I don't see why so many people here poo-poo the idea of free dining for DVC stays.
First, I paid the full freight price for DVC. I didn't have a code, I didn't get an annual pass rate, and DVC was not running a sale on points. You could say I paid "rack rate" for my DVC stays.
And what have you spent this fiscal year compared to someone booking a room at the Poly
Agreed, but that is what we bought. And the thing is is that the DVC rooms aren't just cheaper than the Deluxe rooms - a studio at OKW is cheaper than a Value room.Second, I don't think all DVC rooms are quite as deluxe as the regular deluxe resort rooms, so the argument that we getting deluxe stays for cheap doesn't hold much water with me.
Many of the DVC rooms are truly deluxe quality (not all resorts), but none of them get the same TLC (housekeeping, maintenance, and proper refurbishments) as the deluxe regular resorts.
Agree again, but again, that is what they bought.
The big issue is that those huge checks we wrote Disney are "so last fiscal year" or longer in terms of profit. Disney's job is to create an attractive balance sheet quarter after quarter. If Disney can get a balance sheet improvement out of giving DVC free dining, we'll get it. But the only way I can see that is going to happen is if we get a "buy more points and get free dining" promotion. Or maybe a "refer a friend and if they purchase, get free dining" promotion. But they aren't going to hand us hundreds of dollars worth of food because we were stupid enough to pay full price upfront for something that isn't Deluxe and doesn't even come with cleaning.
