Why not cap crowds every day?

silly advice of, "go during a rainy November day, take your kids out of school, and get up at 5:45 a.m. and you'll love it!" That's pathetic. We can do better than this!

I was going to stay out of this but this is silly. I have a handicapped daughter, so we go when crowdes are low. There are alot of times you can go without rain, taking the kids out of school and getting up at 5:45am - actually some people enjoy this, we don't and never do it. Our favorite time is after thanksgiving and before christmas. Always had low crowdes, good weather and a wonderful time.

I thought I read one of your post that said you had a toddler. It seem that you could go almost anytime. If you really want to enjoy it do some homework - you would if you were going on other vacations. We do because of our requirements and never had a bad vacation yet - ANYWHERE philly, florida, texas, ect. There are alot of places that have the same problem as Disney, you just need to do your homework. Find a good time for your family and I bet you will have a better time - you might even become a fan.

BTW - we are talking southern california - not Washington, lots of beautiful days all year long!

Sorry, Radopt, but one need not do"homework" when going to Disneyland. You just go and have fun. Disney is a place without homework. That's why kids love it! It should be pure fun. You say you go, "when crowds are low". In my plan, that would be every day! You would pay for an experience in which you walk around relatively uncongested walkways, wait 5-10 minutes for rides, small food lines. Now, I don't know if that number is 15,000 or 30,00 per day, but I know darn well it's not 75,000!

The more I read, the more I am convinced that it is, indeed, AP tickets that have caused the mess. These folks clog up the place by showing up once a week and as others point out, don't eat in the park, stay in hotels, or buy souveneers. They get in free basically. A "season's pass" may be a good idea for the local swimming pool but not for a major attraction like Disney.

As a local I can tell you that we do eat in the park, shop and occasionally stay in one of the DL hotels. Our "free" trip to DL this last weekend cost close to $500. I think we did our part this weekend for DL's bottom line.

LOL, got2gp! This is us, too! We have AP's and go several times a year (not weekly). We always eat at the parks or DD. We generally stay at the hotels (even though we are less than an hour away), usually GC, and well, the nieces always need something from Disneyland! Trust me, as locals we do our part for the Disney economy, even if we get a break on the admission price with our AP's. I'm sure that Disney has figured that out! That is why they offer APs.

Add me in as another AP holder that always eats in the park, at one of the hotels, or at DTD (not worth it to go elsewhere, both time and money-wise) and buys lots of souvenirs (I don't want to see my cc bill from the 5th). I'm a local, so, no, I don't stay in a hotel (though I would if I could afford it once in a while).

And as an AP holder, I rarely go w/o doing a little homework. I at least go check park hours and show schedules before going and have an idea of what I want to do each time.

Amen to that em! That $500, actually closer to $600 now that I think about it, was one night at the GC, breakfast, lunch at the BB, snacks and the required shopping, and that doesn't count dinner in DD or the movie. we went to on Saturday nite in DD.

Really AP holders spend plenty of money in the parks. If selling AP's were not profitable they wouldn't do it. Disney takes stats on park spending habits all the time. I have taken a survey on my last four visits and that is exactly what they wanted to know (did I eat onsite, buy stuff, have an AP, stay onsite or in an area hotel, visit frequency, length of visit, and where we went).

My favorite days to visit DL are the day of minor earthquakes in the area, or the day after bigger ones. Scares all the out of towners off. Disney is great about doing very quick inspections and reopening things fast (they send out a huge team of engineers, so it is inspected).

Tmartin is absolutely right! Are we paying (according to many who buy meals, souvenirs etc... aka, the disney experience) a lot of money for the priviledge of rubbing elbows with strangers next to us? DL should, and I am not claiming I know how, lower crowd capacity so that more people can enjoy a more pleasurable experience. After reading all the posts I am shocked that so many people defend DL's reasons for increasing crowd size while continuing to make record profits at the expense of the people. It seems to me that more people should put on their glasses and look at the real picture here. Maybe everyone has stocks in the company???

Disneyland is only going to cap attendance according to safety reasons.

If they are going to cap attendance, they may as well restrict the number of wheelchairs, strollers, groups of teens, small children, tall people, etc., that may inconvenience other guests.

I'd like it if they could limit the number of rude, intolerant guests who think the world revolves around them, that how much they paid to be there makes their wait time more important than mine. Every time I hear "I paid a lot of money for..." I want to smack someone. I want to say "Good for you pal, so did everyone else. Shut up and sit down."

That would make my day at Disneyland a more enjoyable one.

At what conclusion did I arrive? My post was extremely non-conclusive. In fact, I would characterize it as speculative. Which, as you surely know, is a far cry from conclusive.

I absolutely do not know tmartin, but I merely support his ideas on the subject. I had no idea when I posted my opinion that I reopened a dormant thread. I only happened upon this tread because the topic was related to my own original concern: crowd control.

I just took a quick glance at Monzie C's 4 posts and they were polite and reasonable. While I can understand the speculation, I believe Monica was just a victim of opening an old thread that some of us (at least me) were happy to see fade away. But now that it's back, let me just say:

Another local here, and I wanted to add that Disney offers 4 levels of annual passes 2 of them specifically aimed for Southern California Residents, with different blackout date terms, with the lowest price pass being with the most blackout dates, now most of my friends also have passports and to be honest I don't know a single person with one above the SoCal pass and I don't know too many people who go weekly, although they would be well within their rights to.

I would say just be happy that DL hasn't gone the way of Six Flags, Universal, and Sea World with the buy a day ticket come back the rest of the year free with only only a few if any blackout days.

Now as someone who goes a handful of times a year, we always eat in the parks including a character breakfast for my daughters birthday, and to leave either park with a 4 year old sans souvenirs is next to impossible. We definitely contribute $$$ wise.

Also for someone to say they should be able to go without any homework is being a little absurd. You should always know the park hours and be aware of any special events. If you are interested in parades and fireworks know their times also. Using the same comparison of Disneyland v.Hawaii as a vacation spot, would you go to Hawaii without some sort of itinerary, I would imagine not especially since there is so much more to do than Waikiki Beach

After all is said and done, there are some who don't have a magical experience and thats fine Disney is not for everyone.

You know, I've done some thinking on this and maybe Disney SHOULD set a ridiculously low attendance cap, and just charge folks $300 a day for admission. And I think the same rules could be applied elsewhere too...

For instance, I find airplanes way too crowded. All those people! And they're rude, and pushy, not nice and polite they way they were in the old days. I think they should get rid of cattle class altogether, take out 1/2 the seats and make the whole thing first class. That would be nice and comfy. Sure everyone else would be willing to pay $1000 for the airplane ticket that previously cost them $200, right? And if they can't afford to pay it, when then obviously they shouldn't be vacationing at all.
