :yay: :yay:

While this means easy access to MK, it also means very easy access to our favorite restaurants-- Chef Mickey, 'Ohana, Kona, 1900 Park Fair (love Mary Poppins), the Neverland Club is nearby for a night of babysitting (can't use the one at AKV because they serve peanut butter and my son is allergic) . And there's that boat to WL for fun at Whispering Canyon . Hoop Dee Doo isn't even that hard to get to!!!

It's also nice to be able to walk back from MK!

The walkway from DVC to the hotel looks really cool too!!!!

We just stayed at AKV, and while I liked it, it's not somewhere I would want to stay very often.

I plan on adding on at the Contemporary, and have absolutely no interest in the AKV. We have stayed at both the Contemporary and the AKL. We love staying on the monorail, walking to the MK, boating on Bay Lake, riding the monorail to Epcot, resort hopping by monorail to all the other MK resorts, lying on the huge beach, watching wishes from your room's balcony, and being the first monorail stop after a busy night at the MK.

As much as we enjoyed our short stay to the AKL, it's not anywhere I would return to anytime soon. At the AKL, you get to see hoofstock, birds, and currently construction, from your balcony, and it takes forever to get anywhere by exhaust belching buses. No comparison, IMO. There's no beach, no lake, no monorail, no fireworks, no nearby resorts to get to easily, and no rooms with a view of the MK.

I think the big key will be if the MK view rooms are a separate category. Like boardwalk view at BWV, it will be difficult to get it at 7 months. I have a feeling it will be a feeding frenzy for the MK view rooms. With this new system, advance walking will be the norm to get it.

Maybe because I used to be dirty poor, I'm so thankful just for being a DVC member, any of their resorts are way better than the motels I used to stay at before.
I love ALV, it makes you feels like you are visiting another continent, far away from the busy touristy world. So it takes longer to get to the parks, but we have seen almost everything from our past trips I don't care if I missed hitting a ride or two, because I'm sure I will go back for them on my future trips in the next 40+ years.
Contemporary would be good for the commando type people who need to go go go their whole trip, those who use every EMH and who needs watch the fireworks every night.
And yes that means the whole BLT will be booked completely full the day 11-month mark hits.

<running for cover>

i've been on vacation;) (DL :thumbsup2 )out of the loop here

read re new ressie system + days

what is "advance walking"?

I will be taking my chances at the 7 month mark with AKV and CRV.

I want all my points in 1 place. I love them all....so I'll just keep rotating where I stay.:goodvibes

We have personally had trouble already getting into AKV just calling out 8-9 and 10 months out--and that's out home resort.
We've been members since Sept 07', and already are finding out...book your HOME Resort as soon as you can...then try and get into elsewhere at the 7mths out. I imagine if AKV is this tough, CRV will be even more difficult.

The AKV vs BLT is something we are contemplating right now. The current incentives at AKV are tempting and I'm trying to talk DH into getting 160 at AKV then another 160 at BLT when it goes on sale - especially now that the Aug announcement rumor is being replaced with a Sept or Oct announcement rumor.
