Why is Tarzan gone?

Does anyone know why the "Tarzan Rocks" show was removed from AK? I loved it and I was so sad.

It is being replaced with a Nemo attraction. Personally I didn't like the show, though many others did.

The auditorium was extremely hot & muggy and just didn't appeal to our family. I am personally looking forward to the Nemo experience.

I liked the Tarzan show once, but never had the need to see it again. I'm sorry that it's gone for the people that did like it, though. I didn't really like Finding Nemo, so I don't think the new attraction will be any more tempting to me.

Ever see CMs outside "Tarzan Rocks" trying to "coax" guests into seeing a "FREE SHOW... starts in a few minutes"?

Yes.
--------------------------
Ever see CMs outside "Festival of the Lion King" trying to do that?

Nope.

Both shows had their fans and detractors.

FotLK has FAR more fans and is still going strong.
TR, not so much... and it closed.

Most of the shows come and go. We enjoyed Tarzan, as we really love the Phil Collins music, but we like Finding Nemo too so we look forward to that show. The one we miss the most is the Hunchback show, that one was incredible! Now that Disney has Tarzan on Broadway maybe folks that REALLY miss the MGM show can catch that! BTW, they are closing in the theatre for Nemo so it will be cooler when it re-opens!

If by "closing in" you mean,
"KNOCKING THE WHOLE THING TO THE GROUND, BULLDOZING THE AREA, AND STARTING-FROM-SCRATCH WITH A BRAND NEW FULLY-ENCLOSED STATE-OF-THE-ART LIVE-ACTION THEATER", then yes, that's what they are doing. :goodvibes

The "Festival of the Lion King" theater (it was originally Open-Air) was simply "enclosed and air-conditioned" and its now much better... but the Tarzan Rocks theater... is GONE!

(And the new "Finding Nemo, the Musical" theater is going up fast.) :thumbsup2

Everybody seems to be talking about Festival of the Lion King in past tense. Is that gone, too?

No, but its "old" THEATER was upgraded and enclosed.

(Re-read my edited post, above.)

I would think it would not be before Oct, but hopefully I'm wrong!

They closed Tarzan Rocks! because guests reactions and attendance basically said the show is pretty lame. Which it was. The lead singer had a terrible voice and the only cool thing about it was the skating...plus it makes no sense to be in Dinoland... however, neither does Nemo. Nemo makes no sense at ALL in DAK....but that's a whole other story all together.

Phew! My last trip we ended up at Festival of the LK by accident (walking by and cast members encouraged us to jump it at the last minute). We were amazed, so now my sister and I want our mom and aunt (just us four on the next trip) to see it, too.

"stunk"? "lame"? "terrible"? you guys are pretty mean. I would never criticize something that someone else really liked.

I didn't ask why you THINK the show was closed. I asked if you KNEW why the show was closed. I wasn't really interested in opinions, and those are all matters of opinion.

Um, actually, they closed the show because most patrons thought it stunk, was lame, or terrible, sorry, and expressed such opinions to Disney by either saying so or not returning to repeat performances on subsequent trips. That's not an opinion, that is the REASON. It was not liked by most people.

*waves* I've seen people being called to Lion King to fill the theater! :sunny: But it was ultra-slow times of the year for the last show of the day. *chuckles*

3 professional singers, 4 piece band, 5-6 stunt skaters, 4 arialists, 2 "high ropes" arialists, and 8-10 broadway-quality dancers. Plus backup artists. It seems like it would have been a very expensive show to produce. Combined with what seems like relatively low guest satisfaction ratings and i think you know why Disney closed it.

just opened on Broadway. Don't think they wanted anyone to confuse the 2!

I think they closed it because it was not well accepted by a large population of visitors, and its reputation was making attendance drop. I was fortunate to be ushered in late (persuaded by a CM), and was able to escape quickly.

I agree with PuckheadBill that it was probably an expensive show to produce.

Having seen it, I really wouldn't call it lame or stinky, maybe a little cheesey...but I think a lot of Disney stuff can be cheesey...maybe the right word is corny...but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable ( and the Tarzan score was one of the best of the recent films IMHO... :confused3 No, it wasn't the tour de force that Lion King is but I thought it was a cute show... popcorn::

In fact right now I have a soon to be four year old son who has "discovered" Tarzan and would have loved it...I'm surprised there is no real Tarzan presence in AK? Other than Lion King, there aren't many Disney films that are such a perfect match for the Animal KIngdom Park..

Anyhow the TARZAN on Broadway has garnered pretty good reviews and we're hoping to catch it next year...

(Saw Mary Poppns in London last March and it was fabulous :teeth: !)
