Why no Cars Land??

What Disney should do is simply pay Universal the ransom money to allow it to use whatever Universal is not currently using. They probably could never get Spiderman or the Hulk. But the use of some characters on a poster? Disney should pay to get them back. Seems silly to have Iron Man and Thor meet-and-greets in every Disney theme park except WDW.

I'm pretty sure disney and universal both don't want to do this. Universal likes having the rights to the characters and disney makes money from them having the characters. In order to get them back is would cost 100s of millions if not billions to do so. Then universal would have a bunch of rides without a theme, spiderman would have to be demolished or completely redone and I'm sure they would expect Disney to pay for this that's why it would cost billions. Much better for both sides to stay the way it is.

A CM told me that Cars Land is coming to DHS, so take that for what it's worth.

Someone mentioned rain, and that's a good point. RSR in California is constantly breaking down, even when it doesn't rain. The ride is also known to be allergic to rain.

Personally, I would prefer lots of new stuff at DHS. People come from all over the world to visit Cars Land at DLR (I know, I talked to some of them). Keep it unique.

CMs know as much as we do. Rain is one of the factors, RSR is one of those rides that has a very large outdoor presence. Florida gets rain practically every day California goes weeks without it.

Because the marvel themed rides they have are popular. Yes they cannot expand. If Disney pays for the rights universal is going to have to get rid of their marvel stuff they aren't going to be allowed to keep it. You're not going to go to universal to see marvel stuff and then Disney to see similar marvel stuff that's not good for marketing. DHS is going to get reworked with Pixar and Star Wars. Disney didn't own Star Wars at the time of they built star tours but they had a great relationship with George Lucas. Lucas wasn't going to sell his business to anyone else. If Disney guys the rights from universal, universal has to retheme their marvel stuff that's going to cost millions and find something to theme it to if not demolish it and build something new. Universal is going to expect money from Disney for those costs. I don't expect this to happen at least in my life time.

We just disagree on this point. Disney could reacquire the rights but allow US to keep what it has in terms of rides. Nothing needs to be scrapped before its time. Eventually, all of the Marvel stuff in US is going to get sunsetted just like Jaws was and replaced by stuff that US owns and can actively promote. As far as Disney not wanting to have something similar to what US has, well, all I can say is...did you see what movie marathon the Disney-owned ABC Family station played at Christmas? As it stands right now, neither park will ever have an Avengers attraction, a Captain America attraction, a Thor attraction or an Iron Man attraction. Given the value of these franchises, that makes no sense whatsoever. Somehow, some day, that ice is going to melt. And $$$ is the catalyst.

I kind of agree with you just think it will happen a little differently. Because universal can't expand, they will eventually do something different with the marvel areas they have. I just think this is years down the line maybe 20 years from now. Yes the marvel stuff will go the way of jaws it's just a while before that happens. Only one Disney park in the world currently has a planned marvel attraction and that's the iron man experience in Hong Kong which opens in 2016. I think Star Wars is the main focus of Disney right now after that marvel will probably be back on the table.

Agree 100%. However, when one looks at the gap in time between the purchase of the SW rights and the ribbon cutting of the SW expansion at DHS, it would behoove Disney to get to work on the Marvel negotiations now. Otherwise, Iron Man will have a good bit of rust on him by the time the mind-blowing attraction debuts!

Marvel has big movies coming out into 2019 all announced. With the two part third avengers movie. I don't think marvel will be brought back into the equation till at least then.

It's part of the master plan, but the only thing that's actually been signed off on is Phase I. Not clear what all will be included in the January announcement, but the expansion across World Drive is not part of Phase I.

That has been part of an expansion pad for years this is the first I've heard of it being SoA.

Ok that makes more sense. Most credible sources as of late have said it will be a Pixar expansion that will likely include a cars presence but not an entire Carsland.

I've read the contract a number of times and although I am not a lawyer I have never seen anything in it that would indicate that Universal can't expand the Marvel presence if they wanted to.

I think that (and I could be wrong) the PP meant US can't expand the roster of Marvel Characters in the park.

The contract might give them the rights to the characters they had at the time, in the comicbook designs of the era...but as I understand it (and I'm also not a lawyer) they can't use any characters that weren't in the original agreement, or use any of the newer looks to the characters they do have.

So I don't think they can build a new ride themed after a character not in the original contract.

And considering the rumored rule handed down at Marvel regarding the restrictions placed on writers of the Xmen titles about no new characters, no cross-overs that could expand the Xmen character roster for Fox movies...I think Disney will be quick to stop any Universal parks attempt to grow the Marvel presence beyond it's current roster.

I think Cars Land is lovely! But, it is a better fit at DCA. It is a western themed land and would look and feel weird in Florida. I agree that some attractions should not be carried over to the opposite coast.
