Why so little things with Mulan?

Just wondering what the rationale is...apparently she's not popular? My kids are Korean so I love that there's an Asian princess...but she doesn't appear to be in many places

you're right.
My daughter loved her too. It was a very good "girl power" type message in the movie as opposed to all the princess stuff - and you'd have thought that they would have done more with that .

When my daughter was four, Mulan was her absolute favorite. The costume she took to wear to Akershus breakfast was her fancy red and blue dress. Mulan spent a lot of time with her. She said that not many little girls dress up like her. She really did go the extra mile playing little games with her.

Mira has a Mulan costume that she loves...I'll have to remember to take it! The shoes are completely worn out though

We found her in Epcot outside of one of the stores in China. My DD was thrilled because she got to interact with her one on one. There she was all alone and my DD took dozens of pictures and spoke to her for about 15 minutes. It was wonderful! Keep an eye out for her there

I've seen Mulan several times at the China pavilion in Epcot. She's usually outside where the acrobats perform. I've seen her by herself and other times with Mushu, for photopass opportunities.

Mulan is also my DD's favorite. We were sad to see no merchandise for her. They had these little princess dolls in a box and a glass figurine and that was the extent of Mulan merchandise We did finally find a "barbie" size Mulan doll and a cup at our Disney Store.

I agree. IMO, Mulan and Mushu are infinitely more interesting than Lilo and Stitch (who Disney keeps trying to shove down my throat for some reason).

Both my daughters are Chinese by birth and I am really hoping they get to see Mulan at the Norway Princess Meal.

I love Mulan. She's my favorite, too. I'm hoping to see her at Akershus, and will definitely try to find her at the China pavilion, too. She's not technically a princess, though, is she? She is truly a heroine, though.

Yes, I agree, Disney should do more to promote "non-princesses" type female characters.

I collect pins and I hardly see any Mulan or Pocahantas pins. I have seen Mulan at Epcot, but since the show ended at AK, no Pocahantas anywhere.

Makes me wonder about next year's Princess and the Frog African princess. Will she too disappear if the film isn't as popular as High School Musical 14?

I have sons, but I prefer the non-princesses. It's never made sense to me the "every woman is a princess" theme. It really limits the marketing they can do. Hence, not much mulan stuff.

Mulan is DD's fave too. We took her to the breakfast in Norway and Mulan was AMAZING!!! DD had tears in her eye she was so excited and Mulan spent pleanty of time with her talking and gave lots of hugs! we were very disappointed that we could only find much Mulan merchandise.

I am blessed that 2 of my lovely daughters are also adopted from China!! We had a great time with Mulan in China last year. First just Mushu was outside and we took a pic with him. The CM that was Mushu's "handler" told us to sit right there and wait and in about 10 minutes Mulan would be out to see us, along with Mushu again. So, we waited and sure enough she came out to us like we were long lost friends. The handler told Mulan as they were approaching us "Now here are the friends I told you were waiting for you." Mulan knelt down and gave my littlest one a kiss on her cheek leaving a lipstick kiss...my 2nd daughter told her "no thank you" when she tried to do it to her after she saw what it looked like. LOL

Also, on the way over to us Mulan had a crowd following her, but the CM kept telling them they had to wait their turn because some special people were waiting for her.

It was a great memory and I'm thankful the CM told her we were waiting. It meant the world to us...but you are right, she is not around Disney enough.

Mulan is in a bit of an odd position from Disney marketing's point of view. She's no a literal princess at either the beginning or the end of the film. She spends more time disguised as a man than she does wearing a pretty dress, which Disney tends to push as a big selling point of their princess merchandise. She battle marauding Huns instead of going to the ball. The first scenes of the movie are largely devoted to showing that she's not very good at doing proper girly things.

Still, I do wish Disney would do more with her and some of the other non-princess Disney ladies. It's perfectly fine that some girls love the standard princesses and their beautiful dresses and their particular stories, but not every girl is into that and I can't see why Disney wouldn't want to promote role models for all kinds of little girls if they can make a buck in the process. Among others, I'd love to see more attention paid to Jane from "Tarzan" who does actually wear a pretty dress through roughly half her scenes in the movie (though DH finds her later outfits much hotter. )

Aside from that, it would be nice to see a little more diversity in the "princess" lineup. Jasmine is generically Middle Eastern, but all the other current princesses are Caucasian. Again, I can't see why Disney wouldn't want to push characters like Mulan and Pocahontas (who, as the daughter of a chieftain, is an actual princess) in their Princess lines, if only so more little girls can have a princess who looks like them. I'm hoping the release of "The Princess and the Frog" will aid Disney in figuring this out, but who knows?

Personally, I think she'd be a better fit at EPCOT. Frontierland would feel too much like stereotypical "Cowboys and Indians" and Pocahontas lived about 200 years before the Old West period.
