Why is Peter Pan "always first"? (silly question?)

Nope, which is one of the reasons the line gets very long, very quickly.

As far as I know there are no FP rides in Fantasyland at DL so I try to do them all first thing in the morning.

We always do them later at night- after dark a lot of the people with littles leave and we find that the crowds thin. Of course, this trip we'll have a little for the first time in ages, so we may have to rethink that...

Not sure when some of these people have been to DW, but every time I go, Peter Pan always has a super long stand by line, except for first thing in the morning, just like DL. It usually is over 60 mins. And I always go during off season. Lines in general are longer at DW. I always got this impression, and now I check my wait times apps everyday for DW and DL (can you say obsessed?) and it is definitely true. Of course there is always an exception.

I agree. FP has little to do with it. I think the real culprit is the differences in the parks themselves. In CA, there are a multitude of rides, but in HS there are far fewer. If I'm not mistaken, I think TSMM was the only ride my almost-3-yr-old could ride at HS last year...

My DH and I just had a conversation that ended up going the exact same way you are thinking. We also took our then 2.5 yo DS to HS last year and Toy Story was one of three things he rode. The other two were Backlot Tour and Great Movie Ride, and he didn't particularly care for either ride, whereas TSMM was a tried and true favorite that didn't involve guns, explosions, fire, and giant aliens.

The other thing to bear in mind when trying to compare WDW and DLR is that Peter Pan loads differently on the two coasts. In WDW it is an omnimover system and loads much more efficiently and quickly than in DL where the ride starts and stops for each loading/unloading boat. While it is a pretty simple and short procedure for each boat, over time it has to add up. Thus, the ride capacity is smaller and less people are cycled through each hour, making for longer standby times regardless of the FP effect.

I agree. We just came back from WDW 2 weeks ago, and the stand-by for Peter Pan was 80 minutes except at park opening ... and the fastpass line was 20 min. minimum.

I've only been to DL once, but I've never seen the same lines at that park to WDW on any ride. :confused3

ages ago on this board I said that the Dangermouse Family mantra when entering Disneyland is "Peter Pan First. Peter Pan ALWAYS first!" I think it stuck. ;)

This is the correct answer. :hippie:

DM clued me in when i came to the left side of the board & posed my first DLR question: "Why not Dumbo first?"

....."PP first...ALWAYS first" !!!

:)

A few thoughts from me on this one.

Yes: PP always first. Unless I'm there multiple days and I only care about riding it on days 1 and 3. Then I usually go to Matterhorn and then (lines are pretty well on their way to unpleasant at this point) Mr. Toad. Then I shoot over to BTMRR.

I always hold on to the hope that people with very young children will leave towards park closing time (even when it closes at midnight) and the PP lines will be short. I've never seen that happen. At 11:45 there are parents in a 30-minute line with kids that should have been in bed hours prior. Not a criticism, BTW. I presume the kids may insist or, perhaps, it's the family's one and only trip to DL and PP is a must-ride. I understand.

DL Paris *does* have a PP FP :-). However, of the four Disney parks I've been to (Anaheim. Orlando, Tokyo and Paris), Paris is by far my least favorite.

Cheers,

Rob

Has anyone every thought about riding right after fireworks?

One time we were on the left entrance of the castle, from frontierland, and fantasyland was still closed. The CM told us it was close till the fire marshall cleared it and 15min they let us in and we went straight to Peter Pan with no wait!

We have done PP last. If you are in line at the time the park closes - they let you ride. We have done PP this way multiple times (we have also used that strategy for Dumbo, Space Mtn and Nemo).

The time we did Dumbo - we were on the last ride of the night. We stopped to take pictures afterwards and we ended up being the last family in Fantasyland. It was a special feeling (it was Christmas time with all the pretty lights).

Yes! I have done this multiple times and it was wonderful! Only other time to get in a ride at Peter Pan without a 30+ min line. :thumbsup2

However, you should line up by the Mad Tea Party. After the area is cleared, they will lead the line to Peter Pan before opening up the rest of Fantasyland. This has been the case for me the past 3 trips.

I have always liked riding this ride in the evening. I don't mind waiting 30-40 minutes, it's fun to watch the evil queen from Snow white looking out the window every once in a while.. it also makes going into the "flying over the city" scene among the stars more lifelike :p

I completely understand the concept of riding PP first, but what about Nemo? How do you get on Nemo at all if you're not racing there first thing in the morning? Doesn't it regularly have 2 hour+ waits?

I don't know about others but I did Nemo after finishing with FL on one of the MMs, our wait was only 15 minutes.

The past couple of times we went Oct and Feb. We went to early entry day and did things in this order with very little or no wait
Peter Pan
Mr. Toad.
Alice in Wonderland
Matterhorn
Nemo (10-15 minute wait by this time)

It works much of the time on non early entry as well

We skipped Nemo entirely on our trip in 2008 as the waits were insane and we didn't feel the wait would be worthwhile for our two young children--we figured they would rather spend their time riding rides rather than waiting in line.

In 2010 we just wandered by Nemo every now and then and finally got in line when the sign said the wait was 20 minutes long. Most of the time the wait was around 30-45 minutes long. Now that we've been on Nemo once, we don't really feel the need to ride it again. It was a LONG ride and we, quite honestly, didn't enjoy it.

We did the same... if you are going in summer season there are fireworks every day, we were at the front of the castle and we got talking to the CMs behind the rope and they made sure we were first in so we could walk up into the castle and a lit up FL with no one in it, for just a few seconds we felt special... Its another way to ride nemo with only a short wait too... We headed over to Nemo about 5 min before the fireworks ended and had only a 5 minute wait, it was back up to 20 minutes again by the time we got out...

I like the MM schedule posted, but we're going to be there in July, so I expect insane crowds. I like the idea of doing Nemo during the fireworks, though. Would a parade be just as good?

Guess it depends on your definition of insane. We were there last July and were pleasantly surprised at the crowd level.

A parade would not likely be as good but during fireworks and/or Fantasmic the wait time should go down a lot.
