Why, oh why did someone not tell me. . .

Well, I was tired of my blonde highlights. I had a lot of them. In dark, dark brown hair, it can be uhm, striking to have a lot of blonde. I originally had a few chunks, that's it. Then when I went in for a touchup Miss Chrissy went all crazy with that blue sticky paste.

Fast forward 7 weeks. It's no longer summer. Loads of blonde highlights no longer seem appropriate, yet I am loathe to go have Chrissy color again and cut so close to Disney, as I want to pull my hair back. So, I go to the old standby. Feria. Walmart aisle.

Result? Almost all of my hair is the original color. With one exception. I have the tiny amount of blonde highlights I wanted in my hair originally. Apparently they aren't going anywhere. :rotfl:

Why couldn't someone tell me 7 weeks ago to do this 5 weeks ago? Why have I been stuck with hair I hated for the past 7 weeks when I could have easily fixed it myself? :lmao:

lol -- I was given this advice a few years ago the first time I highlighted my hair and ended up with these bright blonde streaks.... but I used Preference & got the same result you did -- it was a relief, lol

:lmao:

In the immortal words (word, really) of my grandmother: "Well...."

Glad you like the result, sorry it took you so long to get it. :)

And enjoy your trip! :cool1:

You are actually very lucky. My BFF wanted her bleached blonde hair back to her original brown. She went to the hairdresser. She came out with hair the color of bright GREEN JELLO! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

I took her in to the color experts at Vidal Sassoon. Apparently, you can't always go from brown to blonde to brown again in one easy step. They had to color her hair red first, to combat the green that would appear, then, brown.

YEP, darn lucky. Brown has a green base. The color brown comes from some yellow, more red, and lots of blue...that means, the blonde hair and blue base...GREEN!
I did this when I wanted to wear a hair piece of curls for my Prom, I hate to admit how many decades ago...I was a hairstyling student and new the blonde would grab green but thought, I will use a temp Loving care color...
Well the blonde streaks and highlights grabbed the green and held on.

i woould make sure to have a red tint on hand, like a shampoo for red heads just in case ou get green.....
On the color wheel the color directly across to complement green is red, so it will tone the green....

for blonds in the summer that chlorine gets the blond hair green, use some aleo rid shampoo.

If the hair turns brassy gold, tone it down with a shampoo for blondes that is BLUE tinted...it will wash out the red/brass look.

Hope it stays the way you like.

and remember if you see the word "ash" in the color name such as light ash brown...it is going to be loaded with green and if your hair doesn't have a lot of natural red...watch out.

I have lots of natural red in my brown hair and always go with the warm browns, never use an ash.

I have no idea what a lot of the people are talking about with the green tints and blue tints and the ash..uh....:scared1:

But as for the OP, I have the exact same experience as you! I had a ton of highlights through summer 2007 and I just couldn't get around to scheduling an appointment to get rid of them. Like you, I grabbed a Feria kit and I loved it! At the time, I did a dark blonde, but I loved the results so much I never did my highlights this year. Currently, I am doing Feria 91 and I LOVE it! My hair is naturally very dark brown (think Belle's hair) so how it doesn't turn out green I have no idea. But it works!! And I do have some of those even lighter hightlights peaking through for dimension. LOVE IT! People think I pay a lot for my hair..nope, just $9.49 and 30 minutes in the bathroom! :dance3:

Green! Ack! I would have passed out. There is a red tint in my hair right now that I did not notice last night, so maybe that's why is did not turn green.

It was a LOT of blonde. I mean, I'm talking, bleach my eyebrows because the coloring was all off blonde.

DH likes it now. I know I'll have to have a trim before I go to the World, but I think I'll get my neighbor, who is a cosmetologist (just doesn't do it anymore except for family) come over and trim my hair.

Which color did you use? I had the same problem. Just over time my hair was getting blonder and blonder because each time I had a touch up, well you know.

I used a medium golden brown. LOVE the color everywhere but on my blonde highlights. It was super reddish. Luckily it was wash out so while it's not gone it's lighter and I am going to go over it soon with a light ash brown to hopefully tone down the red!!

Glad you finally got it how you want it! And I hope it lasts!!

Like others have said, you got pretty lucky!

I used a medium brown. But I see more red today with the blonde highlights?!? I'm not complaining. I don't have to bleach my eyebrows anymore (they are really thick) and I look more like myself.
